Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: A true lie.

"Always be careful how you answer questions."

Sitting behind a desk in an office of the Los Angeles Police Department, Murphy was still thinking about his lawyer's advice in the earlier phone call, "Be careful of the language traps in the police's words."

When leaving the TV station, Murphy, not surprisingly, met the police, and he took the initiative to agree to be willing to assist the other party, which led him to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The current situation, completely in Murphy's envisioned, come over to assist in the investigation is not panicked at all, not to mention that he made sufficient preparations.

Waiting not long, the door of the room was pushed open from outside, Murphy recognized a man and a woman two detectives walked in, they put down the folder and pen, sat on the opposite side of the table, both of them did not have a good look, like they were ready to interrogate the prisoner in general.

Murphy was calm enough, his lawyer was on his way, and the reporter sent over by Channel 6's Carla Faith to wait for the news was outside the police station.

At the end of the day, he was just a freelance reporter taking down news video, not a criminal breaking the law.

"You've been read your rights before." The male detective was the first to speak, "And you came here voluntarily, correct?"

"That's right." Murphy nodded softly, "Exactly."

"And you know this is going to be videotaped?"

Hearing this, Murphy looked to the camera on the opposite corner and said in a deliberately joking tone, "Of course! I saw that camera, and it's a wide angle shot."

The male detective seemed to be irritated by this and stopped his hand from flipping open the file, shifted to a proper sitting position, and said, "Why were you at Beverly Hills and Moltz's Pizza tonight? And called the police?"

He looked Murphy straight in the eyes, as if trying to see through everything.

"I'm a freelance reporter, and my main places of work are Santa Monica, West Hollywood, and Beverly Hills."

The other man's eyes visibly danced as Murphy stated the basic facts, knowing that to get past the police, the vast majority of what was said would have to be true and able to stand up to scrutiny, "I was out of downtown tonight, the first place I went to was the West Hollywood area, and while waiting for the news in one of the middle class neighborhoods over there, I suddenly realized that in a car on the side of the road, there was a man staring at my side of the road. "

Murphy stated as if stating the facts, "At first, I didn't pay much attention, but after driving around the middle class neighborhood for a while, I noticed that the car and the person were suddenly following me, and I figured something wasn't right and ditched them."

  The two detectives were expressionless.

"Getting ready to leave that neighborhood, I saw the car again from a great distance." Murphy's tone was foursquare, "Curious as to why the other guy was following me, so I followed from a distance and didn't get too far out when that car picked up another person on the outskirts of Beverly Hills, I looked at them a little familiar but couldn't remember where I'd seen them before."

The female detective glanced at the male detective, seeing skepticism like her own in the other's gaze.

"I'm not a very good driver and kept a good distance away from them to avoid detection, and I lost them as they entered Ronald Avenue." Murphy always mixed in a falsehood on top of a mostly truthful statement, "While curious as to why that car was following me earlier, I had a job to do so I was going to give up on pursuing the truth."

He coughed lightly, "What I didn't realize was that I was going straight down Ronald Avenue and saw the car again at the intersection of Seventh Street, and those two men just happened to get out of the car to go into the pizza parlor."

"And you identified them as the murderers?" The male detective asked.

"No, no, I just thought the body shapes were a little similar." Murphy shook his head first, and then added right after, "But when one of them came into the restaurant, I saw the gun under his shirt, and that's when I confirmed it was them!"

The female detective suddenly spoke, "You said before that you didn't get a good look at their faces."

"It's true that I didn't get a good look at their faces," Murphy said as he spread his hands, "It's hard to see in that dark, but I can take note of a person's size and make a judgment based on the size and the way he walks, plus the fact that they're carrying ... guns! "

Murphy shrugged, "As I'm sure you guys know, a lot of people can judge a person by their body shape and gait, so I took out my cell phone and called the police right away."

A bit of sarcasm appeared on the male detective's face, "That's your story?"

"It's the truth!" Murphy said in an undeniable voice, "That's why I took the initiative to come here and react to you about the situation!"

He added, "I figured those two guys probably saw the news video I shot, tracked me down, and then were ready to do something to me."

Murphy sat, honest as a newborn child.

"Wonderful." The male detective didn't hide the sarcasm on his face, "Do you want to know what I think about this?"

"Sure." Murphy said with a nod of his head, "Please say yes."

"I think you're withholding information, I think you saw the two men who committed the crime on Beale Road at the time." The male detective stood up and towered over him, "You also saw the car and then hid it from the public, you did it to get the footage you wanted to film."

He stared at Murphy, "Is that right?"

"Great story, too bad it's not true." Murphy unapologetically locked eyes with the male detective, "I'm a responsible citizen of Los Angeles and I wouldn't do something like that. It's also against my professional ethics."

The male detective leaned in, "You're tantamount to murder!"

"You had a coworker seriously injured, I understand why you feel that way, but it's not true." Murphy was still calm, "I didn't do it, and my ethics won't allow me to do something so wrong."

"Don't you dare try to fool me." The male detective was getting a little emotional.

"I never tried to cheat you." Murphy looked at him, "You know everything I say is true."

"I think your words are lies!" The male detective pressed his hands on the table and leaned over to press Murphy with his aura, "You're a liar who will do anything to get what you want!"

Murphy looked at him without blinking.

The male detective said again, "You filmed these and sold them all!"

"That's what I do for a living as a journalist." Murphy said rightfully, "It's my job, and my job tells me not to ignore news like this, much less let the public miss it, they have a right to know about the news."

"You ..." One of the male detective's hands rose, "We'll make you pay ..."

The female detective hurriedly pulled him back, and the male detective subconsciously glanced at the camera behind him, swallowing back the half-sent words that didn't come out.

Murphy was still sitting very calmly across from them.

The two detectives were not fools and knew that they had encountered a tough opponent, a man with a meticulous mind and a stable state of mind, very difficult to deal with.

Most importantly, they couldn't come up with any evidence to prove that the other person was lying.

In Los Angeles, there were security cameras on many of the main roads, and in the videos and pictures they could access, the black Ford sedan's driving route matched exactly what this guy across the street said.

Fox TV Channel 6 stared intently at the police station, without evidence, they simply can not take too much action, Channel 6 reporters are outside the police station, waiting for them to do some excessive behavior to.

It didn't take long for Murphy's lawyer Robert to arrive at the police station, Murphy as a person who came to assist in the investigation on his own initiative, Robert didn't take much effort to complete the formalities with the police, and by the time the sky was fully lit up, Murphy had already walked out of the police station with his own lawyer, right on cue.

  "Thank you, Robert."

On the parking lot in front of the police station, Murphy shook hands with Robert to say goodbye, "This incident made me realize the importance of professionals like you, as a witness, I almost suffered from unjust treatment by the police."

"I will protest to the police." Robert shook Murphy's hand and reminded, "If there's any more trouble back there, remember to call my number first."

  Murphy nodded lightly, "I will."

In order to avoid the tragedy of his predecessor, it was not for nothing that Murphy, after having a stable income, spared no expense in hiring a little-known lawyer like Robert.

To lead a relatively smooth and decent life in this country, having your own lawyer was essential.

Just after getting into his car, Murphy's handheld phone rang, and without looking at it, he directly picked it up, "Hello, this is Murphy Stanton."

"Murphy, it's me, Carla." A slightly tired female voice was on the other end, "How's it going, did the police give you a hard time?"

"A little." Murphy replied calmly, "But it was all squared away."

Perhaps it was because the videos provided in the last two days had effectively increased the ratings, Carla on the other end of the phone showed a rare show of concern, "Don't let your guard down, especially don't do anything that the police would find sensitive these days."

Murphy nodded, "I know, I can't wait to avoid them now."

So many things happened in the past two days, Murphy is very clear that he must have been on the blacklist of the Los Angeles police, this matter the other party is no evidence, there is not much they can do to take themselves, but if they let them catch the pain, they are bound to settle the new accounts together with the old accounts.

Hang up the phone with Carla, Murphy to the recent events over again, to confirm that there is no omission, which started the car and drove away from the parking lot.

In the view of many people, doing so is certainly not worth it, but Murphy does not regret it at all, any capital cohesion process, never smooth sailing, always full of hardships, like him such a virtually non-existent small people, want to get a substantial amount of start-up capital, is bound to use some extraordinary means.

Besides, this is the United States of America, and not the other side of the Pacific Ocean where he was born and raised.

Murphy never had universal saint sentiment.

Back home, Murphy did not rest, but endured fatigue and sleepiness, first went to the bank, will be a thirty thousand U.S. dollars and a hundred thousand U.S. dollars of checks exchanged into their own bank accounts.

With money in hand, Murphy also knows that he still needs to deal with the tax office, he has already offended the LAPDs, and doesn't want to mess with the tax office that is a hundred times more difficult to deal with.

This aspect of the matter, can be left to the lawyer to deal with, and far from the tax season, do not have to worry for the time being.

In addition to these, Murphy the latter days, and lawyer Robert met several times, so that the other side to the LAPD to ask for 100,000 dollars of the reward
