Dearest Diary
It is I; Daria of the house of Reynaldy and it's currently lunch break right now but I am quickly jotting this down while scoffing on my lunch box. Ah Today's lunch box menu is bread from my parents' bakery. A pretty sort of soft and sort of crispy bread spread with savoury creamy mixture and filled with watercress and nectarines drizzled with a mixture of olive oil, salt, pepper and honey. Nectarines are summer fruits, these were imported from Malaysia or Indonesia so we were lucky to get them. They are so delicious. I like having prunes, apples or pears in the bread if there's no nectarines available. Oh and strawberry and cream sandwich for dessert. What a scrumptious lunch I dare say. Anyway I am now in the school's backyard. We aren't allowed to eat inside the schoolroom, it's incredibly cold out here but I shall do my best to fill you in with how this morning went.
Cameron and I walked all way to school and we were introduced by the professor as the new students from the Reynaldy earldom. And because of that during first break the classmates wouldn't stop questioning us. Sure the house of Reynaldy is rather famous and all because of being a noble and prestigious family who only produced academic prodigies and business tycoons... So much for trying to live a quiet peaceful life outside high society. I made a few friends myself though and so did my brother. He says his new best friend is Uriah Turiya; quite a cheerful little lad I should say. I'm glad he's fitting in however he's more social than I am. I am surprised I even made some friends. Their names are Katerina Chervinsky, Rei Baldur, and Fatimah Bluebell. Cameron said he shall tell me more about his new friends on our way back home so we can all become a clique. Are we the only ones from a noble family attending this school? I shall like to know. But it doesn't really matter since we left high society for a quieter life. My parents say it's temporary but I am liking this. I don't have to always be prim and proper anymore and can play and goof around as much as I like. I don't have to be a perfect little lady, I breathe the air of freedom.
Let's talk about the classes I had a little, shall we? First we had Mathematics which was most gruesome and boring. Cameron loves Mathematics though, however I believe it is not my cup of tea. I prefer drawing, painting and literature, I am rather curious about Chemistry and all sciences too. Oh right before lunch we had a very interesting science class. And I am running out of time, lunch break will be over any minute now and I ate out here instead of the dining hall because I needed to write in here despite freezing. My fingertips are about to fall... That's the feeling of it. We have needlework class next for the girls and the boys have carpentry class. I'm thrilled for I love needlework, after that we will have a literature class and then it's self study till school time ends. I shall go now and update you later on tonight.
The bell rung and it was homeroom time. It was also the say of the seat shuffle, meaning that the next class hours would be halved. The professor took out a box and asked all students to come and draw a piece of paper from it, in order. Daria got the seat next to the window with the view of the mountains, and next to her was Rei Baldur; one of her friends, a quiet and cheerful boy he was, very charming and clever. He smiled at her and said "mind me being your seat neighbour? I mean it is usually girls sit with girls and they believe it rather humiliating to sit with boys, but since it was a random draw then maybe this is fate?"
Daria flushed red and said "it is indeed rather humiliating to sit with boys, I'd rather eat a frog! But we are friends aren't we? And since this was a draw the professor decided on, I shall respect it. Now if you will excuse me, I have things to do."
"Like what?" Teased Rei
"To prepare for my needlework class" answered Daria nonchalantly.
Rei just sat there, staring at her, observing how she was rustling through her school bag furiously all while still as red as a tomato with her little pale hands and chuckled.
"What's so funny?" Asked Daria.
"Nothing, it's just that you remind me of a kitten." Said Rei while still smiling.
"Breathe in and breathe out Daria, I shall remain calm like mother taught me when someone annoyingly mischievous appears." Mumbled Daria, but Rei had heard Which made him laugh a little more now as he patted Daria's head. "What do you think you are doing?" Asked Daria confused yet as she looked at him laugh, she felt like laughing too. He had a dimple and his lips would curl up as he laughed, truly the sign of a mischievous little lad thought Daria.
The school day went by smoothly and Daria did amazing in needlework class. They had to embroider a handkerchief with any flowers of their choice. She decided to embroider a plum blossom branch and a sparrow perched on. Her work was refined and elegant as she often practiced with her mother by the fireplace during cold winder nights and during summer storms. Lately she took a deeper interest in embroidery and sewing that she would practice everyday, making clothes for her dolls and embroidering on aprons and kitchen towels.
The boys' carpentry class went well too, they had made some simple crafts. Cameron crafted a comb, he was agile and his work was mesmerising. A wooden comb with peach blossom carvings he had thought he would gift to his mother once he was home. Uriah had made a wooden mug with mystical mushroom houses carvings.
The day was busy and the siblings had a great time at the local school that on their way back they would each excitedly re count the dwellings of the day to each other, hopeful for another day full of fun and laughter with their friends again.
