BEFORE THE SHADOWS COUNCIL
The council chamber felt charged with palpable tension, like the heavy air before a thunderstorm. Vixen could practically taste the metallic edge of distrust and accusation on her tongue as she strode forward, slamming the incriminating DNA test results down on the polished table with a resonant thump.
"There it is, signore," she growled, emerald eyes blazing with righteous fury. "Proof that lying serpente Mara betrayed us all for her sniveling padre, Lombardi."
A shocked murmur rippled through the assembled Matriarchs, several incredulous gazes swiveling to fix upon Mara. The assassin remained utterly unfazed, inspecting her bloodred talons with studied nonchalance.
"Such preposterous allegations," she purred at last, dripping Vixen with undisguised contempt. "From one prone to delusions and overactive fantasies, no less."
