We have ignored Azhvarkadiyan Nambi, whom we knew intimately in the early days of this story, for some time. We apologize to the viewers and Nambi for that. Most importantly, we have to ask for Nambi's forgiveness now. Because Azhvarkadiyan is very angry now! His front tuft is fluttering in the breeze on the Rameswaram beach. His cane is whirling overhead. He is surrounded by many Adi Saivas and Veerashaivas. Since their agitation is so strong, we are a little worried about the fate of Azhvarkadiyan. However, Nambi's Narasimha avatar appearance and the speed with which his stick rotates alleviate that worry.
Azhvarkadiyan overheard Vandhiyathevan and the junior stateswoman talking and left Pazhaiyarai on the same day. Gas-fast Mano hurried southwards. Nowhere along the way did he get involved in a Shaiva or Vaishnava fight. He controlled his mind so as not to get in jeopardy and shrugged off the fights that came his way. He stayed in Madurai for some time. There he enquired about the news he wanted to know and left for Rameswaram. Azhvarkadiyan Nambi reached Rameswaram on the same day when Vandhiyathevan landed in Poongkuzhali's boat on the island of Ilankai.
As soon as he stepped on that holy land, the Vaishnava zeal that had been suppressed in Azhvarkadiyan's mind all these days burst the shore and burst forth. The Veerashaiva Bhattars who were flocking everywhere in the island of Rameswaram fuelled this curiosity. Their duties are to guide the pilgrims to the holy place, bathe them in the various theerthas, have darshan of the murthi in the temple and explain the specialities of the respective theertham and murthi. Therefore, on seeing the new pilgrims, many Bhattas would go and surround them. In the same way, they gathered around Azhvarkadiyan.
"Uncle! Come on! Come on! Bathe in the sixty-four tirthas in this place and wash off the symbols of Vaishnava language on your body! Isn't this the place where Lord Rama got rid of his Brahmmahati dosha? You can also get rid of the sins caused by wearing the religious symbols of Vaishnava language!" said a pattar quizzically.
Another interrupted and said, "There are 64 theerthas like Rama theertha, Lakshmana theertha, Anjaneya theertham, Sugreeva theertham. Each one took a dip in his head in his own theertham and got rid of his dosha. You come with me to Anjaneya Theertham first! I will make a proper sankalpam for the Vaishnava chinna dosha!"
Another pattar said, "Appan! Don't listen to them! I will take you straight to the place where Rama worshipped the sand of the ocean as a Shivalinga to get rid of the Brahmmahati dosha of killing Ravana."
With a spark in his eyes, Azhvarkadiyan looked at everyone once and said, "Stop your nonsense! First wash your tongue with the waters you have spoken of and expiate your sins!"
"Oho! Do you think we would have sinned by saying Rama and Lakshmana? Nothing like that. The name of this kshetra is Rameswaram. This is the place where Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva and cleansed himself of his sins. With that, the evil in the name of Rama is also gone," said a Veera Saiva pattar.
"O ignorant Shironmanis! Why are you blabbering like this? You don't even know what the name of this place means!"
"You tell me, we'll see!"
"By plucking off one of Brahmma's heads, Lord Shiva was afflicted with Brahmmahathi dosha. Lord Shiva came to this holy place and cleansed himself of the Brahmmahathi dosha by touching the feet of Lord Rama, the perfect incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The name Rameswaram is derived from the place where Lord Shiva worshipped Lord Rama. Did you know, Moodasigamani pattars!" roared Azhvarkadiyan.
"Whoa! Is he going to shut us down? Oh my gosh! Are you the one with horns on your head?" hissed a butter.
"No, sir, Buddy! No horn has grown on my head; I have this horn in my hand! You asked me who I was, didn't you? I'll tell you. He is the devotee of NammazhwAr, who incarnated in Thirukurukur and composed Vedas in Tamil! The stick that beats the heads of others!" he said, raising his stick.
"AzhvarkadiyAr kadiyane! Why do you have a tuft of hair on the front of your head? If you shave that too, the inside and outside of your head will be one!" said a Saiva.
"Butters! I had thought of coming to this holy place and removing the tuft of hair in front of me. By then you had reminded me..."
"Oh! Go to Barbers Street and get a barber! Tell him to sharpen the knife well! We can ask him to root out his hair!" said a pattar.
"Why call a barber for this? Why don't we do it ourselves? Bring me a sharp knife!" said another Saivar.
"Wait a bit; One more thing remains. There was a time when I had thick hair all over my head. I vowed to break the skull of a Saiva and get a hair from my hair. Accordingly, three-quarters of the hair was gone. I am going to fulfill my vow in this town and take a dip in the sea. Where, one by one, show your skull and let's see!" said Azhvarkadiyan waving his stick.
"Oh no! What nonsense is this Vaishnava talking about?" said one.
"Will you break the heads of all of us? Can you?" said another.
"Am I unable to remove three-quarters and a quarter of my hair?" said Azhvarkadiyan and began to spin his stick rapidly.
"Hit me! Hold on! Build! Cut your head!" they shouted, but no one in the crowd came close to Azhvarkadiyan.
At that moment a very recent shout attracted their attention. "Anirutha Brahmadhi Raja, the great chief minister of Tribhuvana emperor Sundara Chola Paranthakar, is coming! Barack! Barack!"
Everyone looked in the direction of the slogan, stunned. Azhvarkadiyan was the most astonished of all and looked at him with his stick under his arm. The place where they stood and fought was a nook along the Rameswaram temple wall. When the nook turned, the vast ocean stretched out in front of him. The view of the sea was a spectacular sight. Huge ships, barleys, small ships, boats, boats, boats, boats, catamarans and catamarans were lined up as far as the eye could see. White sails fluttered in the wind from the masts, almost obscuring the sea, the sky, and the many islands that appeared in the distance.
Anbil Anirutha Brahmarayar, the famous chief minister of the Chola empire, was coming in a boat with royal majesty as the guards followed in front and behind. On the bank, along the temple wall, he noticed the quarrel going on. He beckoned with his hand to Azhvarkadiyan who was standing in the middle of the crowd with a stick under his arm like a great sadhu. Azhvarkadiyan folded his hands in reverence and stood by the seashore.
"Thirumalai! What street play is this?" said Aniruthar.
"Guru! It is all the trick of that Kannan who masterminded the hypocrisy! I don't know whether to believe what I see in my eyes or not. Am I dreaming? Or is it all just an illusion?..."
"Thirumalai! I thought you were a great Vaishnava. When did you become a mystic who calls the universe Mitha?"
"Guru! When you, who are incarnated in the parama Vaishnava lineage, become a Saiva saint, should I not become my mystic? I will change my name and become a devotee of Sri Sankara Bhagavath Pathachariyar..."
"Wait! Wait! Who said I became a Saivite?"
"The symbols on your body say!"
"Aha! Thirumalai! You are still the same you give importance to external symbols! What if the sandal paste on the forehead is tilted? What if you straighten up?"
"Guru! I am ignorant; I don't know what's important and what's not. You have to make me clear."
"Let me make everything clear. Come to my lodgings! There! Do you see a small island in the sea? Come to the hall over there."
"Guru! Shouldn't these quarrelsome Saivas let me come?" said Azhvarkadiyan pointing to them with his hand.
The Veerashaivas, who had been silent till then, immediately came closer.
"King Brahmathi! This Vaishnava will break our heads! He must be punished appropriately!" one of them began. Others began to talk from head to head.
"I will punish him. You can go," said Aniruthar.
They were not satisfied. "Shouldn't we punish him ourselves? Shave off his front hair, destroy all the emblems of his village, throw him into a well and baptize him..." Someone shouted.
"What did you say?" asked Azhvarkadiyan with fire in his eyes.
Anirutha Brahmarayar then said, "Butter beads! He is a big bully. You cannot punish him. I'll take care of it."
Then he said to the soldiers in the boat that followed him, "Eight of you get down and bring him to our place!"
That's all. The next moment eight soldiers jumped ashore; They surrounded Azhvarkadiyan.
The boat went up.
Azhvarkadiyan went with the soldiers.
The Pattars and others dispersed, talking about the Vaishnava's rudeness.
