Chapter 1 - The Awakening

Dear Reader, have you ever witnessed the astonishing sight of a person miraculously returning to life after being declared dead? The very notion of such a phenomenon might leave you questioning the boundaries of reality. Perhaps you find yourself sceptical, or maybe this concept is entirely new to you. Fear not, for I, Orenda Ashoka, stand before you now to unravel the extraordinary tale that unfolded within the pages of my existence.

Allow me to set the stage for you, dear Reader. The tale I'm about to recount was not originally penned by my own hand. Another author had beautifully woven the threads of my story, their words breathing life into my experiences. But alas, inexplicably and without warning, this author abandoned their creation, leaving me in a state of perpetual darkness.

You see, my story began with a group of classmates who revealed their true colours in the most sinister of ways. They decided to rid the world of my presence by means of a dastardly poison, intending to bring about my untimely demise. Little did they know, this would be the catalyst that led to the most extraordinary journey of my life.

But I digress; As the poison coursed through my veins, my body grew frail, my breath shallow. Darkness descended upon my world, and my classmates revealed in the satisfaction of their presumed victory. They left me discarded and lifeless, deceived by their own delusions of my demise.

However, it was in this darkest hour that the improbable transpired. Life surged back within me, defying the laws of nature and confounding the most learned scholars. It appears that death, in its attempt to claim me, had only served to unlock a hidden power within.

"Ouch!" I exclaimed as I found myself sprawled on the floor once again. The voice of my training partner echoed in my ears, repeating her disappointment, "Again."

Strangely enough, I couldn't recall how I had come to know her. It felt as if our meeting had been a mere chance encounter. I vividly remember that day—I was on my way to school when I unexpectedly collided with her. Instinctively, I reached out to offer assistance and introduce myself, but to my surprise, she swiftly fled the scene.

Curiosity consumed me, and I began inquiring about her from others. However, the responses were vague and inconclusive. It was as if no one had any recollection of her existence, as if she were a mere figment of my imagination.

Yet, one fateful night, while alone in my bedroom, I thought I caught a glimpse of her. It could have been a trick of the mind, but I distinctly heard her calling my name—"Orenda, you must exercise caution in choosing your acquaintances." The words lingered in my ears, leaving me bewildered and uncertain.

Dear reader, these are the fragments of my perplexing tale. I find myself caught between the realms of the living and the dead, unsure of the boundaries that define my existence.

As I strolled through the bustling halls of the school, accompanied by my best friend, Onska, her question caught me off guard. "Where have you been these past few days?" she inquired, her eyes filled with genuine curiosity. Perplexed, I gazed back at her, for I distinctly recalled retiring to our shared dormitory each night.

Confusion clouded my thoughts as I responded, "I returned from my night classes, but I didn't see you. However, when I turned my back, there you were." Her bewildered expression merged with mine, as if mirrored confusion intertwined our souls.

With an air of disbelief, she replied, "No, I was fast asleep the entire time. I assure you." The gravity of the situation began to sink in, and a serious expression etched itself upon my face. I looked deep into her eyes and uttered, "Could it be that you were sleepwalking?" The words hung in the air, tinged with uncertainty and a flicker of fear.

Onska's response was resolute, "No, I wasn't sleepwalking. I have no recollection of leaving our dormitory during those nights." A sense of foreboding crept over us, drawing us deeper into the enigmatic web that seemed to entangle our lives.

Dear reader, as the mystery unfolds, I am left grappling with the duality of my existence. Between encounters with a mysterious stranger and the inexplicable nighttime wanderings of my closest companion, the boundaries between reality and illusion blur, leaving me to question the very essence of my being.
