The power of Scarlet clashed with Magic Power, enveloping the entire sky in red and purple radiance.
The young people who had just dealt with the trouble caused by the animals in the streets received a call from Shiller and quickly headed toward a specific address.
Circe was unwilling to give up her arrangements in Gotham because of her arrogance, believing that with the power of witchcraft, she could freely control others to solve her problems.
But Edgar was not a very brave person and had not witnessed any major events; he realized things were out of control when he saw so many massive animals appear, so he took advantage of the Witch's trip to the Gotham Police Department to cause trouble and swiftly began to pack his things, planning to slip away.
But obviously, he was not smart enough, or to put it more accurately, too greedy.
Circe had always been an outsider, barely living within human society; she could cause chaos and then simply dust off her behind and walk away.
But Edgar wasn't as strong as her; he still had to work and live his life. Being wanted by the Gotham Police Department was one thing, but during the days he made trouble in Gotham, he already knew that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and an organization called the Federation Shield were active in the city.
Just being wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation was enough for him to take; it meant that he would become a fugitive, constantly hiding and never again having a day of peace, essentially social death.
So he thought, now that everyone's firepower was focused on Circe, he could slip away to Williams and Bob, modify the memories of all those in the know, and push everything onto the Witch, so that he wouldn't lose his social identity.
It was from William's and Bob's memories that Shiller learned how foolish and greedy Edgar was, which is why he used the two of them as bait to fish for Edgar, the foolish fish.
Shiller already knew the location of William's safe house, so as soon as the Witch left, he immediately had Andre take people to carry away William and Bob, who had been turned into pigs.
Edgar seemed to have a way of tracking Circe; he might have even read the minds of some passersby. Either way, he followed the trail to William's safe house that Circe had once visited.
At the same time, the New Warriors Team and the Guardians of the Galaxy had arrived.
Shiller had already told them that the guy they were tracking now was one of the perpetrators of the child abuse case. The two groups didn't bother with pleasantries when they saw Edgar; they went straight up to him and pummeled him thoroughly.
They had learned in advance from Shiller that Edgar had the Mind Reading Technique, but also knew that his mind reading and Mind Control were limited—he couldn't control others without physical contact. So, they subdued Edgar from a distance first, and only then did they brutally beat him up.
However, because of Shiller's instructions, they didn't kill him; after capturing him, they took him to the backyard of the Schiller's house.
Shiller and Amanda were waiting there.
Shiller was trying to adapt to drinking water from a teacup with a snake's body, while Amanda, bored out of her mind, gazed at the horizon where the evening sky shone with a brilliant intermingling of red and purple light.
"You should try coming out too," Shiller said while drinking water.
"Easy for you to say," Amanda snorted back disdainfully, saying, "It wasn't your family that was wiped out; of course, you can say such light-hearted words."
"What if I told you the same tragedy had once befallen me?"
"Is that why you're mentally disturbed?"
"Why do you keep fixating on who's mentally disturbed?" Shiller said helplessly, "Real psychopaths don't become deranged because of any particular event, nor can they be changed or convinced to admit their wrongs."
"Right, because they are sufficiently evil and shameless," Amanda paused before adding, "I've never heard you mention your family; are they still alive?"
"If you are talking about blood relatives, I don't know who they are; if you mean the family I chose for myself, they are in a very distant part of the cosmos, too far for me to return. So don't even think about it."
Unfazed by having her assumptions exposed, Amanda took a sip of her tea and said, "Perhaps many people in this world have suffered tragedies like mine. There are plenty in Gotham. But you must allow us to have different views on the matter and to take different approaches, rather than thinking everyone should just let go."
"I don't think so; you're the one thinking that way. I'm just telling you, you're thinking that way. I'm just voicing certain things you don't want to confront," Shiller said.
"If you know I don't want to face it, then don't speak of it! You deserve what's happened to you!"
"Are you referring to me being turned into a Black Snake? Do you have something against black skin? A zealot convert?"
Amanda raised her teacup, intending to splash it over Shiller's head, but fortunately, at that moment, Star Lord came in through the back door, carrying Edgar, who was tied up like a dumpling.
Amanda set down her teacup, took Edgar from Star Lord's hands, stood at the door, and turned to Shiller to say, "I'll find a way to deal with those plant conservationists. That girl might be able to make public appearances in the future, but she must promise not to use her superpowers for evil; otherwise, I will still arrest her."
"I will convey the message to Pamela. In fact, promoting her is also in your best interest. You don't always want to use those criminals, do you?"
