The cold winter breeze caressed my face as I stood at the door looking out at the neighborhood covered in snow.
"Do I really have to go?" I asked as I followed dad to the car.
"Of course you do. What do you expect to be if you don't get an education?" Dad asked as he dumped my bag in the backseat.
"It's not like I'm gonna live long enough to be something." I mumbled as I entered the car.
"What was that?"
"Nothing. Let's just go."
In a couple of minutes, I stood in front of a massive gate that led to the one places I dreaded the most, school.
"Don't forget to take your meds." Dad hollered as he drove away.
Just hope you don't have to pick a corpse when you come back. I thought as I walked in.
It didn't take long before I reached the hallway leading to the lockers.
"You're looking a bit under the weather, aren't you?" A voice said behind me prompting me to turn.
Before me was the most beautiful girl I had ever met.
With her chestnut brown hair that flowed down her shoulders to her face that flowed with innocence with a touch of mischief, she was everything a man could ask for.
"Hey Sabrina, didn't think I'd find you here." I greeted in mock surprise when he saw her, my gaze lingering on her chest. It's like it got bigger and better every crime I looked at it.
Sabrina's face went red in what I hoped was bashfulness. "My eyes are up here." She grunted in displeasure.
"
My bad....You just keep getting more and more beautiful every time." I said as I peeled my eyes off her glorious rack rather unwillingly.
Sabrina rolled her eyes at my shamelessness *cough* I meant confidence as she chose to ignore my gaze.
"How's it going with James' essay?' Sabrina asked as we walked down the stairs and headed to our lockers.
'Terribly. She wants them tomorrow and I haven't written anything beyond the title.' I said with a sigh as he opened my locker and dumped my books in it.
Sabrina laughed. 'You are by far the most irresponsible guy I know. All you had to do was write a fifty-word essay on the history of Kardia. Even Jake Jefferson handed his in today and he's the dumbest kid in the class.'
'You're done with yours, aren't you?' I asked as I pulled my Chemistry textbook out of my locker.
'Don't even think about it. I'm not saving your ass this time. This is like the twelfth time this happening! What were you even doing yesterday?' She asked as she pulled her Chemistry textbook and closed her locker. I closed my locker, organized my lines and looked to my left, right into Sabrina's eyes.Â
'I'll be honest with you. I did have free time yesterday, I just spent it all thinking about you.' I said with all the seriousness I could muster.Â
'Enough of that. Why can't you be serious for once? This is your education we're talking about….' And that's where I stopped listening and just enjoyed the sweet sound of her voice.
'Are you even listening to me!!' I snapped out of my fantasies of me and Sabrina dancing under a clear night sky with stars twinkling and the full moon shining down on us.
'I definitely am. How couldn't I be listening to you?' I said as I tried to remember what an innocent expression looked like.
'Come on. I promise this will be the last time this is happening.' I begged and before I knew it she had opened her locker, handed me a sheet of paper clearly labeled "ROUGH COPY" while muttering something about a self-entitled no good arrogant bastard, which I'm sure wasn't me.
'This is the last time I'm helping you.' I beamed at her as I gently took the paper from her. 'Thanks Sabrina, I knew I could count on you.'
'It's nothing really.' She said as she turned and walked away. Probably to the Chemistry lab to get a seat next to the window.
I opened my locker, put the paper in and trotted to the Chemistry lab to get a seat next to Sabrina.     Â
After a splendidly boring Chemistry lesson that I'm not in the mood of talking about, it was finally time for me to leave, what with having to go home for my meds and all.Â
Greg picked me up and I climbed into the car. 'Are you ready for us to go, Young Master?'
'Yeah.' I said as I made myself comfortable in the backseat.
The car came to life with a soft purr and Greg drove it out of the school gates.    Â
Greg said nothing further, not like I was complaining. He drove the car at a pace that struck me as comforting, smoothly going down the straightaways. I sank back into the seat as I thought of what I would do once I got home. The winding road was hemmed in on either side by trees only occasionally opening out to reveal the distant glow of house lights. Each building was well back from the road on considerable grounds, and separated by a fair distance from its neighbors. I caught a blurred glimpse of a pair of mammoth stone beasts, lounging on tall plinths, as Greg drove the car through a nearly right-angle turn and onto a long gravel drive, not slowing until the bulk of a building came into sight. Then, he let the car coast to a halt, leaving the engine purring softly and one Russell Dequan very satisfied with his driver's prowess. I climbed out of the car. 'Thanks for the ride.' and with that, I shut the car's door.
'No need to thank me Young Master. I'm just doing my job.' Greg said before driving away. I took a deep breath, cool and pine-scented, and walked towards a pair of massive wooden doors that stood half open, set into a stone façade that wouldn't have looked out of place on a medieval church.
Tall, multi planed windows flanked the doors, and a pair of LED lights at head height provided illumination.
I climbed the stone steps up to the entrance, and walked into along hall. A crimson red carpet ran into the middle distance, and on either hand the walls were adorned with statuary, interspersed with more LED lights.    At the end of the hall, a staircase led up to the second floor. I climbed up the stairs and at the end of them, I set off down the corridor slowly, trailing a hand along the wall. I continued till he reached a door with the name "Russel" in gold letters carved into it.
I opened it to reveal a room with a velvet carpet on the floor, a plush sofa in front of a fifty-five-inch plasma screen TV. Pictures of me and Sabrina adorned the walls. I guess you can picture how luxurious my house was. I tossed my bag on the floor and crossed the room and looked out the glass doors that led to the balcony. I walked through an arched doorway into the bedroom where I undressed and opened the large wooden wardrobe that sat opposite a king sized bed.
What to wear. I thought as I browsed through my options. After a few minutes of searching, I settled for a baggy T-shirt and a pair of boxers.
I'll just shut my eyes for a few seconds then I'll do the aaaaahh~ and before I knew it, I drifted off into a dreamless sleep.       Â
I awoke with a start and quickly looked outside the window across the room.
It was dark outside and the dogs kept barking loudly.
What's the problem this time? I thought as I left my room.
I walked through the corridor and quickly made my way down the stairs.
I walked towards the huge wooden doors, punched a code onto the screen beside them and yanked one of them open.
'WHO'S THERE?'Â I walked around the house and was greeted by quite the scenery in the backyard.
There, on the top of a demolished fountain, was a man. He was in armor that looked like it came straight out of a sci-fi movie.    Â
'WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?' I asked as I approached the strange man.
'@#$%^^^**))0' the "man" said with a wince. I couldn't comprehend what the guy was saying but that didn't mean I couldn't understand what I was seeing, a real live alien in my backyard.     Â
As I came closer, I noticed that the "man" had faint blue scales at the edges of his face.
The "man" had blue irises with slit pupils and his hair was silvery blue. The guy twisted something on his neck brace and spoke in English 'Come here' he said as he checked in his utility belt or whatever for something.
I, completely captivated by the "man's" appearance(don't take this the wrong way), approached him.
The guy pulled a thumb-sized rock out of the utility belt and held it out to me.
'Take it.' The guy said before wincing as he clutched his left side. I stood still in shock as I looked at the glowing rock.
Okay. Calm down. It's all just one of your weird dreams. You'll wake up soon and be back in your sweet comfortable bed.
'Are you ignoring a dying man's last request? I thought it was the dream of every human child to meet an alien. Look I don't have much time so just take the damn thing and let me die in peace.' The guy said hoarsely as he held out the rock. I felt like shedding tears when he said those words...what with me being a dying man as well.
It's all just a dream so let me just do this guy a favor and take his rock. Maybe it will make this dream more interesting. I thought as I slowly walked towards the man and took the rock.
Doesn't this feel a little too real. This rock is so smooth.
'I think it would be a good idea to step back a little.' The alien guy said as he pressed something beneath his breastplate. I, all too familiar with the warning, took a few steps back and watched as the guy's armor glowed with a blinding white light.
Bastard's blowing himself up.
I thought as I ran as fast as I could. The guy's armor shone even more intensely to the point that the guy wearing it couldn't be seen.
I looked back at the blinding light with squinted eyes and saw the light extend outwards before imploding. Everything in a five metre radius around the light was sucked into a pin point of light and vanished. I stood there shocked as I stared at the perfectly circular crater in the backyard.
Dad's gonna kill me.
