"Here it comes again!"
"Who is it this time?!!"
"Damn it, is this ever gonna end!!"
Several figures were frantically running in the street. Riley looked back at the army of monsters behind them. The woman leading the group had red hair and was holding a walkie-talkie. The one in uniform was up in a helicopter, shooting arrows with a bow.
Natasha and Barton, nice going. Even S.H.I.E.L.D couldn't escape, thought Riley, gritting his teeth. Moreover, they had advanced equipment, and they actually had the brains to operate this equipment.
"This is not working!" Xu Shang-Chi yelled at him, "Our stamina is going to be drained, we're out of bullets, we need to get rid of them first!"
"They have planes and bombs." The Rocket Raccoon, held by Quill, roared, "Separate some people to hold them off, and then the rest of us run!"
"That's not a good idea." Quill quickly covered Rocket Raccoon's mouth and said, "They've noticed our abnormality, noticed we can't be infected by madness, they won't let any of us go. In terms of dividing forces, they have the advantage over us."
The sound of explosions "Boom, boom, boom" came from behind, Quill had to cover his mouth and nose to prevent choking on the dust. Riley turned back and yelled, "You're right, we can't stop moving at high speed, they have snipers."
Xu Shang-Chi gritted his teeth, feeling that his depleted energy couldn't support running at such a high speed. He took a deep breath and looked at Riley, "Buy me 30 seconds, I can get everyone out of here."
"What are you planning to do?"
"Set up a formation to trap them, but it takes time."
"Quill, you and Jessica guard the right wing, I'll guard the left!"
They didn't have more time to hesitate, because everyone knew that they couldn't keep running like this. When they stopped, they noticed that they were right because the monsters following them had formed a large army.
Superheroes with tentacles growing out of their heads, agents with tumors around their waists, policemen mutated into bugs from the waist down, piloting planes, in police cars, aiming guns, and screaming crazily, the chaos resembled the real end of the world.
They should have thought about it earlier, the absence of psychic attacks didn't mean that there were no dangers. The biggest threat in this world was that there were too many of them.
After the superheroes had mutated, besides going crazy, they retained a certain degree of intelligence. The agents and police were the same. This enabled them to use modern weapons. So, the situation they were facing was no better than being hunted down by the whole world and being chased by the entire New York.
What was more disturbing was that the Scarlet Witch, who had massive attacking measures, was not present now, and Jarvis was missing. The remaining few people had no way to deal with the massive modern weapons. Their only choice was to keep dodging.
The monsters were constantly rushing up, Riley, Jessica, and Quill were doing their best to hold off all the monsters and buy Xu Shang-Chi some time. Natasha, her eyes glowing red, hanging from the helicopter ladder, yelled with a sharp voice:
"Don't resist anymore, embrace the truth of the cosmos!"
"The truth of the cosmos is that you're a damn bitch!" Quill roared furiously as he shook off a monster's tentacle. He spat out curses nonstop, and Rocket Raccoon was even more obscene.
30 seconds felt as long as 30 years. Riley was shot at least three times. Luckily, when he went to the Rocky Mountains for an investigation, he wore a uniform provided by Nick. The uniforms made in Asgard easily guarded against human bullets, but the shrapnel from grenade explosions scraped his calf.
Quill was already concussed, and now there was a bullet lodged in his shoulder muscles, which bothered him even more.
Finally, with a roar from Xu Shang-Chi, several golden lights spread from his feet, covering half the street. Draining the last bit of energy in his body, he stomped his foot and yelled, "Trap!!!"
While the golden light was flowing, all the monsters seemed to pause. But nobody had the time to appreciate the splendid spell. The moment the monsters were trapped, they turned around and ran, escaping from the sight of all the chasers as fast as possible.
"I really should have learned the Divine Teleportation Art." Leaning against the cold wall of the sewer tunnel, Xu Shang-Chi complained, "If I could teleport, I wouldn't have had to work so hard."
Riley was treating Quill's wounds, he shook his head and said, "Stop complaining. What's done is done. We should think about what to do next. We can't possibly take on so many monsters."
"The Supreme Magician really was foresighted." Quill sucked in a breath of cold air and said, "It does make sense for him to destroy that entire world of monsters. How could you guys escape their clutches?"
"Did you hear what they just said?" Rocket Raccoon jumped onto Quill's shoulder and said, "It was that redhead woman yelling at that archery guy about the 'Eternal God of endless reproduction'. That's probably the name of the mastermind."
"I've never heard of this Demon God." Quill shook his head, brushed the broken hair from his forehead back, and said, "But that's a very uncreative name. Most of the Demon Gods are eternal unless they're unfortunate enough to be captured by the Supreme Magician."
"The key is reproduction." Jessica added more wood to the fire and said, "I noticed during the mutation process that many people's bodies began to produce tumors continuously until they swelled up and couldn't move. Then they were smashed into mincemeat by the rampaging superheroes."
