Miracle's POV
I sprinted through the compound, tears blinding me. The slap still stung, but Xio's words cut deeper.
"You deserve worse."
I felt shattered.
Desperate for solitude, I fled to a secluded spot behind the bunkhouse.
Crashing onto a bench, I buried my face in my hands and pulled my legs up to hug them.
Uncontrollable sobs racked my body.
Suddenly, I heard a snap of twigs.
I spun around, terrified.
Hardy stood before me, eyes wide with concern, still bloody in his gear and gun. When he saw me, he was fast when he took the gun apart and flung the pieces on the floor.
It was like he'd expected my reaction and he didn't want a loaded gun there with me.
My mind fractured.
"NO!" I shrieked.
"You jerk!" I screamed.
Terror and relief collided. I attacked, fists pounding his chest.
"How could you?!"
Hardy absorbed the blows, expression calm.
"Kitty…"
