Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

Yvonne turned around abruptly, her eyes widening as she saw Javier walking towards her. The night was exceptionally quiet and still, as if everything were momentarily hushed and holding his breath. Even Helen took a step back, feeling tension in the air.

"How....do you know I am here?" Yvonne questioned.

Javier, undeterred, roughly took her hand and led her towards the waiting car. As soon as Dennis saw he was bringing her to the car, he got out of the car.

"Do you think I won't recognize what your plans are?"

"You already know, so why do you pretend to not know?" Yvonne questioned.

"I have to play you by your game." Javier replied.

It was not what she was envisioning. How can he find out just as she is about to leave this place? Will she never leave?

Yvonne felt the struggle intensify as he held her tightly in the confines of the car. "Let me go."

"Stop moving. I don't want to hurt you," he asserted, his grip firm. "Dennis, come over here."

"Yes, I am coming." Dennis responded, his voice echoing.

"You are already hurting me," Yvonne uttered. Her voice was a mix of pain and desperation.

Javier released his grip on her hand.

"I would rather die than go back there," she declared, her eyes filled with defiance.

Dennis observed the tense exchange through the rearview mirror, the reflection capturing the intensity of the moment.

"I thought you said you hate people who commit suicide, so why are you doing what you despise?" Javier questioned, his gaze fixed on Yvonne.

"Did I say I was going to commit suicide?" Yvonne countered.

"Is that not what you implied?" Javier pressed.

Yvonne didn't say anything and decided to keep quiet. She was thinking about what she could do to leave again, but this time around, there is nothing she can do other than do what Helen said before.

Dennis perhaps sensing the need for a change of atmosphere, checked his phone and cleared his throat.

"Should I take you guys home, or do you want to go somewhere to cool down?" he asked.

"Take us home." Javier replied, his tone firm.

"But what about her?" Dennis questioned, pointing towards Helen.

"Let her find her way home herself."

What? How can she forget Helen? She promised Helen to protect her, and now is the time to do so.

She will think about things later.

"Let her come with us." Yvone insisted. "It is late."

"I am done being nice. Wasn't it the same thing that made Nadia get stuck to me and make my life a living hell?" Javier's words hung in the air, leaving Yvonne with a sense of confusion and distress.

What did he mean? Did Nadia have feelings for him? And was that somehow connected to her suicide? But still, how could he have implied that Helen might like him? That is unacceptable.

"Helen is my friend, and don't think you are so handsome that every girl will like you," Yvonne interjected, a mixture of anger and defense in her voice.

"Nadia was also your sister's friend, and that doesn't stop her. I don't want history to repeat itself," Javier declared.

He looked at Dennis and told him to drive.

"They did not take you along," the boat driver remarked to Helen.

"Yeah, I was expecting that, but by tomorrow things will change," she responded.

"What do you mean?" the boat driver inquired, curiosity etched on his face.

"You will know tomorrow," she stated as she left the place.

Meanwhile, Yvonne and Javier arrived home. Yvonne went to her room and lay down on her bed.

Dennis stepped outside to take a call and returned with news.

"I just received a call from one of the scouts that Nadia's father has gone crazy," he revealed.

"He has gone crazy? How?" Javier inquired.

It was hard to believe someone like him would go crazy. He didn't go crazy when his daughter died, so how come he went crazy?

"I don't know." Dennis admitted.

Javier, deep in thought, placed his hand on his waist and gazed towards Yvonne's room. After a moment, he turned his attention back to Dennis.

"I think I will have to go to see if he is crazy or not." Javier sighed. "I will leave Yvonne to you; right now you are the only one I trust."

"You don't need to worry; I will take very good care of her." Dennis asssured.

Javier touched Dennis's shoulder in acknowledgement and left the house.

While Yvonne was in her room, she sat up in the bed as she heard the door close. Has Javier left, or was it that guy? She opened the window and saw that it was Javier. She knows she is probably not alone, but with Dennis.

Something about him makes Yvonne uncomfortable, and she can't pinpoint why. She was about to call Jenna when Dennis entered without knocking.

"Why are you here?" she questioned.

"There is something I want to tell you," Dennis replied, seemingly not concerned as he moved to sit on Yvonne's bed.

"Don't sit on my bed," she asserted, her discomfort evident.

He stood up, complying with her request. "Well, do you remember me?"

"Remember you? Do I know you before?" Yvonne asked, her confusion apparent.

"I was the guy that you gave a napkin to at my father's funeral."

Father's funeral? Yvonne struggled to recall.

"Well, I can't remember," she admitted.

Dennis approached her, prompting Yvonne to push him away. His response was oddly calm.

"It is alright to not remember. I'm not expecting you to. It was a brief encounter, but that encounter made me fall in love with you."

Yvonne felt a wave of discomfort and dizziness.

"Well, I don't know what to say," she stammered.

"All you have to say is 'you love me too' and I promise you I will take you out of here and you won't get hurt." Dennis asserted.
