It was dark. The sky was empty , without life and only just darkness. The two friends stood side by side saying nothing.
"Are you sure about this?" Greg finally spoke. "Even if I wasn't sure, I can't go back. This is my only way to get out from this torture", he said shutting his eyes and opening it again.
Having come out as a successful doctor with a past so dark and deep. His parents wanted him to run the company with his brother. They had always wanted him to be under his brother, to be in their palms and his life right from the day he had the right to be independent had been under their control.
He had been planning this escape right from Adam and couldn't back away now. He was looking for the perfect time to escape and it was now. "Promise you wouldn't tell them", he said not looking at his friend.
Greg hesitated. He couldn't possibly let him go. His friend, Noel was a big shot but nobody knew the life he lived. His father owned Winterwolf corporation and never lagged in his work, he was a very busy man. And his wife, Mrs Winter wasn't just a nobody. Being the only child of her late father was the heiress of a big wine company.
"I just don't agree about this, Noel, it's a dangerous move your making, your father would find you in no time and you'd be punished. I just don't..."
"Greg, promise me you won't be the person to tell them", he said now looking at him in the eyes.
" I won't tell them anything", he said looking away. Noel nodded and hugged him.
Greg shut his eyes and opened them. "If you go there, what are you going to do. How will you survive?" He asked and Noel smiled. "I'd try to survive. I've been planning this escape for years ", he said looking at his nails.
"But you have a degree in medicine, why would you go to a quiet life as if you were a monk or something", he said trying to dissuade his friend, but he knew it was effortless. How could he dissuade someone who had a strong mind and was bent on leaving his luxurious life to a life so decent and quiet.
Noel couldn't stay there any longer. It was a torture to his soul. "I'll start up a clinic there. I heard the only clinic there is miles away from the community", he said like it was a little thing and we'll enough an achievement.
"Can you hear yourself Noel", he said quite annoyed. This man he called his friend wasn't a good boy. He was a total baddie, or maybe he was being deceived because he had a poor eyesight back then.Or maybe he had met the man Jesus whose life was based on humility and selflessness, and who was probably the most humble man on earth.
"I can hear myself perfectly well. I know it's hard to believe but I can't go back home and be treated like a nobody ", he said walking away from him and into his car.
Greg sighed. "You know what? You're an asshole. A big, fat asshole ", he said as Noel started the engine. "what's the name of this community, anyways?" he asked and Noel laughed."Gentle Street ", he said and started driving off.
"I'll see you sometime ", he shouted at him waving and Noel calmed down and shouted back at him.
"Asshole!"
Yeah, alright. He's still the baddie.
Just that he was a different type of baddie.
Greg smiled and whispered."Gentle Street"...
The sky was empty but then the moon it was hiding suddenly appeared.
He was going to Gentle Street... .
