The next day, Maya woke up feeling refreshed and excited. She didn't know why, but she felt like the morning sun was shining brightly because it was smiling at her. She was the first to wake up in the house, and she went into the kitchen to prepare breakfast for everyone.
Old Bat woke up when she heard movement inside the kitchen. She entered the kitchen only to see Maya humming a song only she understood as she moved her waist happily getting breakfast ready.
"My favorite mama," Maya called out when she saw Old Bat, throwing her arms around the woman's neck. "Good morning."
Old Bat narrowed her eyes at the girl. It was the first time Maya had openly acknowledged her as a mother. When Maya moved away, Old Bat took a cup and poured herself some water, drinking while looking at Maya from the rim of the cup.
