Chapter 1 - IN THE LONE TOWER

In a prosperous kingdom, there was a tower that stood alone in the dark forest. A girl, a pitiful one was imprisoned in the highest place in the said tower. Inside the tower was a dry and desolate cell.

Inside the cell was a dirty bowl filled with water. A few rats were squirming around the jail cell and no lights could shine through the cell.

The one who was trapped in darkness was a girl. She had long hair and her bangs covered all her eyes. Her once luscious dark blue hair became as rough as wild grasses and her once sapphire blue eyes had faded.

Her hands and legs are cuffed to the wall and floor making her unable to move.

No life left was found in her eyes.

Ah....

I made a mistake..

***

She looked down at the dirty cobblestone floor. She realized that every effort she put in was futile.

Creak...

The only door to the was opened. Light shone through the lonely cell.

Two people came into the cell, side by side.

A soft and smooth voice rang.

"Oh, dear."

There was a sudden pause and she continued. "Are you okay?"

She was none other than the beautiful and sweet girl, Mirabelle de Cliotte. She had honey-blonde hair and beautiful pink eyes that resembled a jewel. Now, she was the most powerful woman in the entire continent.

However, the sweet moment was interrupted by a cold voice.

Filled with disdain.

"You don't need to be concerned about her."

His eyes looked colder by the second. He was looking as if the pitiful trapped girl was something lower than trash.

"She attempted to kill you! She wanted to steal your powers!"

He held Mirabelle's shoulders with his hands as he was pleading for mercy. He looked like an obedient puppy in front of Mirabelle.

"She doesn't deserve your pity!"

He had pale soft blue hair and soft blue eyes. He was a very loyal, loyal dog towards Mirabelle. Compared to his contempt gaze, Mirabelle was filled with a gentle and kind smile. She looked at the pitiful one with "sympathy".

She put her hand on her chest and looked at her "loyal dog".

"But.. but, I still regarded her as my sister."

A sign of nervousness was shown on her face. All her body screamed unsure.

"Even… even if.. even if she didn't see me as her "family", I still love her as one."

Everything was perfect.

From her expression to her body language. She embodied a graceful and perfect sister who cared for the pitiful one.

An illustrious, kind saint.

She, who was regarded as innocent and pure, shed tears for her "sister" as small tears started to form in the corner of her eyes. She pleadingly begged her puppy.

"So, please… spare her…"

The only sentence that came out of her "loyal" dog's mouth was, "I'll try."

Mirabelle's face became happier and brighter. Her plea would be under her dog's consideration. Then, he pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes. He sighed out of exasperation. "Guards, please escort her."

Two guards properly escorted Mirabelle and left the room.

BANG!

The door closed and both the man and the pitiful one were left in the dark and gloomy room. From the very start, aside from loving his "owner", the man looked at the pitiful one with an empty glare.

He put his hand between the cell bars and held her chin. He made the pitiful one's head look at his polished face.

"Look at you. You became a dirty wh*re, didn't you?"

"..."

"Shameless! I guess you do deserve to have no tongue." He continued. "After all, all you can do is insult others with such a filthy mouth."

The pitiful one could do nothing but stay silent. She looked right at his soft blue eyes. In an instant, she was reminded of her foolishness.

She never demanded for his love.

Not even once.

All she wanted to do was to live a happy life. She could let him love Mirabelle even if that meant she would remain alone in her life.

(Ahahaha…)

(Hahaha… You've got to be kidding me.)

(You're still the same as ever.)

She frowned as sarcasm was found on her face.

She wanted to mock him badly.

Sadly, she no longer could speak.

Looking at the pitiful one's face, the man became frustrated. He pulled her collar to the cell bar.

"I don't see why you should live."

Now that his beloved owner left, the man started to treat the pitiful one roughly.

"Compared to you, Mirabelle is a hundred times kinder and better than you."

He began to compare Mirabelle and the pitiful one and continued to make her fall into eternal despair. He was so enthusiastic about bringing her down to her last worth before her final death.

He ended his long and wide insults with, "You're not getting out of here alive. After all, Mirabelle is too kind."

Bang!

He slammed the door and left the gloomy place.

The room was now silent once again.

***

A few hours passed… and for the pitiful one, it felt like it had been a day.

Bang.

The only door to the cells opened once again.

There stood two guards holding a crippled girl with both of their hands.

Side-by-side.

The crippled girl was struggling, trying to break free from the guards' grasp. Her action made one of the guards pissed.

"Stop moving, you traitor!"

The crippled became angry at the guard's complaint and directed her anger at the pitiful one. The guards threw her into one of the cells.

It was to the pitiful one's left.

A guard immediately locked the cell door and looked at the crippled girl with a disdainful look. Both of them left the three cells locked and closed the door, the only source of light.

"So, how does it feel to stay in jail?"

The crippled girl mocked the pitiful one haughtily in an attempt to provoke her.

Her smile was filled with contempt. However, to her expectation, the pitiful one did not respond to her provocation.

Thus, she continued, "Dear sister..?"

She smiled sinisterly at the pitiful one. The crippled girl was none other than the pitiful one's stepsister, Raire de Eaux. She was once one of the most respectable ladies in this kingdom. Now, she was one of the most treacherous traitors in this kingdom.

Raire hated her stepsister to the core. She hated her because of the huge amount of comparison between her stepsister and herself.

Raire's hatred was beginning to grow as she didn't like to be ignored by another person. She had many kinds of inferiority complexes.

The comparison was one of them. The other was the fact that she was a respectable lady. She wanted to be praised and respected. And not knowing that Seira had lost her tongue, she became enraged.

"What? Is it so hard to respond to your own sister?!"

"Don't ignore me!"

The pitiful one who was fed with her complaints decided to move her body to the left and opened her mouth. There, Raire saw, her stepsister's tongue had been cut off. Raire who saw the severed tongue was taken aback and spooked by the truth.

It wasn't her stepsister ignoring her, but she didn't have the ability to speak.

Raire was flabbergasted.

As an attempt to recover from her speechlessness, she continued her own sentence, "Even after you live in a jail for a week, you will still be executed in front of thousands of people gathered today!"

The pitiful one continued her sister's sentence in her mind.

(And be condemned as one of the worst villainesses to ever exist in history.)

(I will become the public enemy, the villains in fairy tales. And in time, I will fade as another part of history.)

It's ironically pitiful…

How stupid of me.
