Alexandra had just opened her book when the bathroom door creaked open. She glanced up, startled, and saw him stepping into the bedroom. "You're done already?" she murmured, raising an eyebrow. That was quick, she thought as she snapped the book shut and carefully slid it back onto the shelf. She moved toward him, stopping just an arm's length away.
"Mmm. What were you reading?" Silverstein asked, his gaze briefly flicking toward the bookshelf. One book stood slightly out of place. His eyes narrowed for a split second, but he quickly masked his suspicion with a relaxed expression.
"I haven't read it yet," she replied, her voice smooth, though she felt his eyes linger on her face as if he could sense she was hiding something.
