Chapter 1369 - Chapter 931: Deep in the Misty Rain (Part 6)_1

Catwoman couldn't just walk over to Wayne Manor, she had to hitch a ride. But with the current chaos, no driver would let her in, so she planned on finding a car and driving there herself.

She looked around and found an unattended old pickup. Fortunately, Catwoman wasn't picky. She jimmied the car door open and got in.

By pure luck, the car could start and had plenty of fuel. With a push of the pedal, Catwoman began her journey to Wayne Manor.

Catwoman's driving skills weren't exactly top-notch, but they were better than the average Gotham resident's. After all, she often needed to make a quick getaway in a car after her thefts. Practice makes perfect.

But in Gotham's current street conditions, being a good driver wasn't enough. Catwoman had just turned a corner when she saw two trucks trapped in the road. Judging by the blood stains next to the truck doors, the drivers likely went mad from the infection.

Catwoman shook her head - she had no choice but to take a detour. But not long after, she came across another roadblock and had to detour again.

Normally, to get to the South District from the northern part of the East District, she'd just have to drive to the central roundabout and then head south. But with the detour, Catwoman had to make a big loop, head west first, then south, passing through the edge of the West District before reaching the South District.

Gotham was already large in area. Adding the detours, Catwoman almost couldn't keep her eyes open from driving so long. But as she was passing the West District border, she suddenly heard intense gunfire.

In a flash, she became alert. She instinctively turned the steering wheel to the left as the right wheel of her car drove over a sharp object, causing a slight deflation. When Catwoman tried to steer back, she found she had lost control of the wheel.

Through the windscreen, she saw the car engine was smoking. Catwoman cursed but had to accelerate to escape the spray of bullets from the front, or the next round of fire might damage her car.

But, preoccupied with stepping on the accelerator, Catwoman didn't notice what was in front of her.

With a thunderous crash, an old pickup slammed into the iron plate blocking the entrance to the east side of Gotham University. A silhouette jumped out of the car window before the entire car exploded under a barrage of artillery fire.

With a "whoosh", a bullet whizzed by Catwoman's ear. She tried to dodge, but the bullet hit the ground near her foot. Although it missed her, the bullet froze her into an ice statue.

Two students immediately rushed over and carried the ice statue into the school building. Victor took the Freeze Gun from the student, showing no blame for the missed shot.

He didn't even look carefully at whom he'd frozen. Plus, it was dark and foggy - he didn't notice Catwoman's odd attire. Victor waved a hand and said, "Probably another infected driver. Send them all to the sealed warehouse until we find a cure and can defrost them."

Then, he instructed the students on the watchtower, "Keep a close watch on the East Gate at all costs. I can't lose to Anna – I don't want to be laughed at by the mathematics department."

As Victor climbed the watchtower, it was evident that watchtowers had been erected at the East, South, and North Gates of Gotham University, each manned by professors and students equipped with weapons and Freeze Guns.

In just a few short hours, defensive fortifications had been set up around every wall of Gotham University. The gates were heavily guarded. Any student or teacher showing signs of infection was frozen with the Freeze Gun and stored in the warehouse, waiting to be defrosted after a cure is found.

When Catwoman was dropped into the warehouse, she saw that the place was already filled with dozens of ice sculptures, most of them showing signs of madness. Some seemed to have prepared for this fate.

Catwoman couldn't move, but she realized that the ice covering her was not as thick as that of the others. She thought perhaps it was because the Freeze bullet didn't directly hit her, it merely sprayed out when it exploded near her foot. Thus, she wasn't in the epicenter of the freezing mist. This gave her a chance to break free.

Catwoman didn't want to wait frozen. So, she struggled, trying to find a gap between her skin and the ice.

Luckily, she was agile. After a while, she noticed the ice on her upper body seemed thinner, especially around her shoulders.

After struggling for a while, she managed to crack the ice. With continued effort, the ice on her upper body shattered. She bent down to free her legs but found that it was impossible. This ice was not ordinary.

She had to remove the ice enclosing her legs like a pair of shoes. After about ten minutes, she had finally freed herself. Regaining her freedom, she planned to leave immediately but noticed the patrolling students outside by looking through the crack of the warehouse door.

"Oh my god, did they turn this place into a military base?" Catwoman whispered, "Isn't it a bit overkill? Are zombies and plant mutations worth all this fuss?"

"Oh, I got it!" Catwoman exclaimed, "There should be children in that vocational training school, right? No wonder, but is this defence supposed to stop me? Ha…"
