"So now, we're going into the dream of a cat to find Shiller..." Batman said.
Constantine nodded his head, then after a moment of thought, said: "First, we have to go to the Kingdom of Dreams, find where the dream god stores dreams, then find a cat's dreamscape in there. Only then can we enter the Thousand Cats Dream through a single cat's dream."
The plan sounded reasonable, so they set off right away. Although Shiller's Tower of Thought was gone, the hole in the ground was still there, so they went down into it and arrived in the Kingdom of Dreams, absent of the dream god.
Looking at the environment, it was a place filled with birds chirping and flowers blossoming, not at all as dangerous as Constantine had led them to believe. But soon, they realized why Constantine had been so cautious.
Dreamworld is a place where anything strange would not be out of place, for any creature's dreams are bizarre and peculiar. Therefore, this meant that there were many entities here that surpassed ordinary human comprehension, and they were all dangerous.
Barely having landed, they encountered a colorful tentacle monster that seemed like spilled paint. The first to get attacked was Batman, who smoothly rolled away from the continuously changing shapes and colors of the tentacles. The magical brilliance in Constantine's hand flared up, and with a vigorous thrust, the tentacles were severed by his light blade.
Clark shot up into the air and mowed a path with his heat vision, making the creatures that were in its way scatter in panic.
Constantine relaxed his stance and clapped Batman on the shoulder, saying: "I told you, with him here, we're a lot safer."
Batman didn't say anything, just followed the path that Clark opened up. Along the way, they encountered groups of strange ostriches with sharp beaks, flying discs with over a dozen legs, walking palm trees, and other similarly strange creatures.
The majority of these creatures loved chasing people but would scatter and flee after being attacked. Maybe it was because of Superman's impressive show of force—after all, every creature, no matter where it's from, has the instinct to pursue benefit and avoid harm.
After dealing with those nuisances, they finally arrived at the place where dreams were stored. Here, it was a starlit sky, countless bubbles floating in space, like stars.
Constantine used a mysterious method that none of them could understand to examine the content of these dreams. Suddenly, his gaze stopped on one of the bubbles.
The others couldn't tell what was different about this specific bubble, but Constantine reached out his hand and lightly touched it. In an instant, they were all sucked into it.
They arrived on a beautiful prairie. If you ignored the giant mice in the distance and the flying fish in the sky, this place seemed peaceful. Clark surveyed this space and said: "This must be a cat's dream, there are mice, fish, and a vast prairie."
"In theory, every cat's dream should be connected to the Thousand Cats Dream. That is to say, we should be in the same dream space as Shiller now. However, pinpointing his specific location might be a bit tricky. Where could he be?"
Constantine turned his head, glanced around, apparently pondering on how to find Shiller in this space.
Just then, Batman, seemingly following some instinct, started walking in a certain direction. The others approached with confusion intending to stop him, but Batman said: "I can feel it; this way is towards Gotham."
"What's your basis for this?" a doubtful Clark asked. "How could Gotham possibly exist in a dream world? Moreover, this is a cat's dream."
Victor stopped Clark who was trying to obstruct Batman, then said to him: "Shiller often says one thing - things that don't belong to Gotham will eventually leave, but some people, they belong to Gotham. They'll end up going to Gotham, no matter where they are."
As they watched Batman's figure move forward, Victor sighed and shook his head, then followed his pace. Clark felt confused, but the approaching Constantine tapped his shoulder then followed, leaving Clark no choice but to follow them as well.
After what felt like an eternity, they finally crossed the huge prairie and several small towns, arrived at a river, then crossed an ocean.
In a dream, distance is not an obstacle, and there's no sense of fatigue, not even any perception of the passage of time. They walked and walked until finally, they arrived at a coastline.
Across from the coastline was a huge city, which under the moonlight looked dark and terrifying. Nobody had to say its name out loud; all of them thought of the same word in their heads. It was as if all cities like this should be called Gotham.
Batman stood on a reef by the coastline; his cape flapping in the wind. Just as he was about to utter some profound lines, Clark, hovering in the sky, descended and said: "What's happening? Why are there only cats in the city?"
The somber atmosphere around Batman immediately dissipated. He looked at Clark, who covered his slip up: "I couldn't have seen it wrong; my vision is excellent. The entire city ahead is filled with cats."
"Indeed, a cats' dreamworld ruled by cats should be filled with cats. The problem now is that in the Thousand Cats Dream, humans are likely still servants. If we just walk in there like this, we might…"
