It seemed to Vandhiyathevan that the horses were going on an endless road. Has this Vaishnava really deceived us? Is he going to hand us over to our enemies? There were thick forests on both sides. There was a terrible darkness in them. I don't know what the dangers are in that dark forest. Leopards, bears, elephants, poisonous creatures—with these enemies may also be hidden; Who saw it? Didn't they say that Dambala was the last place occupied by the Chola army in the south? Where is he taking us?
Fortunately there was some moonlight. The moon's rays crawled and played on the tops of the skyscraper trees. The resulting light sometimes fell on the path. Sometimes silhouettes came to the eye of three horses in front. But the tramp of horses hoofs was incessant.
Suddenly, there were other sounds. Unexpected noises in the middle of the forest. The sound of many human voices. The sound of merrily dancing. Aa! There is light among the trees. Along with the light of the torches was the light of the large furnaces. Aha! Who are the merry warriors in the middle of this forest? Chola Nadu soldiers? Or soldiers from the enemy army?
Vandhiyathevan must have thought about this for a very short time. In that brief moment, Vandhiyathevan did not notice that the horses in front suddenly stopped and one of the horses turned brightly. The horse turned forward and approached Vandhiyathevan's horse. The man on it suddenly leaned towards Vandhiyathevan and threw a punch. When Vandhiyathevan stumbled under the shock of the punch, he grabbed one of his knees and pushed him hard. Vandhiyathevan stumbled and fell to the ground. His horse galloped a short distance away and then stopped.
By this time the soldier who had pushed him jumped down from his horse and came near Vandhiyathevan. He snatched the knife from Vandhiyathevan's waist and threw it away, as he staggered to his feet. Immediately Vandhiyathevan was revived. And rage flared up. He took a leap and stood up. He clenched both hands and stabbed the man who had pushed him with a thunderboltlike fist. Will the man who took the punch remain idle? He also showed his handiwork. A splendid battle ensued between the two. Kato Thkajan and Idumban fought as if they were fighting. Lord Shiva and Arjuna in the guise of a hunter rolled over as if they were hugged. They collided as if two yards were shifting and colliding with each other.
Azhvarkadiyan who came with Vandhiyathevan and the soldiers in front of them stood at a distance and stood looking at them in amazement. In the moonlight, often bored by the movement of the branches, they watched the strange fight without batting an eye. Soon footsteps were heard. Some of the soldiers came to the spot with torched torches in their hands, withdrawing the branches of the trees. Those who came also stood looking at the battle in amazement. In a short time a large crowd gathered around.
Finally, Vandhiyathevan was knocked down. The soldier pushed him onto his chest and sat down and untied the roll of cloth around his waist. He grabbed the letter inside. Vandhiyathevan tried his best to stop it, but in vain.
As soon as the leaf fell into the soldier's hand, he leapt to the shaft of light held by the bystanders. He made a signal and two soldiers ran and caught Vandhiyathevan from getting up from the ground.
With unspeakable rage and thirst, Vandhiyathevan said, "Sinful Vaishnava! Such a betrayal! Snatch that letter from him!" he shouted.
"Uncle! It is impossible for me to do this!" said Azhvarkadiyan.
"! I have never seen a coward like you! Didn't I trust you as a guide?" said Vandhiyathevan.
Azhvarkadiyan slowly dismounted from his horse and went up to Vandhiyathevan and whispered in his ear, "Aye asade! The letter has gone to the one to whom you brought it! Why are you lamenting in vain?"
The other soldiers saw the face of the soldier who was reading the letter in the flashlight. Immediately a great cheer arose from them.
"Long live Ponniyin Selvar! Live!"
"Long live the Alien King!"
"Long live our young man!"
Slogans such as "Long live the descendant of the Chola tribe!" rose and spread throughout the forest. Echoing their chants, the birds sleeping on the branches awoke, flapping their feathers, and making various sounds.
The prince of the kingdom, who gave the name to this story, the heroic warrior who had no parallel in the history of the Tamilakam, the one who made the Cola dynasty an immortal dynasty of immortal fame, and Arulmozhivarmar, who would later be known as Rajaraja, had to be introduced to the audience in the absence of time and in an inopportune situation, without any royal insignia. Naturally, this will cause some distress to the viewers. But what can be done? If our hero Vandhiyathevan had just met him for the first time, how could we have seen him earlier!
Arulmozhi Thevar came near to Vandhiyathevan. Vandhiyathevan was startled for a moment that he was coming to test the strength of his fist again.
But he changed his doubts when he saw his smiling face.
"Oh dear! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome to the beautiful island of Sri Lanka! Didn't you come all this way across the sea to join the brave soldiers of Chola Nadu? Have you been satisfied with my heroic reception? Or do you think that is not enough, and that a smaller and more pompous reception should be given?" said the prince and smiled.
Vandhiyathevan jumped up and stood up with a bow and said, "Prince! The letter given by your sister has reached you and my duty is over. I don't have to save this life anymore. If you want, we can read Yuddha Kandam for some more time!"
"Aha! What can I tell you? You don't care about your life anymore. That worry is now mine. Otherwise, what will I say to the junior stateswoman tomorrow? Friend, the letter I have just read seems to have been written by my sister's hand. Did he give it to you in person?"
"Yes, Prince! I had the privilege of receiving this letter in person from the hands of the junior stateswoman. Then I traveled day and night without stopping anywhere."
"That sounds good. Otherwise, would he have been here so soon? What recompense am I going to do for someone who has done such a rare favor!" said the prince and embraced Vandhiyathevan to his chest. At that time Vandhiyathevan thought that he was in heaven. All the pain had vanished from his body.
