Chapter 2 - The Operation

The vapors from her warm breath flowed out in the frigid air. Dried brownish blood stained the ground all around her. The fire burning a village hut, illuminated her scowling face.

The trembling villager attempted to crawl away from her, clawing at the ground in desperation.

She cackled at the villager.

He begged in a whiny voice which annoyed her. "P-please don't—"

The man didn't finish his sentence. He slumped on the ground, with a huge gaping hole in his chest. His blood started to pool around her feet forming running streams of crimson red. She held up his heart in her bloodied hand and admired her handiwork.

"OMEGA!" The swift kick from her brother was enough to wake her up. Grumbling, the young demon sat up. "What, Sigrid?" she said tiredly, rubbing her eyes. "Father wants us to begin Operation Infiltration." Her brother, Sigrid, stared down at her. "You know what the plan is. You're crucial."

Yeah, Crucial to be murdered. Omega thought, getting up from the ground. But she obeyed, following her brother out of the cave that she'd been living in. For the past six months, Omega has been training. Not to become stronger, though. Since she seemingly had no Demon abilities, her family considered her basically useless, so she'd long since given up hope on that dream. Instead, Graat, her father, had decided that her only use was to do something in some other way. So instead, Omega has been training to stoop so low as to become an imitation of one of the nomadic demons. The lowest of the low. Regrettably, however, this was the one time she actually succeeded in something the Graat family had thrown at her, so she now could fit flawlessly into the 'feral' role that she'd been assigned.

The Plan? Sell her into human slavery. She'd infiltrate the walled city of Anmoranth, find the weakest point in the city's defenses, and leak it to her family outside of the walls, who would attack via the weak point, therefore dealing the first blow to humanity.

Sigrid looked at her with disgust, and Omega made a mental note to rectify the arch in her back. Then out of nowhere, Sigrid grabbed her wrists and clapped cuffs onto them. Is this to test my strength? She thought. Ha! Sigrid, you jest! No chains can keep me bound! But, trying as hard as possible, she couldn't break free.

Sigrid looked on disapprovingly. "And this is why you're the feral decoy." he sighed.

{-}

This was the first time Omega had been in a city before, and she hated it. So many people she could rip the throats out of, and yet she could do nothing about it because her hands were behind her back. She made an attempt to bite a woman's arm, but Sigrid pulled her away. She winced in pain as she glared at her brother, who paid her no mind. She just knew he was straining himself as well, but one thing set the two of them apart. Patience. Omega sucked at it. And Sigrid, well, look at him! The woman she'd tried to bit backed away in fear, but Sigrid smiled warmly at the woman, and she was calmed. Annoyed at her failed attempt, Omega tried to break free of Sigrid's grasp, which showed more of her devolvement into her now instinctive 'feral demon' personality.

Everyone was avoiding her now, which proved that indeed, the good citizens of Anmoranth could clearly see that she was in fact a demon. She smiled cruelly, looking around at the bustling crowd of people. A mother with her two children, a young adventurer in red and black armor. Someday I'm gonna eat these people. She thought wickedly. The walls will crash and they will all succumb to the House of Graat!

Her thoughts were interrupted because someone tripped her in the middle of the street as they were crossing it. Falling to the ground and rolling over, she looked up at the legs of all of the people, clearing the way seemingly because of her. She was so focused on getting up that she never saw who stepped- no, stomped- on her hand. Howling in pain, she tried to get up, but whatever it was wouldn't budge. She couldn't bite it because her hands were behind her, meaning she couldn't twist around to whatever was behind her, on her hand. Thrashing about, she didn't even see who it was until he stepped on her head. She heard the people whispering under their breaths.

"Is that Prince Nathan?"

"No way it's actually him."

"Oh, it's him all right, I'd recognize the face of royalty anywhere."

All this talk about princes is making my head ache. Omega thought. That and whoever's standing on it. Ow! She couldn't even feel her hand now.

"Piece of filth." a male voice said above her. She strained to look up, and even when she did, she couldn't see him. "All you demons are the same. You, in particular, reek like pig feces."

She felt insulted, mainly because she had NOT rolled in pig feces to obtain her aura. She just apparently smelled like that, to this human! She looked at Sigrid, who'd finally come to her aid. Or so she'd hoped. Sigrid just looked down at her in disgust. Not hard to do. His Demon ability was the ability to turn Human. No demon horns, no aura, nothing showed on Sigrid, and acting like he was disgusted at Omega wasn't that hard to do, because he probably was disgusted with her. "Well look at that!" Sigrid said with a painfully obvious false pleasant expression across his face. "It seems as though you've found her!"

"Found who?" the supposed prince said. He sounded confused.

"Why, the demon that's been terrorizing the nearby villages for the past few months. I managed to catch her before she destroyed a fourth one." Sigrid responded deviously, although the statement was completely factual. Omega had come across a few villages during her feral demon rampage, and may or may not have destroyed one or two. Indeed, she had been caught, and was going to be run through the heart with a stake before Sigrid had come to her rescue in the nick of time, eliminating the entire village. Ah, Sigrid truly was the best candidate to be the House of Graat's heir!

"What were you expecting to do with it, bringing the damned thing here!?" the Prince roared in anger, kicking Omega in the skull. She winced, but said nothing. "I was going to turn her in for a reward at the adventurers guild." Sigrid said. Probably a lie. She had no idea of most of the plan.

The Prince cleared his throat. "Well." he said in the most dignified way he could. "I'll take the brat off you hands for... how about one gold piece. Sounds fair?"

Omega blinked. Is he really offering to buy me? Already? This could either be the best thing for Operation Infiltration, she thought, Then a vision of herself being impaled at the stake ran through her head. Or the worst thing ever. She shuddered. she didn't have long to think about it though. "Sounds like we have ourselves a deal." Sigrid said.

The Prince pulled out a gold coin and tossed it to Sigrid. He caught it and grinned at the Prince. "Pleasure doing business with you." he said, staring down at Omega's helpless body. "The pleasure's all mine." The Prince said, grabbing her and hoisting her to her feet. "Come on you witch." He said to her. She obeyed, although there wasn't much she could do. Though she was scared out of her demon skin, something within her was telling her to be excited. Omega, the Demon Princess, was now under the eyes of Royalty.

The first phase of Operation Infiltration was underway.
