Chapter 1788 - Chapter 1208: Shout of a Lamb (20)_1

In the Federal Bureau of Investigation base in the Metropolitan Area's Laveira County, Amanda stood in the center of her office, speaking with a voice full of anger:

"I can't control all the killers in this world, nor could I be responsible for all the murders! Even if this case occurred within the FBI."

"However, Miss Amanda, you should understand that since your Lamb Project was initiated, the FBI has not experienced any good things. If your plan didn't exist, perhaps this murder case wouldn't have happened within the base."

Across from Amanda, an elderly man in a suit with gray hair adjusted his glasses and said, "You have to understand me, I'm only in charge of the FBI organization in the Metropolitan Area. I was dispatched here only to get your clear response because a few days ago, you rejected my calls."

Amanda turned her head aside, stiffening her neck and said, "My Lamb Project has nothing to do with this case. I have nothing to explain!"

"Amanda, your attitude doesn't help to resolve the matter. I understand that this brutal murder case that occurred at the Laveira County Base may not have a direct connection to your Lamb Project, and you might genuinely be unaware, but the question is, how many people believe there's a connection?"

"This case has put the FBI in the Metropolitan Area in a disgraceful situation, we need someone to take responsibility for it. Would you like that someone to be you?"

Amanda took a deep breath. Her face showed an expression of humiliation, but she quickly pursed her lips, lowered her tone and said, "I apologize, I have been dealing with some matters recently, so I haven't been in the best mood. I will strive to adjust my mindset and give everyone an explanation."

The old man moved forward, patted Amanda's shoulder, and walked past her. Amanda shut her eyes, the muscles around her mouth and neck quivering.

After everyone left, Amanda shook her head vigorously. At this moment, Davis opened the door and said to her, "Amanda, it's time for us to go back."

But Amanda exploded as if a bomb had gone off inside her. She turned and glared at Davis viciously, "What did you call me?"

Davis paused for a moment before saying, "Amanda?"

"You used to call me Ms. Waller! Because I used to be, and still am, your superior! You're belittling me, disrespecting me!"

Davis replied in surprise, "But we've been working together for so long. Isn't calling each other by formal names a bit distant? I wouldn't demand that my subordinates call me by my last name."

But Amanda quickly stepped forward, looking straight into Davis's eyes, and said in a cold tone, "Because you've connected with Wayne, he has bought you out. You took his money, thought you'd have some support, so you don't take me seriously anymore... everyone is like this!"

"Amanda, calm down. It's good news that Wayne wants to take over this mess. Otherwise, we'll have to bear the consequences of the FBI's retribution."

"A mess?!!" Amanda raised her voice and shrieked, "You think my project is a mess? You've been thinking this all along, right?"

"Absolutely not. Otherwise, why would I join the project? Because I also agree with your ideals is why I work under your command. Haven't I been doing a good job for all these years?" Davis was also getting a bit irritable.

"Amanda, what's happened has happened, we can only consider ourselves unlucky. You just happened to be executing your plan of incarcerating serial killers when a brutal murderer struck within the FBI base. Even if others can't provide evidence to link these two incidents, you can't stop them from making the association."

"What Wayne said is right, we currently lack the means to carry out this plan, if he's willing to take over, then we should cooperate. As long as the final outcome is good, isn't that enough?" Davis tried to persuade her.

Amanda clenched her fist tightly. She took a deep breath, as if she made a decision,

She showed a somewhat forced smile to Davis, "I'm sorry, Davis, I lost control just now. You're right, as long as years of my hard work don't go waste, that's good enough. Let's go back."

Without making any other comments, Davis flew back with Amanda to the Florence ADX Supermax Prison in Colorado State. The moment they entered the prison, Amanda told Davis,

"The issue about a detainee from earlier who died from improper imprisonment is also a bit troublesome. I'm afraid the Colorado State Parliament might hold us accountable for it. You might want to go there and inquire if they're planning to."

Davis adjusted his glasses and replied after a moment's thought, "I'm not worried about the Parliament, but I'm afraid some media might have their eyes on this place. Luckily, I know a parliament member who owns a couple of newspapers, I'll schedule a meal with him."

Amanda nodded and said, "Thank you for your hard work."

After Davis left, Amanda clenched her fist again. She paced down the corridor by the office door for half an hour, but eventually still instructed a security staff standing by, "Bring the prisoner from Cell 3 to the interrogation room, I need to interrogate him specially."

"But Miss Amanda, the prisoner in Cell 3 has been marked as the highest danger level. Mr. Wayne forbids anyone to contact him, and even all psychological assessments have been canceled."
