Chereads / Loving The Temperamental Adonis / Chapter 3 - Disappeared

Chapter 3 - Disappeared

Seeing that Mia continued to stupidly lie atop the stranger's chest, Rayne pulled her up to face her. "What's wrong with you?"

Mia looked around confused, suddenly realizing the dense crowd of students on the rooftop. And everyone's eyes were on her, some pointing while whispering, others giving her a sympathetic look.

"What's going on?" Mia looked around confused again.

"What's going on? Shouldn't I be the one asking that? Something goes wrong and the next thing you do is try to kill yourself?" Rayne snapped.

"What? I..." Just then the man beside her cleared his throat after dusting himself clean.

She stared at him in a daze again. Seeing him standing straight, towing over her, his height stunned her once again and she couldn't help drooling at his full height forgetting Rayne's words just now. The man looked like some mysterious movie star, he even looked out of place among the crowds. However, when he turned to glare at her again, she felt her breath cut short in her lungs and a cold shiver ran down her spine.

Nonetheless, Mia found herself momentarily lost in the depth of his intense gaze. Rayne, who stood beside her was even more upset at Mia's absent minded behavior.

"Hey!" She hit the back of her head again.

"Oww!" Mia rubbed her head painfully, "What was that for, Rayne?"

"You still have the galls to ask that?"

Before Rayne could start reprimanding her again a senior professor walked up to them. Along with him came a few policemen in uniform.

He patted the man who'd pulled Mia in appreciation. Before turning to the two girls with a Stern expression.

"Ahem," The professor, who was known as Mr. Turner, looked at her rather sympathetically.

"Mia Harrison, am officer Harry Chesler, please come with us to the station for questioning," one of the police men who came along with Mr. Turner, introduced himself as he beckoned to Mia to follow them. The man was of average height with a slight chin beard, fair skin and a straight posture.

Mia's brows furrowed in confusion. "Come with you? But why?" That was when she suddenly became fully aware of her surroundings.

The dense crowd of students on the rooftop weren't just standing around, they had their eyes all glued to her, and all of them either had on sympathetic gazes or one of hatred each one directed at her.

She heard loud voices coming from below the building and peeked, only to see an even bigger crowd with firetrucks filling the area. She chuckled nervously as realization dawned on her. Did they think she was trying to kill herself? She swallowed back a sarcastic chuckle.

'Her, Mia Harrison, commit suicide?' She decided to clarify the misunderstanding. Turning to look at the police officer she said. "I'm sorry sir, but this is all some sort of misunderstanding, I wasn't..."

The man cut her short before she was even able to finish speaking. He was quite familiar with suicide cases, the victim would usually deny attempting suicide out of fear of being jailed when they spot the police or embarrassment, after realizing the effects of what they've done.

"Don't worry, we're only going to have a few words with you, and you'll be brought home safely afterwards," The man's voice held no room for refusal even though he had a smile on his face.

With a confused expression, she turned to look at Rayne in askance. But Rayne only pulled her along with a glare.

"Alright officer please lead the way," said her friend to the police man.

Actually, Rayne was quite scared that Mia would suddenly jump off the building the minute they took their eyes off her.

The police officer addressed Mr. Turner before leading them off the crowded rooftop.

Before they left, Mia could hear the professor murmuring something about how good it was that a certain man had been around to rescue her, else she might have jumped to her death. Her eyes subconsciously moved to the spot the dangerously breathtaking man from earlier was standing but he was nowhere to be seen. He had disappeared.

'Where did he go?' she thought as she tried to look around the crowd if she'd caught a glimpse of him, but there was no sight of him. Everyone was saying he had saved her. He must be kind enough to "save" her when he thought she was going to jump. What a kind gentleman.

'My hero,' an amusing concept, she thought with a smile. The image of the man's dangerously handsome face appeared in her mind and she couldn't help but smile faintly. She sure hope to see him again.

After hours and hours of trying to convince the cops a hundred times that she wasn't attempting suicide, she finally relented and just signed a few papers promising not to try it again but she did end up having a therapist assigned to her, which she'd have to attend for six months, at least she wasn't paying for it, which came as a relief.

Leaving the station it was already dark, just as she stepped outside, her ear was suddenly grabbed by someone rendering a sharp pain. Then came Rayne's scolding voice.

"Try to kill yourself huh? So you're so brave enough to jump off a building? Weren't you scared huh? What got into you?" she mercilessly pulled Mia's ears to teach her a lesson.

"Ow! Ow! Ow! Ow! It Hurts." Mia rubbed at her aching ear stinging with pain," I really wasn't attempting suicide, really."

"Who are you trying to fool?" Rayne didn't believe her, after all she clearly saw her almost jump off a building.

"I really wasn't, I went there for a fresh air because I was upset at the fact that I was stupid enough to trust that Diane with my information about the Da Kroll."

"And so you thought to kill yourself," Rayne admonished.

"Pfft, no you should know more than anyone how much I value my own life and how much I want to succeed in life. Why would I try to kill myself when I haven't achieve that dream yet? " Mia remarked with an eye roll.

"Yes, but more than anyone I know how much you value your studies maybe even more than your life, who was it that ran into a safehouse guarded by deadly dogs that can rip you apart just to get your story, and all that for your assignment, mhhm," she crossed her arms against her chest, looking at Mia with raised brows.

"Well, that was because, I was so close back then, would I allow just a pack of dogs to stop me? Anyway that's not the point, the point is I wasn't attempting suicide, gosh! Am not that crazy to jump off a building, do you know how high that is?" She was really getting tired of saying this same thing all day.

"Promise you weren't trying to jump?" Rayne looked at her skeptically.

"I swear." Mia sighed holding Rayne's shoulders. "Really, I just wanted to relax," She noticed Rayne finally calm down at her words.

"Is that any way to relax? So what happened with Diane this morning?" Rayne couldn't believe that she had really gone there due to the fact that she was upset. During the limited time she'd known Mia she'd always had crazy ways to unwind.

Mia pursed her lips at her friend's question. This morning was supposed to be her presentation in class for her story project, she'd spent months doing research, going places, finding clues all to prepare for this big presentation, only to be accused of plagiarizing Diane's project.

Diane was one of the prettiest and popular girls on campus, with her clique of friends, containing the most beautiful and elite girls from the sophomore year. Though they had almost the same classes, Mia and Diane never had any interaction at all. Until this assignment project. Mia was stunned when Diane had come to politely ask for her help, and even pulled an all night with her to do research in the library.

Mia didn't expect to find out that Diane was such a dedicated person she'd always thought of her as another pretty popular girl, but seeing Diane stick close to her for the assignment, she instantly changed her impression of the girl, and trusted her completely to even share the information she'd found out about the underworld organisation known as Da Kroll with Diane in her excitement.

Last night when she had followed a man, who happened to be apart of the Da Kroll, she never thought she'd overhear such news, in her excitement, she texted Diane about it on the phone. Who knew that Diane would suddenly post the story as her own and even prepare to present it this morning in the presentation center. It was really shocking to see all of her own work in someone else's hands, and Diane even received all the credit for it. And to top it all off, one of the biggest News agencies in the country had come in search of Diane, giving her praise and recognition for a work that wasn't even hers in the first place.

Listening to all of this Rayne was furious.

"What did I tell you? Not to trust that Diane girl she's up to no good, but you never listened to me, now do you see that she was really up to no good?" Rayne said in an annoyed tone, glaring at Mia.

Mia meekly shrunk her neck as she said. "Alright, alright don't rub it in, I should have known girls like that would never have any good intentions, next time I'll listen to you alright." She smiled sweetly with two dips in her cheeks.

It was her fault for misunderstanding Diane's character.

Rayne placed her hands across Mia's shoulder as they walked down the street lit up by lampposts, they walked towards a black limo parked across the street.

"Of course you'll listen to me from now on. At least now you know what happens when you don't heed my words." Rayne remarked playfully.

"Yes grandma." Mia grinned nudging Rayne.

"So what happens to your assignment now?" Rayne asked as she handed her books and bag to the Chauffeur, who came down to open the door of the limo for her. Muttering a thank you, she turned back to her friend.

Mia glanced at Rayne with a crying expression, turning down her lips pitifully.

"I might have to restart all over again." She wailed flinging her arms across Rayne's shoulders.

Rayne burst into laughter patting Mia's back, "Don't worry, you will get a new juicy story very soon. Do you want a ride home, we could drop you at home before-"

"No, thanks. I'll take a bus in the next stop." Mia smiled cutting off her friend's offer to drop her at home as usual.

Rayne was already used to her friend turning down her offer to give her a ride, thus she simply nodded her head and got into the car. Waving goodbyes to each other, the limo drove off leaving Mia alone on the street.
