Chapter 287 - Chapter 186: Street Lights and Gods (Part 1)_1

The thoughts and actions of most people in the human race are regulated and logical. What a person thinks about and how they react is largely dependent on the circumstances they currently face.

It isn't strange for Strange to have such a daring idea. At this moment, he is a successful, wealthy man. Not just wealthy, but extremely wealthy.

In the few months before he came into contact with The Ancient One, his everyday life involved interacting with the wealthiest and most powerful people in the world.

His involvement with magic was not due to frustration forcing him to seek help from it, rather it was more like an invitation from The Ancient One to learn about magic, similar to an invite to an academic conference in a new field.

Therefore, at this time, Strange held no reverence for magic. His viewpoint was similar to Stark's, that magic is simply another form of energy that can be used, and what magic is largely depends on how one uses it.

Shiller helped him eliminate other options, allowing him to reject Wong's ideologies about inner peace and self-cultivation. He realized, that sometimes, solving problems with brute force, despite being crude, is very effective.

Under such circumstances, Strange inevitably started to think, trying to find a simpler, yet more effective way than the arduous studies at Kamar-Taj.

This kind of thinking is inevitable for those who have been through the human science education system, with the ultimate goal of all experimentation being to improve efficiency and accelerate production.

It's not strange that he turned to Stark, despite their slight misunderstandings in the past, their current mutual interests would lead to a much greater shared interest concerning magic.

Stark sat behind the operating table, resting his elbow on the desktop, he pinched his temple and said, "Granted, this is just an idea for now and there are many necessary conditions for execution that are lacking."

He waved his hand and continued, "You walked in here, showed me a bit of what your magic is, and suddenly we're targeting those powerful aliens."

"Let me tell you, brother, if you were not looking for me, for the genius of Stark, anyone else would have kicked you out thinking you were insane."

"The human race hasn't even built a spaceship yet, and now we're considering borrowing money from aliens. This is kind of crazy."

Strange sat on the other side of the operating table, folding his arms, he said, "This idea is indeed very bold, but it's not entirely impossible, it just takes time."

"It needs a lot of time," Stark said to Strange, "Currently, I haven't got a grasp of magic while you...all you are right now is a magic apprentice, you're yet to use magic properly."

"We do need to consider this as a long-term plan, also, have I reminded you that you can't casually reveal magic to others? So this plan cannot be told to many people."

"Don't worry, even if it isn't because of magic, I would still prevent certain people from knowing about your outrageous plan. I can promise they'd never stop talking about it, like that old stick in the mud who always insists on calling me uncle, that silly kid swinging around in the sky, and..."

Strange interjected, "Who this plan should be kept from, I don't know, however..."

He then looked at Stark, who also understood and said, "...you definitely know who this plan can't be kept from."

Inside the S.H.I.E.L.D. office, the bulb hanging from the ceiling spluttered, shining inconsistently. Below it, sat four people around a square table.

Nick and Shiller shared a look. Nick asked, "So, you guys plan on robbing aliens?"

"Speak elegantly," Stark denied, "in essence, it's borrowing. Borrow. Understand?"

"Okay..." Nick began to speak but seemed to have too much to say and couldn't get the words out.

After a pause, he laid his hand on the table, gesturing for them to calm down, "I've understood everything you guys said, that there exist in the cosmos a bunch of creatures wielding magical energy. Normal people call them aliens, mages call them cosmic sorcerers."

"They can lend their powers to the human race to help us harness magic, so the essence of magic is the power of the cosmic sorcerer."

"Now your plan is to borrow some power to arm yourselves, and then refuse to repay the debt to borrow more power."

"Before we get into whether it's technically feasible..."

Nick was about to continue when Stark interrupted him, "I know it's kind of unscrupulous, but it was his idea."

Stark pointed towards Strange, having no trouble blaming his teammate. Strange was stunned and then glared at him.

Nick was also stumped, "Unscrupulous? What's so unscrupulous about it?"

Nick and Shiller looked puzzled at Stark and Strange, who looked at each other. Then Stark said, "Alright, we shouldn't overestimate you two's moral standards."

Nick seemed taken aback, "So the first issue you two thought of after dismissing the technicalities, was a moral issue? This is quite surprising."

"But what I was going to talk about wasn't the moral issue, it was one of logic."
