Landslide - Fleetwood Mac
---
Taylor's eyes scanned the handwritten lyrics, her expression shifting from curiosity to wonder. Her fingers traced the words on the paper, and she blinked rapidly, as if fighting back tears.
Lucas leaned forward, his elbows on the table. "So..." he ventured, his voice tinged with a mix of hope and nervousness. "What do you think?"
Taylor looked up, her eyes shining. She opened her mouth to speak, closed it, then tried again. "Lucas, this is..." She shook her head, searching for the right words. "It's beautiful. The way you've captured that feeling of... of time slipping away, of change..." She gestured with her hands, as if trying to grasp the emotion in the air.
A smile spread across Lucas's face, relief evident in the relaxing of his shoulders. "Really? I was worried it might be too... I don't know, introspective?"
"No, it's perfect," Taylor assured him. She glanced down at the lyrics again. "You know, it kind of reminds me of some of the stuff on my new album. Have you heard 'All Too Well'?"
Lucas nodded eagerly. "Yeah, it's amazing. Your whole 'Red' album is killing it right now."
Taylor beamed at the compliment. "Thanks! So, um..." She bit her lip, a hint of excitement in her voice. "What are your plans for this song?"
Lucas took a deep breath, his fingers tapping nervously on the table. "Well, I was thinking... maybe we could record it together? Your voice would be perfect for this."
Taylor's eyes widened, a grin spreading across her face. "Are you kidding? I'd love to!" She paused, her expression turning thoughtful. "You know, with the Grammys coming up in February, this could be an amazing performance piece."
Lucas's eyebrows shot up. "Wow, you think so? That would be incredible."
"Absolutely," Taylor nodded enthusiastically. She raised her water glass. "To 'Landslide' and new collaborations?"
Lucas clinked his glass against hers, grinning. "To 'Landslide' and new collaborations."

The sun had dipped low on the horizon as Lucas and Taylor stepped out of the cab onto 8th Street. The neon sign of Electric Lady Studios cast a soft blue glow on their faces as they approached the entrance.
Lucas pulled open the heavy door, the familiar scent of old wood and electronics washing over him. As they entered, a stocky man with salt-and-pepper hair looked up from the reception desk, his face breaking into a wide grin.
"Well, I'll be damned," the man said, rounding the desk with arms outstretched. "Lucas Knight, as I live and breathe!"
Lucas clasped the man's hand warmly. "Lee, you old dog! How long has it been?"
Lee pulled Lucas into a quick hug, patting his back. "Too long, my friend. Too long." He turned to Taylor, giving her a respectful nod. "Ms. Swift, always a pleasure to have you here."
Taylor smiled brightly. "Thanks, Lee. It's great to be back."
Lee clapped his hands together. "Well, you two are in luck. Studio A is all set up and waiting for you." He winked at Taylor. "Just the way you like it."
As they followed Lee down the hallway, Lucas leaned in close to Taylor. "You come here often?" he whispered, a hint of amusement in his voice.
Taylor nudged him playfully. "What can I say? The acoustics are killer."
Lee pushed open a door, revealing a spacious room filled with state-of-the-art recording equipment. A gleaming grand piano sat in the corner, and several guitars were propped up against the wall.
"Here we are," Lee announced, gesturing grandly. "Your castle of creativity awaits."
Lucas whistled low, taking in the sight. "This is incredible."
Taylor was already moving towards the piano, her fingers hovering over the keys. "Shall we get started?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Lee chuckled, backing out of the room. "I'll leave you two to it. If you need anything, just holler."
After Lee's departure, Lucas settled into a chair adjacent to Taylor. His eyes roamed the studio, taking in the array of equipment and the intimate atmosphere. Turning to Taylor, he cleared his throat softly.
"How about I give you a preview of the song?" Lucas offered. "You know, just to get a feel for it."
Taylor's face lit up, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. "I'd love that," she replied, leaning forward slightly. "Let's hear what you've got."
With a gentle touch, Lucas began to strum. The melody filled the room, soft and melancholic. His fingers danced across the fretboard, muscle memory guiding each chord change.
"I took my love, I took it down," Lucas's voice rang out, clear and emotive. "Climbed a mountain and I turned around."
Taylor leaned forward, her elbows on her knees, completely absorbed. Her foot tapped lightly to the rhythm, her eyes never leaving Lucas's face.
"And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills," Lucas continued, his voice gaining strength. "'Til the landslide brought me down."
As he launched into the chorus, Lucas's eyes opened, meeting Taylor's gaze. "Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?"
His voice cracked slightly on the word "love," adding a raw vulnerability to the performance. Taylor's lips parted in a silent gasp, clearly moved by the emotion in his delivery.
Lucas continued to play, lost in the music. The studio seemed to fade away, leaving just him, the guitar, and the song. Each word, each note, carried the weight of experience, of time passed and lessons learned.
As the final chords faded, silence descended once more. Lucas looked up, his cheeks flushed from the performance, to find Taylor staring at him, her eyes glistening.
"Lucas," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "That was... wow."
Lucas's lips curved into a warm smile, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "You liked it, huh?" he said softly, the question more of a statement. He extended the guitar towards Taylor, his fingers lingering on the smooth wood for a moment before releasing it.
Taylor nodded, her blonde hair catching the studio lights as she moved. Her hands reached out, gently taking the instrument from Lucas. The guitar settled naturally into her lap, as if it belonged there.
"Let me play it," she said, her voice tinged with excitement and a hint of reverence for the song she'd just heard.
Taylor's eyes flicked to the sheet of paper on the nearby music stand, scanning the chord progression Lucas had jotted down alongside the lyrics. Her fingers found their positions on the fretboard, adjusting slightly as she familiarized herself with the arrangement.
With a deep breath, Taylor began to strum. The first few chords were tentative, her brow furrowed in concentration as she navigated the unfamiliar melody. But as she progressed, her confidence grew. Her strumming became more assured, her fingers dancing across the strings with increasing fluidity.
Lucas leaned forward, elbows on his knees, watching intently as Taylor breathed new life into his composition. Her interpretation was subtly different - a slight change in rhythm here, a unique inflection there - making the song her own while respecting its essence.
Taylor's fingers continued to dance across the strings as she took a deep breath, her voice joining the melody:
"Time makes you bolder, children get older
I'm getting older too
Oh, take my love, take it down
Oh, climb a mountain and turn around"
Her voice, rich and emotive, filled the studio. As the final chord faded, Lucas broke into enthusiastic applause, his eyes wide with admiration.
"Very good!" he exclaimed, genuine awe in his voice. "I think you capture the song's emotions even better than I did..."
Taylor's cheeks flushed slightly at the compliment. "Thanks," she replied, a warm smile spreading across her face.
As they continued to work in the studio, bouncing ideas off each other and experimenting with different arrangements, Lucas found his mind wandering. A memory of a film he watched in his previous life surfaced - "A Star is Born."
Curiosity piqued, Lucas turned to Taylor. "Say," he began, his tone casual but interested, "have you ever acted in a movie?"
Taylor chuckled, shaking her head. "Not really," she admitted. "I mean, I did a voice role in 'The Lorax', but that was just voice acting. And I had a tiny part in 'Valentine's Day' a couple years ago, but it was more of a cameo than real acting." She shrugged, a hint of self-deprecation in her smile. "I'm much more comfortable behind a microphone than in front of a camera."
Lucas nodded, absorbing this information. "But you've thought about it?" he pressed gently.
Taylor's eyebrows arched, curiosity sparkling in her eyes. "Why are you asking about it?" she inquired, her tone genuinely interested.
Lucas leaned back in his chair, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. "Well," he began, his voice tinged with excitement, "I've actually been toying with a movie idea lately. And, you know, there's this character I've been envisioning... a singer-songwriter. Kinda reminds me of you, actually."
Taylor's eyebrows shot up, her interest clearly piqued. "Really?" she asked, leaning forward slightly. "You're thinking of me for a movie role?"
Lucas nodded, a hint of nervousness creeping into his smile. "Yeah, I mean, the character... she's got this raw talent, this authenticity that just leaps off the page. When I think about who could bring her to life, your name keeps popping into my head."
A mix of surprise and flattery flashed across Taylor's face. "Wow, Lucas," she said, a soft laugh escaping her lips. "I had no idea you were into filmmaking too. I thought you were just the guy in front of the camera."
Lucas grinned, shrugging slightly. "Well, you know how it is in Hollywood. You start making connections, and suddenly you realize you've got the power to bring stories to life in more ways than one." He paused, his expression growing more serious. "I've got some solid relationships with a few studios. If I pitched this idea... well, let's just say they'd listen."
Taylor shook her head in amazement. "Look at you, Mr. Hollywood Big Shot," she teased, but there was genuine admiration in her voice. "Next thing I know, you'll be telling me you own a studio or something."
