Sensing a threat, Jason reacted instinctively, arresting the entire team of the Guardians of the Galaxy when Quill came back to discuss disaster relief strategies with him.
Rocket, wise and worldly, and Venom, resident in both Iron Man and Batman, instantly recognized this as an excellent opportunity.
The Guardians of the Galaxy hence escaped from prison.
But the escaped Guardians did not immediately flee in a spaceship as planned by Quill. Instead, Rocket and Venom suggested they hide among the ordinary citizens.
Quill was initially resistant, but Rocket pointed out that amidst the instability on the Sparta Star, many people were caught in disasters and unable to help themselves. If they simply escaped, Jason would prioritize altering his successor in the Galactic Congress instead of focusing on relief – leading to even higher casualties.
With a soft heart, Quill couldn't bear to see so many lives vanish even if they were not human. So, heeding Rocket's advice, he hid amongst the residents instead of making a break for the spaceship.
The citizens of the capital, who were the first to receive assistance through Quill's organization, were grateful to the Prince and willing to provide him shelter. Upon hearing Quill chose to stay for their sake, news of his noble deed started spreading across the planet.
The ensuing search squad by Jason only fuelled the growing fire of rebellion, showing people that he could command an army but chooses to use it to hunt down their saviours rather than save them.
Jason, who had spent his entire life in the royal family, did not understand the common people of the Sparta Star, making him oblivious to their struggles.
Quill, however, who had suffered hardships due to Jason's abandonment, could fully understand the plight of the people. He was still struggling to pay off his student loans, owed several hundred dollars to Lisa, his former boss who had always been kind to him, and had been evicted for being unable to pay rent.
The Guardians helped rebuild the homes of the families they were staying with, gradually gathering a band of Sparta Star people who outnumbered Jason's search party, all while evading Jason's pursuit.
As Rocket Raccoon anticipated, Jason did not immediately engage in relief work after they escaped. Instead, he hastily went to the Galactic Congress, disavowed any dealings with the human race and declared a new successor. He also strived to strengthen relations between the nations in the Galactic Congress and tried to gain favor from the Three Great Empires by exploiting the disaster.
There are people who obsess over social connections, foolishly believing that having many friends and acquaintances will guarantee them societal importance and failing to understand the importance of personal capabilities.
Maybe the Sparta Star does not really have anything substantial to offer. They are just an ordinary civilization in the Milky Way, with no unique resources or talent. Otherwise, they would have advanced beyond the Milky Way a long time ago.
Thus, the so-called Galactic Congress is just a group of ordinary civilizations sticking together for warmth, foolishly hoping to rise to greatness someday with the Three Great Empires watching over them.
But in reality, the Three Great Empires have observer organizations in each star system for the sole purpose of preventing civilizations in their exploratory phase from causing trouble and damaging the empires' important equipment. They also need local cannon fodder in case a war breaks out.
However, the leaders of these local civilizations consider their instructions as law, thinking that flattery would eventually yield rewards.
After the Galactic Council Headquarters was destroyed, several civilizations jointly made a request to the Three Great Empires to punish the human race. Jason was the most aggressive of them all, believing that if he could secure the support of powerful allies, his power and position would be unshakeable.
The diplomats of the Three Great Empires could not help but laugh at this request. It was like sheep asking a wolf to punish a tiger – a situation aptly described by a popular interstellar saying: "the spaceship starts up, and three kilos of water is splashed from the brain".
While Jason was away, the Sparta Star people rallying behind the Guardians of the Galaxy had reached a critical point.
Quill finally realized that there were many issues with the planet his father ruled. Advanced as their technology might be compared to the human race, it was no guarantee of a superior social system.
Putting aside Prince Gars' legacy of trouble, Jason himself was not clean. In an attempt to balance power, he divided his departments and dispersed power, leading to the rise of many factions. This resulted in poor communication between the central government and local authorities, with some people doing as they pleased and others being oppressed.
While the Sparta Star didn't have a death penalty, it had exile – essentially sentencing offenders to remote planets to mine. Quill was shocked to find that nearly every low-income family on the capital star had at least one relative who had been exiled. The decision to exile was often made arbitrarily by those in power.
For Quill, this elicited a sense of responsibility. He had never been willing to identify as a Sparta Star citizen or to succeed to the throne, but that was because he did not wish to be a ruler.
But now, he felt obligated to become their savior. His refusal to rule would only allow others to make things worse.
At the same time, the people of Sparta Star were weary of Jason, an incompetent ruler who was power-hungry, relied heavily on external forces, and was overly self-righteous and arrogant. He was a disaster for any nation.
It wasn't that Peter Quill was especially good, but rather Jason Spartacus was particularly terrible.
Hence, in the wake of the disaster, on the twentieth day, the people of Sparta Star achieved consensus and crowned Peter Quill as the new king.
When Jason returned, he wasn't greeted by a calming situation or a captured Guardians of the Galaxy, but by his own gallows.
Ultimately, Jason Spartacus was overthrown, losing his kingship, becoming the unremarkable felon known as Mr. Knife in the Interstellar Society, just as it happened in the comics.
