Chapter 1 - whispers in the wall

[ Primary Plot ]

"CHANELLE, CHANELLE" one of the maids was yelling as she was entering Ms. chanelle's room

"what" chanelle replied calmly to the maid with no expressions on her face looking as cold as ever

Evelyn (the maid) replied with a tone of worry yet trying to deliver the heavy news she has, saying "the king commanded the death of Mr. Jasper" Evelyn said looking intensively at chanelle waiting for chanelle's response

"What? Death?" Said chanelle with a little chuckle

"Yes, like cutting his head off" Evelyn replied looking surprised that Chanelle couldn't careless about the news, knowing that Mr. Jasper was Chanelle's private teacher for almost a decade

"I wonder what did Mr. Jasper do to deserve death" Chanelle said maintaining her calm aura

"I wonder that too, it looks like he did something really vicious"

Suddenly the door opened revealing a middle aged man with a figure of grace that was none other than the butler, "Pardon me your highness" he said bowing to Chanelle as she nodded to him politely

"Ms Evelyn you seem to be unaware of your schedules today, someone will be punished, and we don't want that, do we?" the butler said lowering his gaze

Evelyn gasped with her eyes wide open "I'm sorry sir" she said bowing quickly to Chanelle and leaving the room

Before the butler could follow Evelyn, Chanelle spoke to him

"Mr. Franklin" she said in a dry tone

"Yes your highness" he replied turning his direction to her trying to lower his gaze and not make any kind of eye contact with her

"Do you know why Mr. Jasper was sentenced to death?" She asked with curiosity

"I'm sorry your highness, I might not have the answer for that" The butler replied to Chanelle, without saying anything she nodded her head gesturing him to leave.

[ Secondary plot ]

Mr. Jasper stood with a firm resolve in the grand chamber, facing the imposing figure of King Nathaniel. His eyes held a mix of defiance and desperation as he spoke.

"I swear, Your Majesty, I am no spy!" Mr. Jasper's voice echoed in the vast hall.

King Nathaniel, seated on his ornate throne, regarded Mr. Jasper with a steely gaze. "Your claims are futile, Mr. Jasper. Evidence against you is overwhelming."

"But I've served faithfully for years," Mr. Jasper pleaded, his voice cracking with emotion. "I've dedicated my life to Her Highness and this kingdom. How can you accuse me of treachery?

"The king's expression remained unmoved. "We have uncovered correspondence with a neighboring kingdom. Secrets exchanged under the cloak of night.

"Mr. Jasper's hands trembled slightly. "I've written no such letters! They're fabrications to frame me!"

"Fabrications?" King Nathaniel's tone turned colder. "You dare accuse this court of deceit?"

"I merely seek justice, Your Majesty," Mr. Jasper implored, his desperation growing palpable. "I've been loyal, and I implore you to reconsider this grave judgment.

"The king rose from his throne, his imposing presence casting a shadow over the chamber. "You've spoken your piece. Justice has been rendered."

Later that evening, Chanelle sat by the window in her room, the fading sunlight casting shadows across the chamber. Her thoughts lingered on the unsettling news of Mr. Jasper's fate. Determined to uncover the truth, she sought information from sources within the palace.

In the quiet of the night, Chanelle made her way through the dimly lit corridors, guided by a flickering candle. She approached the door of the royal archives, hoping to find answers amidst the ancient tomes and scrolls housed within.

With a careful hand, she pushed the heavy door open, revealing shelves lined with volumes of history and secrets. She began her search, scanning through records and papers meticulously.

Amidst the stacks of documents, she stumbled upon a parchment with an official seal—a transcript of the encounter between Mr. Jasper and the king. As she read through the lines, her heart sank with each revelation.

The transcript detailed Mr. Jasper's fervent denial of being a spy, pleading for justice and professing his unwavering loyalty. It also contained the king's firm conviction of Mr. Jasper's guilt, citing intercepted correspondence with a neighboring kingdom as evidence.

Chanelle's hands trembled as she continued to read, piecing together the circumstances that led to Mr. Jasper's unfortunate fate. She realized the severity of the accusations against him and the conviction of his guilt in the eyes of the court.

The truth she sought was more distressing than she had anticipated. Her private teacher, accused and condemned, faced a fate she couldn't reconcile with the man she knew.

The next morning, sunlight streamed through the windows of Chanelle's room, casting a warm glow across the chamber. She was engrossed in a book when a gentle knock echoed through the door.

"Your Highness, your family requests your presence for breakfast," Evelyn's voice carried through the heavy wooden door.

Chanelle closed her book, her expression unreadable. "Tell them I'm not hungry," she replied softly, her voice barely audible.

Evelyn hesitated, sensing the underlying tension. "But, Princess, they insist..."

"Please, Evelyn," Chanelle interrupted, her tone firm yet laced with a hint of sadness. "I prefer to have my breakfast here today."

With a subtle nod, Evelyn acknowledged Chanelle's wish and left her alone in the room.

Alone in the quiet chamber, Chanelle approached the ornate table where breakfast was meticulously arranged. She picked at her food, the taste bland in her mouth as she stared out of the window, lost in her thoughts.

As Chanelle sat in the quiet room, picking at her breakfast, there was a soft knock on the door. Evelyn entered cautiously, holding a tray with freshly prepared food.

"I thought you might change your mind," Evelyn said with a small smile, placing the tray on the table. "Breakfast, Your Highness."

"Thank you, Evelyn," Chanelle murmured, offering a faint smile in return.

Evelyn hesitated for a moment, curiosity evident in her eyes. "Princess, forgive me for intruding, but... do you know anything about why Mr. Jasper was sentenced to death?"

Chanelle paused, her fork hovering over her plate, weighing her words carefully. After a moment's silence, she decided to confide in Evelyn. "Yes, I found something in the archives last night. The king accused him of being a spy, but Mr. Jasper vehemently denied it. He professed loyalty, yet the evidence against him was damning. It was an intercepted correspondence with a neighboring kingdom."

Evelyn's eyes widened in surprise. "How did you find out?"

Chanelle leaned closer, her voice barely above a whisper. "I went digging. I needed to know the truth, Evelyn. There's more to it than what the court believes."

Evelyn's brow furrowed in concern. "Should you be meddling in such matters, Your Highness?"

Chanelle sighed softly. "Perhaps not, but there's a pattern to these accusations. I sense something amiss within these palace walls."

Evelyn nodded slowly, realizing the gravity of Chanelle's words. "What will you do now?"

Chanelle's gaze turned resolute. "I'll continue my investigation. There's more to uncover, and I won't rest until I find the truth, even if it means facing the consequences."

Evelyn's expression flickered between worry and admiration. "Be careful, Princess. Not everything hidden should be unveiled."

Chanelle nodded, acknowledging Evelyn's concern. "Thank you, Evelyn. I'll tread carefully."

With a small nod, Evelyn retreated from the room, leaving Chanelle to contemplate the tangled web of secrets that surrounded the palace.
