Right in front of the gate of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, Polaris is dragging an unwilling Quicksilver towards the school door. Quicksilver struggles momentarily, shaking off Polaris's grip on his arm, and stands at the school gate saying, "Stop dragging me in, I can't stand the sight of that annoying Scott!"
"Isn't he your brother?"
"Quicksilver is your brother too, don't you dislike him?"
"Fair enough, but you have to go in with me." Polaris turns to Quicksilver and says.
Quicksilver begrudgingly tugs at his hair, saying, "Lorna, what's gotten into you? Just a few days ago you were complaining about how boring classes are, and now you want to go back to this school?"
Polaris looks at Quicksilver with a serious tone, "Didn't you hear Professor X? Those new mutants who are almost a decade younger than us actually brought back an alien spacecraft!"
She sighs, "It feels like we have known each other for a while now, but in a blink of an eye, a few years have passed. We are not children anymore, you, me, Iceman as well as Rogue and Shadow Cat, we are no longer the newest generation of mutants."
"So?"
Polaris tilts her head down, her face solemn. Quicksilver also sighs, and says, "Lorna, I know you have always seen yourself as the leader of the new mutants, the most powerful among us…"
"Even if you didn't say it, I can feel it. The identity of Magneto's daughter puts immense pressure on you, and you've always felt capable of being responsible for the future of the mutants."
"But looking at the current situation, the mutants are no longer my concern." Polaris kicks a pebble under her feet, looking down. The next second, she stands erect again, hands on hips, takes a deep breath, and says, "Let's go, Alexander, we can't let them outpace us. We'll go to class now."
Having said that, she drags Quicksilver toward the school door. Quicksilver is still processing what she said, and before he can react, he is pulled inside. But as soon as they enter, they bump into Colossus walking out. Colossus is taken aback by their presence, asking, "What are you two doing here?"
"Can't you tell? We're here to study." Polaris replies.
Faced with her response, Colossus is even more perplexed. He eyes Polaris up and down, focusing particularly on her green hair, smoky makeup, and lip piercing, saying, "…I really couldn't tell."
Polaris tucks her green hair behind her ear, saying, "Don't mind that, doesn't this place recruit students? Alexander and I want to sign up."
Colossus is easygoing, he doesn't make remarks about the Brotherhood not being allowed in.
He, Polaris, and Quicksilver should all be considered part of the new mutants. Although he is slightly older than them, he prefers the normal life, hence he does not hang out often with the mutant youngsters.
He scratches his head and says, "I know Charles teaches you in your dreams, but in reality… forget it, you can ask him when you go inside. Just remember not to use your powers recklessly, there are little children in the school, and you must…"
"Alright, alright, I get it." Polaris waves her hand in dismissal, pulling Quicksilver with her as she strides inside. After they leave, Colossus takes out his phone and calls Charles to explain the situation.
So, Polaris and Quicksilver receive a warm welcome in Charles's office.
When it comes to recruiting students for Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, Charles has endless grievances. School admissions are not as simple as establishing a website and issuing announcements.
All the teachers in the school, in addition to their teaching duties, also have another significant task. They have to scour the world for oppressed mutant children, assist them with their current problems, persuade their parents, modify the memories of ordinary humans affected by mutants, and only then can they guide them to the school.
Several famous new mutants came to the school this way. But the one who puts in the most effort is indisputably Charles. Just handling the troubles caused by the little mutants means he works year-round without a break.
And so far, no mutant has ever come to the door on their own wanting to study. Even Angel, whose family is extremely wealthy and whose mutant ability is harmless, was only sent to school after his father contacted Charles.
Seeing Polaris and Quicksilver who came on their own, Charles is truly moved to the point of tears. What does this represent? This represents that a new era has arrived for Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.
What makes Charles even more delighted is that Polaris is Magneto's daughter, his beloved younger daughter. Though Magneto is reticent with his emotions, Charles knows that he holds high hopes for Polaris to succeed him. After all, from their abilities to their characters, they are practically identical.
If the new generation of mutants could all become classmates, unite and work together, then many things would become much easier.
For instance, the mutants have a stake in Project Radiance. But when Charles negotiates with the representatives of ordinary humans, he always lacks confidence, because the mutants are now split in two. He can only represent half of the mutants.
