Adam, an irate white supremacist, had had enough and sought out a hitman named Eugene who had no relationship with the Hydra, the KGB, or S.H.I.E.L.D. Eugene's intention of assassinating Nick Fury was purely due to his belief that all high-ranking non-white individuals should go straight to hell.
Eugene was determined and motivated in targeting Nick, but he was somewhat inadequate. Compared to other mercenaries, he was less competent, and was in no way prepared for the chaotic situation in New York.
However, Adam gave him a very detailed strategy, and Eugene obediently and successfully infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D following these instructions.
Unfortunately for Eugene, Nick was gathering young superheroes to caution them. Among these heroes was Spider-Man, possessing Spider-sense. Before Eugene could pull the trigger, Spider-Man disarmed him.
This incident gave Nick quite the shock. He certainly didn't expect someone to break through S.H.I.E.L.D.'s heavy defenses and storm into his office. This wasn't part of his plan.
He immediately took defensive measures, instructing the superheroes in New York to stick around and investigate who had the power to send an assassin right to him.
Just when Adam thought he had corrected a timeline, he realized that Nick's new superhero roster to battle the Destroying Worms had changed to individuals not based in New York. The main team consisted of Captain America, Iron Man, Night Devil, and Venom...
Adam was gasping for air.
He glanced over again and saw Captain America and Iron Man shooting a documentary in Hollywood under Eddie's organization. He quickly rushed to Hollywood to stop the superheroes, who had closer connections to Shiller, from heading to the battlefield.
Upon arriving in Hollywood, he received good news and bad news. The good news was that news of the Destroying Worms' invasion hadn't reached there yet, but the bad news was that the Spider-Men were enthusiastically planning to instigate Peter to propose to Gwen.
According to Shiller's plan, this was not right. Shouldn't Peter and Gwen get engaged first to attract the Spider-Men from the Multiverse and then open the channel to the Antimatter Universe?
If the Guardians of the Galaxy push the Destroying Worms back first, but Peter and Gwen are already engaged, how would Shiller attract the people to watch the superheroes fight in this universe? Would they remarry?
Hence, preventing Peter and Gwen's engagement was urgent. Adam decided that he must first stop the Spider-Men from instigating Peter's and Gwen's engagement.
To disrupt the plan, the simplest way was to sabotage it from within, by controlling a Spider-Man to destroy the ceremony they had prepared.
However, controlling Spider-Man was not as simple as manipulating ordinary people with whispers in their ear. Spider-Man would neither believe nor do evil through this method.
Therefore, Adam decided to directly control Spider-Man's body. His chosen target was Miles Morales, whose behavior was more diverse and noticeably different from the other Parkers.
Among the Spider Legion, Spider-Men who are not Peter Parker are the minority. Even if they behave oddly, Peter Parker would not be too suspicious.
Adam's choice was spot on. He successfully infiltrated the Spider-Men group, controlling Miles, but after just a few hours, he realized he was failing miserably.
The cause of the problem was Los Angeles' sudden downpour, making the temperature plummet. Unable to stand on the rooftop looking cool, the Spider-Men hid under drainage holes.
Despite their extraordinary physical abilities, the Spider-Men could feel cold. Standing in the cold underground water tunnel all day, Gwen suggested they go to a nearby café for some hot drinks, and wait there till the rain stopped.
Most of the Spider-Men agreed with the idea, and Adam, controlling Miles to blend in, volunteered to buy a big load of hot coffee from the nearby cafe.
Up until now, everything was going as expected. The Spider-Men were all standing in the water tunnel, watching the storm outside, and drinking hot coffee. They were occasionally cracking jokes, making the whole atmosphere very cozy.
Adam, being preoccupied and not joining in the Spider-Men's conversation, finished his beverage first as he was concentrating on his coffee.
Realizing that his cup was empty, Adam instinctively crumpled the cup and tossed it behind him. Suddenly, the dimly lit tunnel was illuminated by the glowing eyes of a dozen Spider-Men.
Adam's hand was trembling. He saw the Spider-Men staring at him with their glowing eyes, and he confusedly asked, "Wh...what's wrong?"
Gwen, standing at the front, slowly narrowed her compound eyes. She put her hands on her hips and said to Adam, "Hey, bud, did you just throw your cup..."
The Spider-Man standing closest to where Adam threw the cup let out a horrifying shriek. "Oh my God, he really threw the empty cup on the ground and not in the trash bin. This isn't an illusion!"
Suddenly, the sharp intake of breaths in the tunnel was louder than the rain outside, and the exclamations overpowered the sound of the wind.
"You actually threw your used cup on the ground and not in the trash bin, and you didn't even sort your trash?! You are definitely not a Spider-Man!! Tell us who you are!"
"Jesus! How could you do something like this? I've never seen Spider-Man commit such a heinous act! You owe us an explanation!"
The Amazing Spider-Man gestured and shouted, "Spider-Man would never do such a thing. Miles must be under some type of control. Attack him!"
Before Adam's agape mouth could utter a sound, he was totally engulfed by a dozen Spider-Men who pounced on him. He was forced to escape from the other end of the water channel, running wildly through the city of Los Angeles in the heavy rain.
A group of Spider-Men closely chased after Adam. Both cold and furious, Adam finally couldn't bear it anymore. He stopped on the top of a building, shouting at the Spider-Men pursuing him.
"Are you sick or something? Did I not just throw a cup?!"
"You're not Spider-Man, who are you?!"
"I...listen, you kids, I'm trying to save our universe. You can't interfere with this anymore, otherwise our universe will be destroyed!"
"But you threw your cup on the ground. It's littering, extremely unfriendly to the environment. You're destroying the world!"
Adam was maddened to the point of rolling his eyes. He realized there was no hope for the Spider-Man to turn the tables. Thus, he simply escaped, leaving an unconscious Miles on the floor.
The Amazing Spider-Man rushed forward to hold Miles and solemnly said to Gwen Spider-Man, "Something is really controlling him. Did you see it? The fleeting purple light."
"Who is he?" Gwen Spiderman frowned. As she pondered, her phone rang. She picked it up and checked the Spider App straight away, her face turned pale.
"The S.H.I.E.L.D Director was assassinated! An unknown assassin bypassed layers of security and broke into his office. The opponent is formidable. Nick Fury issued a mission for all Spider-Men to defend New York!"
Immediately, heated discussions erupted among the Spider-Men. They all knew that at this point, it was more important to protect the S.H.I.E.L.D Director. Their main discussion was about who would have the audacity to march straight to Nick Fury and how all Spider-Men were directed to retreat back to New York, considering the urgent mission assignment.
On the way back, the Amazing Spiderman said in a low tone: "I'm afraid we're in big trouble. As far as I know, there are few enemies in this universe that Nick Fury takes seriously. This assassin must have caught Nick off guard."
Soon, the Amazing Spider-Man led a team of Spider-Men into the meeting room of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick's face was punishly dark. Upon seeing the Spider-Men, he spoke.
"Now, the S.H.I.E.L.D base is not as undefended as it appears on the surface. Since we partnered with Time Management Bureau, all our security cameras have been replaced with timeline detection devices. Meaning, as long as the person remains within the timeline, it's impossible to evade the security system's monitoring."
"Furthermore, the monitoring and warning system sponsored by Stark Group has reached nanoscale detection. Any physical entity cannot pass through the monitoring without triggering any alarm."
"Could it be that someone has hacked into..."
Jarvis sitting opposite the Amazing Spider-Man shook his head. The Amazing Spider-Man took a deep breath and sat at the table feeling somewhat worried, looking at Nick: "Does a person who can simultaneously evade the timeline monitoring device and Stark Group's monitoring system really exist?"
"Forget about humans; even a demon god should not exist," Nick tapped the table and said, "It's not a matter of difficulty, it's simply impossible."
The Amazing Spider-Man conveyed the matter of Miles being controlled. Nick contemplated a moment and finally said, "Notify all departments that S.H.I.E.L.D is on high alert. We will recall all S.H.I.E.L.D agents across New York State for defense."
"All other superheroes outside New York should not return. Instead, investigate suspicious incidents locally. If their target is either me or S.H.I.E.L.D, then we will stall them. Others are responsible for the investigation."
"Oh, my God, Peter and Gwen from this universe haven't come back yet. They might not even know about this," said the Amazing Spider-Man.
"Briefly inform them of what happened, but make sure you tell them not to return to New York. If all these Spider-Men can't hold the line, several more won't make a difference. Better to carry on with the deep investigation and expose the enemy first."
Adam had no idea that his repeated attempts to correct the world had brought tremendous shock to the superheroes of New York.
In recent years, Shiller has been in charge of software, Stark of hardware, and Strange supplemented with mystical technology, making all important bases in New York impregnable. Even if they couldn't stop the enemy, they would definitely be able to find out who it was, even if it was the Eternal.
However, Adam, being a higher-level life form, felt it rather inconvenient to inhabit human bodies. He didn't realize that his very existence superseded what carbon-based organisms could observe. This, in turn, brought panic to them.
Under his actions, the originally peaceful New York immediately entered a state of alert. For the first time, the new generation of young superheroes who have not encountered any worthy opponents upon their debut sensed what "a storm is brewing" truly meant.
