Bebe chuckled briefly. "And you'd know?"
Zeldris left his hand on her head. "Well, my mom used to tell me of her older sister who was supposed to be an Alpha, but saw it as a hassle and dropped it."
His expression changed as he remembered.
Bebe looked away, ignoring his hand on her head. "She didn't have anything to lose."
"She did. She lost the pack. The people were conquered. Her younger sister, my mother, was given to a witch as a student but is now dead. My aunt is dead too and her daughter is still missing. So yeah, she lost a lot."
Bebe raised a brow. Then why did the lady even leave?
"My point is," Zeldris finally dropped his hand from her head. "At least, you're trying to protect them. Just keep trying and you would someday. Many don't try."
That was oddly encouraging. "Thanks." Bebe shrugged. "I guess." Zeldris frowned. The last part was uncalled for.
