Chapter 28 - Cabin house pt2

The man's irritation seemed to subside as a proud smile spread across his face. "I defeated the boss on the 3rd floor single-handedly," he declared confidently.

Kai snorted in disbelief. "Yeah, right. And I'm the king of Harem Tower."

"Check the update log if you don't believe me," the man challenged with a smirk.

Kai hesitated for a moment before pulling up the log—a mix of curiosity and skepticism driving him. As he read through the entries, his eyes widened in surprise. The guy wasn't lying. He had, indeed, taken down the formidable boss on his own.

"Wow, you really did it," Kai admitted, impressed despite himself. He couldn't help but wonder what it had taken for this enigmatic man to achieve such a feat.

"Of course I did," the man replied smugly, basking in their newfound respect.

Aaron studied him carefully, noting the quiet confidence that radiated from him. For all his bravado, there was a hint of loneliness in his eyes. In the midst of all the action and adventure, could it be that even someone as accomplished as this man still longed for connection?

"Listen," Aaron began, addressing the man more gently. "We didn't mean to barge in on you like that. We're just trying to make our way through this world too. If you ever want some company or help with anything, don't hesitate to reach out."

The man regarded them for a moment, his expression softening. Perhaps he had finally found a group of people who could understand him and share in both his triumphs and vulnerabilities.

"Thanks," he said quietly. "I'll keep that in mind."

Kai stared at the update log, the words 'Jakub - Third Floor Boss Slayer' standing out in bold letters. He looked up at the white-haired, bearded man with a newfound curiosity.

"Alright, Jakub" Kai said, his voice steadier now, "How did you manage to defeat her?"

Jakub leaned against the door frame, crossing his arms with a smug grin playing on his lips. "Well, she had the ability to make people go into a dream-like state," he began, pausing for effect. "So I thought, why not use that to my advantage?"

The group exchanged uncertain glances as they listened to Jakub recount his unconventional method of defeating the boss. They were all used to relying on their skills and reflexes in battle, but this was something else entirely.

"I asked her if she ever had a dream she never wanted to leave," Jakub continued. "When she said no, I offered to make her wildest dreams come true. Push came to shove, and we slept with each other for a long time. I drained her stamina, and then... I slayed her."

Aaron's eyebrows shot up while the others blinked in disbelief. Kai's mind raced, trying to process what Jakub had just shared. Was this really how the game was meant to be played? Were there other ways to progress beyond fighting, or was Jakub just an anomaly? Either way, it opened up a world of possibilities that he hadn't considered before.

"Wait," Aaron said, his eyes narrowing. "Is the woman we saw you with...?"

"Yep," Jakub replied nonchalantly. "That was her."

Silence enveloped the group as they digested the information. The cabin, the woman, Jakub's tactic—all of it seemed so far removed from their own experiences within Harem Tower. But as much as the situation baffled them, it also stirred a sense of intrigue. What other secrets did the game hold? And what would they have to do in order to uncover them?

As Aaron's thoughts swirled, he couldn't help but feel a pang of empathy for Jakub. For all his bravado, there was an undeniable loneliness that seemed to cling to him, even in his moments of triumph. It made Aaron wonder if that was the price one had to pay for thinking outside the box—being forever misunderstood by those who walked a more traditional path.

"Hey," Jakub said, breaking the silence that had settled over the group. "Why don't you guys stay for a while? We could chat and get to know each other." The vulnerability in his voice was unmistakable, and Aaron couldn't help but feel a tug at his heartstrings.

"Sure," Aaron agreed, nodding towards Kai and Drax, who hesitated before shrugging in agreement. Jordan seemed the most hesitant but eventually followed suit, curiosity getting the better of him.

"Great!" Jakub exclaimed, as he gestured for them to follow him back inside the cabin. His eyes crinkled with genuine gratitude, making Aaron wonder just how long Jakub had been isolated in this virtual world.

As they stepped into the cozy interior, Aaron took in the details—flickering candles casting warm light on the wooden walls, soft rugs scattered across the floor, and a crackling fire filling the room with a comforting heat. It was a stark contrast to the harsh reality of Harem Tower they had grown accustomed to.

"Have a seat," Jakub offered, waving to the plush cushions surrounding a low table. The group obliged, settling down, their bodies relaxing into the inviting softness. Aaron could sense the closeness growing amongst the team as they all shared in this unexpected moment of respite, away from the trials and tribulations of the game.

"Tell us more about yourself, Jakub," Kai asked, leaning forward with keen interest. "We've spent so much time fighting our way through Harem Tower. How did you manage to find an alternative path?"

"Ah, well," Jakub began, stroking his white beard thoughtfully. "I've always been a bit of a loner, even before I entered the game. But when I found myself here, faced with the prospect of battling my way to freedom, I realized I needed to forge my own path. One that aligned with who I am, rather than what the game expected me to be."

Aaron listened intently, his mind racing with questions and possibilities. If Jakub could defy the conventions of Harem Tower, then what other unexplored strategies were out there? And how could they be used to their advantage?

"Was it difficult?" Aaron asked, his voice barely above a whisper. "Going against the grain like that?"

"Of course," Jakub replied, his eyes growing somber. "There were times when I doubted myself, when I wondered if I was just prolonging the inevitable. But in moments of darkness, I clung to the hope that my actions might pave the way for a brighter future—one where we're not bound by the whims of a cruel game."

His words resonated deeply with Aaron, who had long grappled with feelings of loneliness and isolation. Perhaps this encounter with Jakub was the catalyst he needed to truly embrace his own unique strengths within Harem Tower.

"Thank you for sharing your story, Jakub," Aaron said sincerely. "It's given us a lot to think about."

"Think nothing of it," Jakub smiled warmly. "I'm just glad to have some company for once."

As the conversation continued into the night, the group shared stories, laughter, and information from their experiences in Harem Tower. For Aaron, the connection forged with Jakub and his teammates was growing beyond his comprehension.
