Chapter 32 - New discovery

Ever since I met Iravan, I have done a lot of things that were out of character for me. For instance, helping someone who had no relation with me, letting him touch my hair as he pleases, and more.

My eyes narrowed as I continued to dry his hair, I don't like how I'm behaving toward him. I hate the feeling as if my emotions are going into haywire all over the place.

Additionally, how could I hear the siren's screams when I live miles away from the house?

What is the connection between us? I asked, "Iravan, can you speak to me in my mind?" Iravan tilts his head as he raises his hand toward my face.

I was in a daze due to his magnetic eyes that stared deeply within my soul. I shook myself to get out of the temporary stupor as I held the towel.

Raising my eyebrows as I look at Iravan's hand that touches my cold cheeks.

I was about to speak until I heard an ancient voice that sounded like the roar of rushing waters through my mind. His inner voice sounds so different from his real voice.

His words aren't in my language, so how come I could understand what he's saying. What language is he speaking in?

Furrowing my eyebrows as I wondered if this was one of the siren's abilities. Do they communicate by touching each other? If so, what else can they do?

Deciding to speak, "Do sirens speak like this to one another?"

Iravan nodded his head before I heard his ancient voice again, "Yes, my kind can speak with each other just by touching each other on the hand, arm, or cheeks. They only do this with the one they trust."

I raised my eyebrows intrigued, "If so, why do you trust me? We don't know each other that well. That guy, Jonathan, and I dragged you here while you were unconscious."

Iravan's eyes narrowed with a strange glint in the white room as his ancient voice spoke, "Why was I unconscious? I remember feeling drowsy and sluggish after I ate the salmon, then I woke up in this peculiar white cave. Did you do something to the salmon? It did taste a little different and smell a little strange, but I didn't think much of it. I was starving. Where is this place? What is this soft thing under me?"

Raising my eyes at the unexpected emotion surge through me at his words, but the emotion was fleeting and gone before I could've recognized the feelings,

"This soft thing you're sitting on is a nursing bed. We added a sedative to the salmon, causing you to fall into an unconscious state. This white room isn't a cave, but the nurse's room. Why didn't you eat something in the water, and what happened to your sister?"

There's an unknown emotion that ran through Iravan's eyes at my words. It was fleeting, so I couldn't read it.

I started to feel uncomfortable when he looked into my eyes as if to search for something, but he seemed satisfied by whatever he found.

"There wasn't enough food in the water. My sister and I looked everywhere. All of the food was becoming scarce. I wanted to go further, but my sister thought it was getting dangerous since we were getting closer to the shore. We decided to go separate for a while until I heard a shrill cry. I knew she was in danger, so I went to search for her. I found she was caught in a net, along with other fish. She was pulled to the surface before I could reach her, and I never saw her again."

I sat on the edge of the bed as I was getting weary. Iravan's body stiffened at my movement, but started to relax again.

I started to dry Iravan's hair as I thought about his words. It makes sense, but how come there wasn't enough food in the ocean. The ocean is so vast that the whole idea seems ludicrous. At that moment, something came to mind. On the news, some fishermen caught something so large that two men were injured, and it took more than six people to pull it in.

What if the Alkmini and the fish incident on the news are related in some ways. I will have to look more into it.

Opening my eyes to the silent, eerie room where I found Iravan in a deep slumber on my lap.

A scowl curled on my face as I wondered when Iravan fell asleep in my lap. I must've been pondering hard about the whole matter. It was an unexpected situation I found myself in.

Looking through the windows, out into the moonlight, and the unending stars that shine through the night. I could see the shadowy trees and hundreds of cars that's parked in front of the school.

It gives off an eerily, peaceful atmosphere where everything is serene and tranquil.

Looking away and staring at Iravan's face, no one would have guessed that a normal-looking youth could hide a terrible, dangerous secret under this guileless and deceptive face.

There's a completely different atmosphere around him when he's wide awake and sleeping unaware.

There's a dangerous vibe that surrounds him when he's awake. Through his eyes, you could see some sort of wildness and predatory look that stares at you.

I shook my head as I cautiously moved Iravan's head on the bed. I grabbed the towel as I left the room and turned the door softly as it clicked. There wasn't any sudden movement, so I knew Iravan was in a deep sleep.
