Chapter 1 - The misfortune of the abyss

"The constant sound of rain filled the air as drops fell tirelessly onto soaked lands. Within a cave lay the body of a below-average-height man with silver hair and green eyes. His figure, malnourished with no trace of muscles or fat, faded into the shadows.

The unsettling feeling of cold and dampness enveloped me; my body seemed to float in emptiness. As consciousness returned, my senses slowly followed suit. A damp and solid ground met my hands, and the sense of smell returned with a putrid odor filling the air.

Vision returned with a stone ceiling. 'Ugh, what pain.' Not a single muscle could move without unbearable pain. Every movement produced the sound of a different bone breaking, as if every part of me was shattering. 'Ugh,' I spat blood on the second attempt to stand. Bewildered and without understanding the situation, I gave up on the idea of standing. This body couldn't endure it; it was like a fragile branch.

["Ding!"]

["Congratulations on being the Abyss's misfortune."]

["For activating the abyss system, they will heal the wounds of that useless, garbage, and worthless body."]

I didn't know whether to feel grateful or insulted, but the idea of having this mobile body was a miracle at this moment. I chose to keep my mouth shut and bit my lip to endure the offense.

Amid the sensation that nothing was changing, I wondered if it was my mind's voices in my last moments. 'I must be imagining things,' but that idea was refuted seconds later. Black energy with green tones surrounded me, like the dance of a beautiful mist woman entering my body. I felt my body cold and carried into a profound sense of infinite peace, a falling sensation where I feared not death."

"After what felt like an eternity of peacefulness I didn't want to escape, I emerged with a new feeling, sensing every part of me; I could move. 'Finally!' I shouted with joy, standing up. Although the dizziness quickly hit me, I could understand what happened. The thing that healed my wounds and body only provided that; my body lacked energy, no food or drink. 'I wish I had something to eat,' I sighed to myself."

"Ding!"

"Abyss Farmer class selected as the first class, based on the host's needs."

"Damn, that sounded important. Don't tell me I messed it up without even knowing?"

Mysterious voice, could you tell me what a class is?

"Classes are magical categories that define your abilities. If you're a mage, you master sorcery; as a witch, you specialize in potions and enchantments; druids connect with nature. Each class has specific roles, magical training, and unique evolution, contributing to magical diversity in society."

["As farmers, you have skills like cultivating a garden, raising livestock, growing plants, and creating seeds."]

"Damn, I knew it, I'm screwed."

["Before saying you're screwed, you should try the skills. You don't even know the situation you're in, and you're already complaining."]

Hearing the voice's complaints, I sighed. I had no idea what situation I was in, I didn't know anything, not even who I was.

"Mysterious voice, could you tell me where I am and who I am? My memories are blurry; just remembering makes my head hurt."

["I have no idea; I had no choice but to enter your body. I'd been exploring the universe for thousands of years in search of an apostle for me, but the intervention of divine monsters made me fall onto a small planet where I found you. You were in that state, and I had no more energy; it was either be with you or disappear."]

"Sighing, I couldn't help but wonder in what kind of situation I was; apparently, a strange entity had assimilated with my body to avoid disappearing, and I was in a state of memory loss."

"So you don't know anything about me either? Well, what can you do?"

["Oh yes, I remember something you said before when I was in a deplorable state. You mentioned something about fragments of time."]

"Fragments of time? Ugh," a strong headache hit me, along with the idea that I had to search for it. I had a feeling those fragments held the answers to my questions, but I didn't know where to start."

"It seems you have problems; I can help you. In return, you'll help me. It's a simple deal, right?"

"Before deciding anything, I'd like to know what helping you implies. If it doesn't benefit me enough, I doubt I'll consider it."

"Oh, come on, don't be so serious. We're both in trouble; I need you, and you need me. I can help you with your problems; if I recover my power, fulfilling or fixing your problems would be a piece of cake."

"And how much time would that be?"

"Well, depending on your performance... a minimum of 50,000 years."

"50,000 years! Humans don't live that long!"

"Do you know that every being can transcend or increase their lifespan? I have the necessary materials; I just need your effort."

"And what would I have to do to recover your energy?"

"Simple, I need you to make the name of the Abyss goddess known, for better or worse, leave an irreplaceable mark on the nine worlds and grow the Faith of the Abyss goddess."

"Wait... Goddess! What are you getting me into?"

["Yes, I am the goddess of the abyss, Alabama. Don't you remember that a few moments ago, I said I was looking for an apostle? What do you think an apostle is?"]

'That arrogant voice of hers is annoying,' I thought, although having the voice of a goddess was annoying, I could still feel great gratitude for healing me, so I decided to let it pass.

"So, an apostle, huh? Let's do it."

["Huh? I thought you'd think about it more. I mean, you don't want to think and consider it; maybe I'm an evil goddess who wants to use you to spread evil."]

"And? I don't care; I just want to fulfill my goal. I don't care about good or evil; if you help me, I'll help you without a doubt. If you tell me to kill, I'll kill: If you tell me to make sacrifices, I'll do it. I only care about myself, as long as you don't ask me to do something outside my moral boundaries, it's fine."

"[...] [Now I'm reconsidering who I'm working with.]"

"Hehehe, thanks."

["That wasn't a compliment."]

"Well, whatever, now how the hell am I going to move? I'm so hungry."

["Now is the perfect time to test your farmer ability."]

["Say Check status"]

'Status,' although I didn't know what it was or what objectives I had, I didn't care, as long as I could get what I wanted.

In front of me appeared a green screen with cracked rocky edges.

[Status]

Name: Sol

Age: (19)

Race: Human F-

Cultivation: Mortal

Class: Farmer

Class Skills: Harvest, Impurity, Sacred Sea, Seeds of the Abyss

Faith Energy: 100

Followers: 0

"A series of patterns, numbers, and letters appeared; I understood everything perfectly, except for the cultivation part, which I would ask about later. I had 100 points of faith energy, and I wasn't sure if it was a lot."

["Nah, it's crap."]

"Huh?" Before I could respond, it replied, "so, can you read minds?"

["Only when you have a question about me or when you want to communicate with me."]

"That's useful. How is the value of faith points measured?"

["Basically, by talent. 100 is below, 1000 is average talent, 10,000 is slightly above average, 100,000 is good talent, 1 million is great talent.]

So basically..."

["Yes, your talent in cultivation is crap."]

I didn't know what to respond at this moment but his voice quickly interrupted.

["Weren't you hungry? Try the Seeds of the Abyss and Sacred Sea abilities. Just think about using them, and they'll appear."]

I extended my hand, thinking about the ability. I felt a strange sensation; a black magic circle with green tones appeared in my palm. Seeds of various colors—red, green, yellow, and blue—emerged. Then, I thought about the other ability; another black magic circle appeared, and a river of black water began to flow. It was strange because it was black; "in theory, sacred things aren't golden or of pure color."

["That applies to sacred things from pure gods. Remember who you're with? With the very goddess of the abyss."]

"Okay, okay, I get it." In truth, her arrogant and proud demeanor didn't sound so bad; With a beautiful and melodic voice it was difficult to sound bad.

["Seeds of the Abyss, do your work."]

The cold, damp floor of the cave transformed before my eyes. The seeds sank into the soil and began to sprout, giving life to plants of vibrant colors. It was as if the darkness surrounding my situation had turned into a magical garden.

["Ding!"]

["Congratulations, you have initiated the cultivation process. Remember that as an abyss farmer, you can not only grow food but also gain magical benefits from your harvests."]

Although my stomach growled with hunger, the sight of the growing garden gave me a sense of accomplishment. However, the voice of the goddess of the abyss interrupted my small celebration.

["At least you're good for something, inept farmer."]

"Inept? Do it yourself if you can, arrogant goddess!" I muttered under my breath, though I doubted she couldn't hear it.

["By the way, Sacred Sea can also purify water. Just think about using the ability but reverse it, and that will provide you with a safe source to drink. Try, Only the abyss can purify the abyss "]

Following her instructions, I reached out to the black water and dared to drink. To my surprise, the liquid had a fresh and pure taste, as if I were drinking the clearest water.

["At least one thing you do right."]

"Yeah, yeah, keep your sarcastic comments," I replied as I focused on my new abilities. Although I was trapped in a strange situation, it seemed that the goddess of the abyss and I were destined to collaborate on this strange journey.
