Chapter 34

Amelia and the Witch

Amelia's POV

I walked out of the gathering, my heart ached as I felt Gerald's pain. The whole pack had pounced on him for a crime he never committed. The witches had attacked the pack and strangled a life. How was that his fault? He's just an Alpha and not their special guard.

As I walked back to the mansion, I made sure to follow a path different from the usual path I knew Gerald would follow. I had avoided him throughout the gathering, I watched him from afar as he stood there defenseless and looked weak before the entire pack.

The once ruthless Alpha felt weak and defeated, though I was marveled, my heart melted as I pierced into his eyes. The pain in his eyes mellowed my heart and drew me near tears.

I looked away as I couldn't take the pain anymore. Why do I feel so sorry for him? Why do I feel so attached to him? Those questions lingered in my mind but got no answers.

Not minding the way he treated me– so cruel and with contempt. I still feel connected to him. A spark in the inner part of my soul.

My footsteps echoed on the bare floor, my foot made a rustling sound on the leaves in the forest.

I knew I had to reach home before Gerald did - it was crucial, for reasons I couldn't quite put into words. His strength and anger seemed to emanate whenever he saw me–Maybe I reminded him of my father and his mischief.

I never wanted his unbearing rage to haunt me again. Those memories remained in my head and I could never forget them. I could almost hear his sharp and unforgiving voice yelling my name.

"Amelia! Who permitted you to be out here, huh?"

But then, I was lucky he never saw me. I was smart enough to leave before everyone else.

As I finally reached the familiar doorstep, I exhaled a shaky breath, my knuckles rapping urgently on the wooden door.

I stood there, breathless and desperate, hoping against hope that I had made it on time, that I had escaped the looming trouble awaiting me at his court.

My breath hung as a guard moved towards me. His gaze fixed on me as though he was sent to get me.

My breath came in short gasps as the guard moved closer and closer towards me. Did he notice my presence at the meeting? Was he going to punish me for my mischief?

"Have you seen The Alpha?"

"N. no. Not at all," I answered, my voice shivering as I struggled to stay still. I was waiting for his next words, an anticipation that made me fix my gaze on him. My heart pounded in my chest.

As I stood there, still anticipating his next line of action, he walked past me with a heavy step as I exhaled heavily.

I turned as I watched him walk down and then faded in my sight.

**

As I walked down the hallway, I noticed an unusual calmness and solemnity. Not even a single soul walked past, it was just the sound of my shoes resounding on the floor.

I slowed my step, my eyes widened, and darted around my surroundings as the serenity increased with each approaching step in the darkness.

"It's scary here," I whispered, my heart pounded, and my eyes widened in anxiety as I walked.

Just then I heard a troubling horrific sound behind me, I turned quickly with my eyes wide open and my breath heavy.

"What's that sound,"

As I turned to leave, the sound came again, making me still in place.

A cold shiver traced its way down my spine, each inch a stepping stone for my mounting dread. I cast a quick, sneaky glance over my shoulder, but found nothing. I exhaled, then continued with my walk.

"Get over it, Amelia. You're just imagining things."

But as the noise persisted, it was now clear enough to distinguish it as a low, throaty murmur.

It ebbed and flowed like the tide, rising in volume only to decrease again, getting me more agitated and frightened.

My breathing grew shallow– quick gasps that barely filled my lungs.

Just when I thought I might collapse under the weight of my fear, as my heartbeat increased, my eyes widened in anxiety.

The noise shifted a bit, this time, it was a spine-chilling moan that echoed and tingled in my ear.

As I drifted my gaze from the source of the noise, an attempt to run away from my fears. The sight before me made me shiver in shock, my breath hung in the air and my eyes wide open. I saw a faint light, peeking from beneath a door at the end of the hallway.

"What's that?" I whispered sharply. My legs propelled me slowly towards the direction of the light.

Though I was scared, a mysterious force compelled me to the faint light. Was it something fetish? How did it get there? Is it something harmful?

My trembling hand reached out, grasping the chill door knob. I hesitated for a moment before twisting it slowly, the creaking sound of the hinges paved the way to the secluded space.

Then I quickly jammed the door, and the courage to lodge inside left me. I paused for a while, my hands gripping the doorknob as I considered the consequences of what I was about to do. What if it was a trap?

Suddenly, as though I was gripped by my external force, I pushed the door open and stepped into the enigmatic glow that both promised answers and threatened even greater mysteries beyond.

My eyes darted through the room but found nothing. I said it, my mind was playing a prank on me. I heaved a sigh of relief, feeling more relaxed as my shoulder sagged.

Just as I was about to turn and leave, I felt a tight grip on my neck. A strange force that held me firmly, trying to strangle me.

I could feel the strange creature's draw digging into my skin as I struggled against his grip. I waved my hands, and my body wriggled as I tapped my foot on the ground but its grip was so firm.

"I'll have your blood today, Amelia!"

"Let go of me, you witch," I managed to choke out, but yet, its grip became stronger. It growled at the sound of my voice, its fingers rugged deep on my skin, causing a blister at the spot.

I kept on struggling to free myself, all my life as a warrior in my father's pack, I've not battled with such a force.

I was convinced it was a witch, it was my first time experiencing their attack. I felt primal energy emanating from the creature, weakening my bones and muscles as I struggled for my breath. Its exhaled air was warm against my skin.

With my last strength, I wiggled my body one more time, as I kicked against his jaw, shifting it slightly. He yelled in pain as his grip on me loosened, giving me the leverage to liberate myself from his grip.

"You little brat!" I heard him shout as I turned quickly to face him.

I was startled by the crasrute before me, for a while I shivered as I tried to get a grip of myself. I imagined myself being gripped by the ugly creature that stood before me. The thought of its grip cringed my skin and gave me goosebumps.

"You think you're stubborn, huh? Watch me destroy you!" It said as it disappeared from my sight in a twinkle of an eye.

I darted my gaze around but found no trace of it. I exhaled heavily. It must be a coward to have given up so easily. I was ready for more challenges, my senses were alert and my arms were ready to attack.

But then, my shoulder sagged as I lodged forward. Unaware of the danger ahead, I felt free as I walked down, a bit of satisfaction and pride crept into my soul. I just challenged and won against a witch. A powerful creature that was capable of destroying a wolf in a twinkle of an eye.

My heart flew out of my chest the moment I heard a similar noise I had heard earlier behind me. I turned quickly but then I was met with the familiar face of the witch.

It wasted no time in gripping my neck, his crawls digging into my skin as I struggled to breathe.

"I told you I'll destroy you, little brat!"

He gave out a wicked grin, his dangerous mockery laughter filled the entire space.

"You never knew I'll be back soon, huh?" He said as he pressed deeply into my neck.

I couldn't utter any more words as I struggled to keep alive. I felt life leaving me as blood gushed out from my neck. I couldn't fight anymore, my muscles were weak, and my bones were handicapped.
