In the end, the ones who really taught Peter how to drive were Matt and his girlfriend, Erica.
Matt's severe injuries last time had led him and Erica to resolve their differences and reconcile.
Of course, after escaping the brainwashing of the Hand Union, Erica realized that she had acted impulsively. Peter was feeling guilty for trying to protect Matt, and she felt somewhat sorry for hurting him. Therefore, when she learnt about Peter's recent unsuccessful driving lessons from Matt, she and Matt willingly undertook the task of helping Peter with his driving.
Unquestionably, Erica was more reliable than the others, and while she was also a ninja assassin, she was quite patient when it came to teaching.
One day, as Peter was trying his hand at driving, Erica and Matt were seated inside chatting about Kingpin.
"One day, I'll definitely make him pay!" Asserted Peter, "He dared to use such despicable methods against you."
"Don't be hasty, my dealings with Kingpin are complicated. Besides, he's the most infamous mob boss in America. You are not ready to take him on yet."
"What about that guy, Bullseye? I remember he's still in Hell's Kitchen right? I'll give him a beating tonight." Peter declared.
Erica said, "The situation now is not very good. After learning about the Dragon bone, Kingpin didn't immediately target Hand Union. It seems like they reached some agreement. Worst of all, Kingpin might have hired Hand Union."
"That doesn't make sense. Hand Union cares so much about the Dragon bone. If they found out that Kingpin also wants it, they will eventually turn against him. Doesn't Kingpin know this?"
"That's what's so bad. Even though Kingpin knows Hand Union won't truly cooperate with him and certainly won't hand over the Dragon bone, he still hires them. It means there must be something we don't know, something that is making Kingpin willing to risk rebellion from Hand Union just to hire them."
"Has he made any big deals recently?"
Erica said seriously: "If I have to say, you probably know about it, his drug business."
"You mean that plan he abandoned earlier?"
"What are you guys talking about?" Peter asked, controlling the steering wheel. He didn't understand the 'code' Erica and Matt were discussing. At this point, Little Spider hadn't encountered Kingpin yet; it was Daredevil Matt who was primarily combating Kingpin.
"Kingpin's drug business on the East Coast has reached a bottleneck. He has taken over most of the market but he's not satisfied."
"I received intelligence earlier that Kingpin wants to target younger students. Using his connections in colleges and high schools, he plans to sell addictive drugs to younger kids. This way, someday, he can break his historical sales record."
Enraged, Peter hammered the steering wheel and cursed lowly. Then he said, "Since I wanted to be a superhero, there have been those constantly pushing the boundaries of my perception. Why have they lost all humanity?"
"In the future, you will see even more of these monsters." Matt replied.
The calmness of his tone gave Peter a sense of power.
The car was moving off the main road onto a street and it was getting late. Peter planned to return Matt's car first and continue his lessons the next day.
However, as they just turned, a beam of strong light shone at them. Peter instinctively put his hand up to shield his eyes. His Spider-sense was triggered and he immediately opened the car door and jumped out.
With a "bang", several darts pierced the windshield and hit the driver and passenger seats.
When Peter looked up, he saw several shadows jumping down from nearby buildings and approaching the car amidst a cloud of black smoke in a few flashes.
After some time training, Peter was no longer the rookie he used to be. He first rolled on the ground to avoid a volley of darts and then jumped forcefully to knock a ninja off the roof of the car.
His strength was overwhelming and the ninja turned into a cloud of smoke, disappearing instantly.
Then, another ninja yanked the car door open, but the car was empty. A dagger flashed brightly as Erica's figure appeared at the side of the car. She took out a ninja first, then flicked her wrist, and another salvo of darts scared off the second one.
Matt wasn't in the car either. His senses far exceeded those of ordinary people and he had detected the incoming darts while they were still in flight. He eliminated the ninja at the back of the car and came over with his stick, saying, "These guys are really bothersome. Last time we only got one and now they all ran off again."
Peter shook his tingling wrist and said: "What's going on? Have they been attacking you recently?"
"Erica and I had to move because we kept getting harassed by these fleas at the old house."
Peter said: "I am sorry, I've been a bit busy lately and haven't visited you guys. If I knew you were in trouble, I would have come around."
"You'd better not. These people can't be dealt with by brute force alone. Even Erica and I have to lay traps to take down one of them. In a spontaneous fight, they just disappear."
"It's difficult for you guys to handle the Ninja's escape techniques. You need to use special escape techniques to counter them." Erica, clutching a dagger, stepped back into the car.
"Are we still going to drive? What if they come again?"
"Didn't you notice? They're not here to kill us, they just want to harass us."
Peter also got in the car, this time Erica was driving. Peter asked: "What are they achieving by doing this? They can't hurt you anyway…"
"Although we are not afraid of them, my neighbors aren't necessarily the same. They know that to protect ordinary people, I often have to move homes. This significantly disrupts my efforts to combat their activities."
Following Matt's words, Erica added: "This a common tactic of the Hand Union, whoever contests them, they send these undying Ninjas, ceaselessly harassing them until they withdraw completely from the area."
"These ninjas are not very strong, they rarely kill people, and they appear and disappear without a trace, leaving no evidence. Therefore, there aren't many reasons for local authorities to confront them."
"This is where Kingpin excels. He uses these Ninjas from the Hand Union to harass me, temporarily preventing me from interfering with his enterprise upgrades. He knows that even if he kills me outright, he can't accomplish it quickly and will only invite heavy retaliation. But this type of incessant harassment, similar to swarms of flies, can drastically slow me down."
As Erica turns the steering wheel, she says: "Perhaps this is one of the reasons he chose to cooperate with the Hand Union. Your previous actions have cost him a great deal. Even if Bullseye almost succeeded, you reappeared soon after, and even more swiftly brought down his underground casinos."
"He now knows that hiring assassins to kill you and frequently failing is less effective than employing continuous harassment."
Matt sighed. He also felt helpless in the face of the current situation.
These ninjas are troublesome. They can lower their heartbeats, making it hard for Matt to detect their exact location immediately. Occasionally bursting into his house, either throwing darts or starting fires, causing chaos. The landlord wouldn't care if Matt was being harassed, they would only evict the tenant.
As a lawyer, Matt previously had a decent apartment in the Manhattan area he could live in. His little place in Hell's Kitchen was just a base, but the annoying ninja invasions meant he had to keep moving, which truly drained his energy.
Daredevil Matt only has 24 hours in a day, he originally sacrificed sleep time to fight crime. But now, during the day he needed to draft complaints, attend court sessions, spend nights moving and organizing his things. He only had a small window in the late-night to patrol the streets, not only was the efficiency greatly reduced, his energy also dwindled.
Kingpin discovered Daredevil's weakness: Matt was also a member of society. When faced with such trouble, to maintain his social status he inevitably had to dedicate a huge amount of time.
Erica herself had a heap of troublesome matters, the Hand Union would ruthlessly go after traitors. Plus, having been away for such a while, Kingpin had grown suspicious and Bullseye constantly sought opportunities to kill her and reclaim his rank.
Peter said: "Although I can't help you fight these ninjas, at least I can first go after the prime target."
"You need to be careful." Erica said, "Bullseye isn't your average person. He's a master acrobat, highly skilled and full of tricks."
"That's perfect, I haven't faced a worthy opponent yet."
"Didn't the wealthy Stark make you a battlesuit? To deal with Bullseye, it would be best if you wore it at all times. He is proficient with hidden weapons, but if his weapons can't penetrate your suit, it would be much easier to handle him."
"The battlesuit is still under testing, I received a call from Mr. Stark yesterday, asking me to visit the building, it will probably be completed within a few days."
As they spoke, the car arrived near Matt's residence. They got out of the car, Matt said: "You better think this through, the moment you make a move on Bullseye, you will inevitably enter Kingpin's sights."
"The struggle against Kingpin is a real life-and-death battle, not something that can be compared with beating up a few robbers or thieves in Hell's Kitchen."
"He will use every cruel method you can imagine, and those you can't, to kill you. He could become your lifelong nightmare, no matter where you go, you would have to be vigilant against his assassinations, just like me."
Peter stood on the other side of the car looking at Matt, the street lights have gone off. The feeble reflection of the indoor lights from the apartment windows barely lit the car window glass.
Peter asked him: "So, do you regret it? When you were lying in the operating room, did you regret your involvement in all this?"
"If I were not involved in all this, I would probably be in my high-end apartment in the city center right now, preparing for a trial the next day. Perhaps, I would be discussing engagement with my girlfriend, or maybe contemplating whether to get a dog…"
Erica chimed in: "But now you're like a pariah. Forget about getting a dog, even if you had a tropical fish, its carcass would appear outside your bedroom door the next day."
"When I chose to get involved in all this, I didn't even give it a second thought. What do you think? That I pondered for a year before taking action?"
"In reality, filled with hatred and passion, I plunged headlong into this bottomless abyss." Matt said.
"Although I really want you to become a superhero, because with your abilities you can save many people, which is why I was willing to teach you."
"But I will not deceive you, I must remind you, opposing Kingpin means you can never turn back."
"You must be both righteous and powerful. If you lack either, you will only face death."
