"Who's dying, and who's that man, Selina?"
Selina jumped at the startling voice from behind her. She quickly turned to find Jeremy standing there, his expression a mixture of concern and irritation. She sighed, thanking the God she served that it wasn't Aaron.
"It's nothing. Why are you out of bed?" She tried to sound nonchalant, but her heart raced, and the tremor in her voice betrayed her nervousness. She wondered how much he had heard and what he was even doing on this floor at such an hour.
"Why's Silverstein dying?" Jeremy marched toward her, each step resonating with urgency. Selina instinctively took a few steps back, steadying herself against the doorframe.
"I told you it's nothing. Go back to bed." She attempted to brush past him, reaching for the doorknob, but he gently turned her around, pushing her back against the door. The sound was subdued, but Selina knew that if it had been louder, it would surely rouse Aaron.
