Many, many years ago, there existed magic beyond the average man's imagination, and it flourished within the land of the Rising Sun. This magic could be harnessed by the ones known to all, as The Five Elders. They were those who came before all necromancers of today and were known back then, as Wizards and Witches.
The Five Elders consisted of the wizard of the Blue Fire: Aoiro Hikari, the witch of the Cold Moon: Tsumetai Tsuki, the wizard of the Black Swamp: Kuroi Numa, the witch of the Drifting Cloud: Hyoryu Kumo and the wizard of Twisted Dreams: Yuganda Yume.
Each elder possessed special magic, particular to them alone and passed it down to their children, and their children passed it on to their own children, creating generations upon generations of powerful witches and wizards.
To give an example, Aoiro Hikari, who was the Kim family's predecessor, was known to be of tall height, with deep, twinkling eyes. Jae-sung and other family members inherited this trait, though due his mother being Korean and his father being half Korean and half Japanese, it is to be expected that not all family members had necromancing abilities. It is said that Jae-sung, who looked so similar to his ancestor and was blessed to be a powerful necromancer, and this already began to prove itself to be true.
Also, Kuroi Numa, who was the Kurosawa family's ancestor, was known to have, despite his title, long silver hair and luminescent eyes, with the left being purple and the right being blue. He was regarded as possibly the most beautiful of the wizards at that time so naturally, all his children were beautiful as well.
Though it must be known that though he was seen as a kind and loving wizard, he would become awfully frightening one he got angry or agitated and his eyes would turn black and muddled, hence earning himself the title "Black Swamp". In the end, this trait of his was inherited by a select few of the family and that included Tsukiko, who bore the most resemblance to him that anyone ever had in centuries. This was the same situation as Jae-sung.
Other such cases occurred and formed the prominent necromancers known today. Over time, most families formed clans that strictly consisted of family members and no outsiders. If any member of the clan wished to be married, they'd have to either marry a very distant cousin or a very powerful necromancer from a prominent family, so most simply put off being married for a while. After all, it was unknown whether or not those necromancers from prominent families would even accept the proposal in the first place.
If they did marry someone from any other family, the female would start to have some qualities from the male which signified they have successfully been united as one.
This made them all sound quite full of themselves, and that was what most of the especially powerful ones acted. However, Tsukiko's family weren't those kinds of people, and to some extent, neither were Jae-sung's. This was what played a huge role in their personalities and attitude towards people.
However, there's something that must be known. Of all the Elders, Yuganda Yume, the Wizard of Twisted Dreams, was known to have the ability to control dreams and visions, who saw them and when they would. Of course, this was passed down to the later generations but, he was still the most adept and controlling people's dreams.
He derived a certain joy from twisting and bending dreams as he felt that they were directly attached to people's souls.
Those around were frightened of him and continued to have several nightmares the minute the shut their eyes. That is until, the day he disappeared.
To this day, no one knew what happened to him or why he'd left. The only clue they had, was a baby, placed on top of his recently deceased wife's grave. The very same baby, everyone had thought to be long gone.
It was all extremely ominous. Still, they took care of the baby, raised it and it through it that the family tree of Yuganda Yume, didn't end up a barren one.
Everyone knew about this story and often told it to their children as folklore tales to get them to sleep. Tsukiko was one of those people.
In the Kim family house, Jae-sung had just sat them down, telling them that there would be trouble, serious trouble. Miyuki was already up to speed as Tsukiko had told her about her and Jae-sung's experience with the text messages, monster, everything.
"So, what do you mean by "something we shouldn't have?", she asked carefully. She had been dragged into this whole mess and instead of being angry or scared, she seemed excited.
Jae-sung who was just about to warn her not to get involved for her own safety, decided against it seeing as how she had become quite eager. Instead, he answered her question.
"Last week, I discovered something. Something terrible...", he paused.
Tsukiko and Miyuki were starting to grow anxious as they waited for Jae-sung to finish his sentence.
"And it's related to Clan of Yuganda Yume."
Hearing this, the girls were both visibly confused. The Yuganda Yume clan weren't known to be very social. In fact, it was quite the opposite.
Tsukiko, "The Yuganda Yume clan? I thought the last known siting of them was in the 1920s?", she asked.
Miyuki answered, "That's right, though it seems there's been rumors about one of them getting married."
Tsukiko was surprised to hear this. They weren't known to easily let strangers into the family, regardless of whether or not they were from a powerful family.
Jae-sung pulled a laptop out of God knows where and showed it to her.
On the screen, there was a picture of a beautiful girl with green hair and eyes which had pupils like that of a snake; vertical and long. Though it was obvious that this was a candid photo as it was a little blurry. Still, it was clear enough to capture most of her features.
Under the picture was a news article. Tsukiko clicked on it and read through it. Jae-sung and Miyuki joined her in doing so and from what they could see, it seems the girl in the photo really was from the Yuganda Yume clan and she really was getting married. Unfortunately, no one knew who as the article was deleted shortly after.
With that Jae-sung took the laptop and shut it.
"It seems there's someone out there who's trying to keep this a secret. That was the only article left on the topic of the girl you saw in the picture. All the rest were already deleted."
Miyuki appeared to be in deep thought, though Tsukiko seemed like she had more questions she wanted to ask Jae-sung.
"So, you're saying that whoever sent that message to you, might be related to the Clan of Twisted Dreams?"
Jae-sung replied, "Yes, that's right. In fact, I'm sure of it. I also believe that the people who sent that lost soul to you must be from there as well."
Tsukiko was stunned by this. If what he said was true, then that might mean they were being targeted!
Then it dawned on her. Jae-sung hadn't come to school because he was the one being targeted the most.
She looked at Jae-sung with a worried expression on her face.
"Are you okay?", she asked.
Jae-sung smiled, "Nothing I couldn't handle". He let out a blue glowing orb that resembled fire. It hovered over the palm of his hand and looked quite menacing. However, the orb's energy wasn't stable, and it constantly dimmed and brightened.
Tsukiko only became more worried as she saw this. Jae-sung saw that her expression had worsened and sighed as he put away the blue orb with a flick of his wrist.
"I had been attacked by a group of monsters from the Darkness. They were Soul Eaters."
Soul Eaters, like Lost Souls, had once been powerful necromancers and walked amongst the elite. Though they had gotten greedy and wanted to be most powerful in the world. This greed would eat away at their hearts, destroying with it any other emotions that were left. Once this was done, they'd have an explosive rebirth, turning them into Soul Eaters.
Since they are unable to feel anything, they also wish for others to feel nothing. So, they attack the souls of others, trying to feast on them and strip others from their own feelings. Thankfully, they were banished into the Darkness. Still, there are still so many who harbor greed in their hearts so there would always be a need to send these Soul Eaters to the Darkness.
Of course, if one of the most powerful descendants of Aoiro Hikari ever got attacked by them, it wouldn't be too horrible of an outcome. Unfortunately, they could be affected by, not the soul eaters, but the poison that spat from their mouths. It was dubbed as the Avarice Poison and was capable of turning those affected by it, into a Soul Eater. And it was a very slow and painful process.
The Soul Eaters that had attacked Jae-sung had spat the poison at him. Though he dodged most of it, a little bit had managed to come into contact with his body, successfully poisoning him.
Fortunately, it wasn't enough to turn him into a Soul Eater, but his powers had weakened and would take some time to recover.
Miyuki, "You're lucky to have had only a little of it get on you! Anymore and you'd be on your way to being a Soul Eater."
Tsukiko nodded her head furiously at this.
"You have to be more careful from now on. Not coming to school was the best option."
Jae-sung simply nodded at this, a hint of a smile forming on his face.
"I know, so please don't worry."
Tsukiko finally stopped frowning and let out a small smile.
"Okay, I trust you."
Then they just kept looking at each other and smiling.
Miyuki, who had inexplicably gotten her entire existence forgotten, sat there like a wooden doll.
"Hah....they've forgotten about me", she thought to herself.
Miyuki stiffly cleared her throat to remind them that there was a whole other human being in the room.
Tsukiko and Jae-sung sweat dropped, and Tsukiko apologized to Miyuki with an embarrassed smile.
Jae-sung got right back to business.
"So, until my powers fully return, I won't be able to go to school. In the meantime, I've been doing a little research on the current family of Yuganda Yume..."
He pulled out a notebook full of sticky notes, photographs and page stoppers. It seemed he really had been working hard on this!
"From what I could gather, it seems they've decided to become more public in the past few years, indirectly pushing aside their ancestor's ways. Also, marrying off one of their kin is also a sign that they'd decided to switch it up a bit and change a few family rules. Though these are only speculations, not much has been heard from the family themselves"
Tsukiko and Miyuki listened attentively.
Tsukiko, "What do you think they want from us?"
Jae-sung, "Well, after all that research, I came to one conclusion"
"There's someone from the Yuganda Yume clan, that's trying kill the other four Major Clans"
"And they are fast"
