Chapter 5 - Internal Situation

Fretting over the international situation is quite pointless right now, I'm not even an adult nor do I have the power to change anything, if anything I should be considering the current situation in Russia.

If I'm correct right now Russia should be ruled by Elizabeth, my grandmother, from what I remember she should die when I'm eight or nine, and wasn't that attentive of Paul in history but I'm going to milk her for all her worth while she's still alive, maybe on my birthdays I'll request large amounts of money or huge estates, but she doesn't have much use since she'll die quite early, and it's not like I can prolong her life.

My father Peter though? I have high hopes, keyword there being hopes, why? Quite simple really, I want my father to rule till I atleast turn 16 then I can have a reason to take the crown without a regency.

However, the problem is that my father reigned for only 6 months and got deposed before Paul even turned 8. How does one get crowned and rule for 6 months before getting ousted?

Peter had a lot of love for German things, which makes sense since he was German, but that goes for almost all monarchies in Europe, but the key difference is he brought his sentiment for German things to Russia.

He didn't learn the Russian language, he didn't adopt the Orthodox faith and quite literally made a mockery of the Russian people, his future subjects, and his Aunt who adopted him and the Russian culture

All of that can be begrudgingly accepted, after all, many monarchs have been known not to be familiar with their subjects' ways of life, King George the First being a nice example.

What didn't help was that he was a big fan of Fredrick of Prussia, also known as the leader of Prussia(duh) and just so happened to be on the opposite side of Russia during the Seven Years' War and the man who's tactical and strategic ingenuity killed a lot of Russian soldiers, so you can see why him popularizing his idol in a country that hated his idol made him unpopular.

The sheer incompetence from Peter doesn't stop there though, Peter loved his idol so much that he deliberately sabotaged Russian interests for his Idol, when Russia was so close to curb-stomping Fredrick, Peter decided to give all of Prussia back its original territories before the war and nice written apology to Fredrick, and this couldn't be taken down by the Russian people and Peter signing his death warrant.

So from what I can tell, saving Peter is saving a sinking ship and quite impossible.

Truly the biggest threat concerning me is my mother, Catherine, this lady is shrewd and cunning, which is great if you are ruled by her, not great when you are her enemy, which is what I might be.

My plan is to get crowned as early as possible so that I could industrialize Russia, increase the literacy of the Russians, get rid of serfdom, and ensure that Russia is prepared for the Napoleon apocalypse, but my mother Catherine got crowned after couping my father Peter, thereby bypassing me, and to make it more troubling she has a very long reign and that won't give me enough time to enact my ideas.

So either I fight her for the throne or I make her give me the throne peacefully, I plan to do neither, because the more I think about it the more I realize the title of Crown Prince may be more conducive to my plans.

I don't need to be Tsar to start industrialization my position of being the son of Catherine and the Crown Prince can help me achieve that.
