Chapter 1240 - Chapter 836: The Children's Struggle (Part 1)

"Jason, have you heard? Wayne Enterprises has put out word that no one can take over another's house, everyone can only live in their corresponding homes. But I think... it's impossible to achieve."

In the small basement, Six-fingered Sister propped her face with her hand and sighed, "How can we prevent those mobs from taking over our houses? Even if you've taken out some mob bosses recently, there will always be new ones coming."

She looked around and said, "I've heard that a big mafia has taken an interest in the houses here. There have been many unfamiliar faces recently... I think they might be getting ready to settle here..."

Jason was carefully reading a book, he said: "Let them come. No one can take our things."

Six-fingered Sister sighed again: "Jason, you're a bit too reckless. You might be able to kill the bosses of small mobs, but can you also take out the boss of the big mafia… Alright, even if you can handle the big mafia boss, what about the Twelve Families... "

"Haven't you figured it out yet?" Jason looked at Six-fingered Sister and said, "Do you think I managed to kill those small mob bosses all by myself?"

Six-fingered Sister shook her head, "I truly don't know how you persuaded those from the Children's Gang. We had grudges before, but after you talked to them, they are willing to work with us."

"That primadonna, heard that you wanted to take out their neighborhood's boss, was not scared out of his wits, even sent someone to watch out and distract for you, Jason, what magic do you have?"

"Let me ask you... " Jason looked into Six-fingered Sister's eyes, "If you can kill the mob boss and have a house of your own that belongs to you forever, with a bed, a window, being able to grow a potted flower... "

"After a day of work, having a place to shower, then lie on a soft bed, cover yourself with a quilt, and have a good night's sleep, you can live a life like this every day. To have a life like this, you need to kill a man who has a gun. Would you do it?"

Six-fingered Sister's fingers trembled a little, she said, "I dream of living a life like that, such a scene only occurs in my dreams, but if it can really happen, maybe...I… maybe I..."

She incessantly swallowed saliva, saying, "I'm not unwilling to kill, I'm just scared. But if it's like that, I think I will do it... I think anyone would do it..."

Her talking speed getting faster, she said, "They never helped us, never considered us, so we don't need to pity them. They never cared about our lives, they deserve... they deserve to be killed…"

"See, I've persuaded you, haven't I?" Jason chuckled, "I'm not lying to you, I'm just telling you a fact. After all, the construction of the building has started, the foundations are almost done, if we don't take action now, it will be too late."

Jason closed the book he was holding, took out a map from the side, and said, "Look, this is a map of the surrounding landscape I drew. These three streets are the neighborhoods to be redeveloped around us."

"I've also seen the strangers you were talking about. I know which gang they're from. They're from Elizabeth Street, their boss is called Loco, some people call them the Blue Jacket Gang and some people call them the Blue Gang..."

"Tonight, I'm going to take a walk over by Elizabeth Street."

"Are you crazy??!!" Six-fingered Sister raised her voice, "It's enough that you're here, but now you want to take the initiative to go to Elizabeth Street, don't you know what kind of place that is?!"

"Of course, I know. The four mobs there are among the biggest mobs in the East District, two of them even control the docks, but I don't care..."

Jason's eyes were bright, Six-fingered Sister saw a glow in his eyes, she remembered, she only saw this kind of glow in the eyes of a fanatical ascetic. Jason said crazy things in a very calm way, he said:

"I don't care how many people they have, how many guns, how much power, how much money they can earn, I don't care how prestigious their bosses are, they are bound to fail."

"Jason, sometimes I really can't understand your crazy ideas, I don't know where you get your confidence." Six-fingered Sister sighed, glanced at the book Jason had by his hand, and said, "Is it because of the book? Is it because you've read more books than us?"

"Would you like to take a look?" Jason handed her the book, saying, "The vocabulary inside isn't difficult at all, you should be able to understand."

Six-fingered Sister shook her head, "I don't have as much time as you do, I have work to do in the afternoon, otherwise, there won't be anything to eat tomorrow."

"Jason, promise me, don't risk your life. We all depend on you." Six-fingered Sister turned back to climb up the basement door and said.

Jason put the book down again, in this place where no one else was, he said softly, "Don't worry, I will make sure you all have the time to read these books."

At night, Little Sly came to the base of the Tail Gang, he opened a box, took out a suit from it, and gave it to Jason, saying, "Quickly put it on, try if it fits, I just made it."

Jason took the uniform and said, "How are you so quick? Didn't I just tell you a couple of days ago that I wanted a uniform?"

Little Sly chuckled and said, "I knew you were in a hurry to use it, you just didn't say it. Go on, try it on. I think it should fit just right."

Jason took it to his room to change. When he came out, he did not have the hood on, and he was looking down at the uniform he was wearing.

It was a suit of carbon black tights. However, it was not a one-piece, but a two-piece. Because the material was very tight, you could barely see the seams.

The top and bottom both had some lines. Apart from being visually appealing, the suit also had protective features. Little Sly shrugged and said, "It's fire, heat resistant, flexible and elastic. It's not entirely bulletproof, but it can offer some protection. I also added quite a few pockets for you to carry equipment."

"More importantly, the whole outfit does not reflect light, which is suitable for hiding your silhouette. But if you insist on wearing that bright colored hood, you might still be easily spotted."

Jason looked at the arm bands on his arms and said, "It's more than okay. Actually, I wanted a red suit, but that might have been a bit too glaring. Nevermind, black is also good. I like it a lot. Thanks, Little Sly."

"No need to thank me, I just happen to be studying this stuff. But you will likely grow taller, so you might have to change it after a while. When I have fully understood the technology, you can have a cool and practical suit."

Jason nodded, then gave a little smile, "Your timing is really good. I am going out tonight. I'll pay extra attention to the feedback and let you know when I come back."

He uttered while moving towards the exit. Little Sly waved at him, saying, "Stay safe."

Jason glanced back at Little Sly who had turned around. Apparently, his good friend knew what he was up to, but he didn't say anything extra, just silently offered his support.

Upon arriving at Elizabeth Street, the first thing Jason did was to find the leader of the Children's Gang. But it was harder than he expected. The children here were totally oblivious to the impending crisis.

Since the mob that ruled here was rather affluent, the Children's Gang was also quite well-off. They were living quite comfortably and were not inclined to make any changes. Jason's arrival had put them on alert, but they had no intention of cooperating. Instead, they pointed their guns at Jason, forcing him to leave.

After few more days of study, Jason realized that under certain conditions, it is not yet time for some people to rise to a new awareness. If you hold too many illusions at this time, you might easily fall into a cycle of dependence on others. So, Jason wasn't relying on them. He planned to do it himself.

The four mobs on Elizabeth Street were renowned Big Mafia, their defense forces were not comparable to the small street gangs. Just at the entrance of their headquarters, the patrolling men were divided into three shifts, carrying out 24-hour patrols. If he wanted to blend in, he would have to find another way.

Jason took a different path. He scaled another taller building to the roof, then using a rope he prepared earlier, he descended to the rooftop of the Mob's headquarters.

Since this building was relatively tall, the mob probably didn't think someone would approach the rooftop this way. So there was no guard on the roof. When Jason arrived, he descended down a drainpipe until he arrived at a balcony.

His slender figure had an advantage as it made less noise when landing, and it was easy for him to hide at the edge of the balcony, waiting for the right moment to act.

Hidden at the edge of the balcony, Jason heard a rough voice from the window, "I know what Wayne is up to. He wants to pit us against each other, control us, then break us apart so he can completely dominate this city. Does he think we're stupid?"

"I know that he has the means to get everyone into the homes they should be in, and give everyone a room to live in. Of course, Wayne Enterprises have the power to do this, but we can't let him succeed."

"If he is the one dictating who lives where, then who will listen to the mob? Who will listen to me? He is now transforming three streets in the south. In no time, they'll start on us."

"By then, we'll start a war with him or wait for him to build houses and only allocate one for each of us. What would I use such a small one-room apartment for? I need a mansion, a luxury car, and thousands of dollars in rent money!"

"Contact the other three mobs. We must prevent all this. We should have Wayne Enterprises sit down and negotiate with us. We ought to be the ones to decide who gets what. If he is unwilling, he can't set foot here!"

"Don't mention here; even the current construction site, I've made arrangements. There'll be an explosion on the day the construction starts. If he doesn't compromise, he can't even build one building!"

Outside the window, Jason furrowed his brows as he listened in. His hands gripping the balcony railings were tightening. Then he heard the man inside the room continue,

"I've also checked the bomb. If it could kill a few workers, that would be great. Wayne Enterprises would have to pay more compensation, then they'll be more willing to sit down and negotiate with us."
