Chapter 1 - Prologue...

THE FIRST TWO hours of sleep are the heaviest.

All of our senses fall into a deep slumber, difficult to wake from, almost as if our souls have left our bodies.

During this period, our brain activity is high and we may have vivid dreams whereby having nightmares would be the scariest.

Quite an unpleasant experience.

Suzune had long fallen into that stage of sleep and had woken up due to the nightly episodes of nightmares that trapped her dreams every time she fell asleep. From there she laid silently in the bed, thinking about her beautiful and perfect past.

A past that she shared first with her mother before she died and the other past that her sister fought to protect her before her own life was taken by cruel werewolf agents sent by the bastard that was after her.

Somewhere outside the building, she hears a song play, sung by a woman with a penetrating throaty voice. She isn't actually listening. She dislikes the woman's voice;

No no, not I

I will survive

And as long as I know how to love

I know I'll stay alive

I've got all my life to live

And I've got all my love to give and I will survive

I will survive

Then something else catches her attention and throws her into sudden alertness. The creaky noise of her hotel room door open and close. Someone has broken into her hotel room and that only meant one thing; another shifter agent had been sent to capture her.

She listens carefully to the intruder's footsteps which are almost silent as an assassin's as they approach the bed. Pretending to be asleep, Suzune closes her eyes, slows her heart beat and breathing pattern to fool the agent into thinking she's actually asleep.

A wicked smile spreads on the agent's lips as he hovers above her small figure lying on the bed.

Thank the moon goddess, he delights inside his head, I finally have gotten this notorious female in my hands. Something that others failed to do. Alpha is going to be proud and he'll promote me to a higher position.

But boy he is wrong. A little lost in his primal pride of pre-success moment, he doesn't see how Sienna grabs her silver bullet gun from under her pillow, aims at his head and pulls the trigger. It all happens so fast in just a single blink of the eye.

The agent falls to the ground right after the bullet pierces his skull. Slipping lazily out of bed, Suzune stands on her two feet and finishes him off by another bullet straight to the left side of his chest where his heart was.

White wisps of smoke begin wafting into the air. In a matter of minutes the agent's body burst into flames. And that gave her an idea. To burn the room down and leave something fireproof as evidence to make them believe she died in the fire.

She watches the beautiful orange and yellow flames burn on the body as she dons a fresh pair of clothes, wears her contacts and wig as the fire spread onto the sheets.

She empties a bottle of rum onto the bed causing the fire to spread more and wildly. She slips off her bronze ring and throws it on the bed. It's very precious to her, the only thing left of her mother that she had.

This was a dumb sacrifice that she was making but if it meant getting those shifters off her tail, then so be it.

She leaves the room as the fire grows into a merciless blaze, devouring anything and everything in its way. For a moment while she is finding her way out of the building, she is tempted to go back and burn along with the agent.

Once she's safely made it out without anybody noticing, she watches from a distance, the wild blazing flames bursting through the window like the ruthless fire that burned deep inside her savage soul.

The sound of firetrucks, ambulances and of course the police making their way to the hotel could be heard from a hundred meter radius. People of all ages, old and young were being ushered out of the building by the employees safely.

She was just seventeen and running for her life, running from shifters she knew sooner or later would grasp onto the truth that she was alive and hunt for her again.

For the mean time, she had to focus on getting a new identity and live as someone else without getting caught. It was all only a matter of time.

THREE YEARS LATER...
