I stare down at the divorce papers on my lap. Mark and his lawyer are looking at me expectantly as I try to make my decision.
"You won't sign it? Would you rather pay the billion dollars?"
I let out a tired breath, looking up at Mark, "Does it have to get to this?"
"Yes, it does, my love. The world is a cruel place. You don't expect things to always go just the way you want them."
Tears start swelling up in my eyes. I try as much as possible to hold them back. I will do everything but cry, at least not in front of him.
The lawyer brings out his pen and hands it over to me, "You will need one to sign."
I glare back at him, "I never said I was going to sign these! At least not y-yet. I haven't made my decision."
Mark quickly glances at his watch, "We don't have to do this all night, you know. Just sign those damn things."
"I have the right to sign it whenever I want."
