Chapter 8 - The Grim Reaper?

The text says, "Hello, I'm Jennifer Lee from the O/I psych. Department."

The following moment creates the same feeling as when you are doing your business and you're interrupted by your parents thinking that you are doing witchcraft in the restroom.

The next text displays, "I've noticed your absence in the office due to health issues. I hope you recover soon. While we're at it, I want to inform you that I've recorded today's meeting so you can have access to the materials. You may watch it when you have spare time. Regards.

Wrinkles form on his forehead as he raises his brow, he can't help but feel intrigued witnessing this moment. A feminine voice is heard as he plays the video

"Is it on? Okay great. Let's start now." the lady struts towards the board.

She looked as if she'd say "open na noor" any moment now by the way she was vacuuming herself in the camera.

He can't help but be distracted by her dressing. A grey suit like a cloud blocking the sun.

[God knows if it's her demeanor or her dressing that's distracting me.]

Jennifer continues to present her ideas. A tiny notebook could be noticed in her hand as she occasionally glanced at it. All the youth and passion seemed to be squeezed into her demeanor.

Han Gyeol seemed to be listening to her attentively. Eventually, he moves to the next arc. Noticing the rick roll on her presentation he's caught completely off guard. Loud sounds of chuckling could be heard as he noticed footsteps near his room.

[Girl- I have no idea whether to laugh or cry. Can't even escape it here.]

Upon entering, his father says, "Hmm… someone seems to be completely losing it today. What's so funny?". Wiping a tear from his eye, he says out of amusement, "I almost peed myself, Oh God… have you have to this!"

A bunny sticker pops up with the text, "You've got this!".

[The more I talk her the more surpised I am. Who knew she liked fluffy little creatures!]

Jennifer was the type who could easily break bones. Maybe there are more layers to her personality. A corner of his lips perks up and he narrows his eyes.

[A bunny? From her out of all people?]

His father sits baffles. His eyes shooting open for a second, immediately masked by a frown. Upon playing the video, The father plasters a plain expression on his face as his well-aged gamete glances at him in anticipation.

The silence breaks as the room fills with his father's laughter. To make matters worse, it's the fatherly humor that makes him hysterical. He replays the part where a female employee arrives late, apologizing. Instead of lashing out, Jennifer sighs, "Now what should I name you?"

"Uh…excuse me?" the employee utters".

"A tardigrade. Late. Tardy. But still surviving in harsh environments." Jennifer purses her lips, hiding her smile from leaking.

[Why was that so bad yet so good?]

Woo Bin's gaze travels towards his well-cooked fetus as he wipes a tear caused by the previous joyous moment.

"How do you feel about working in the company so far?" he inquires.

"It's all right so far. I think I'd need some more time before judging it properly." Han Gyeol rubs the back of his head.

"Fair enough. What about your co-workers?"

"I don't know about others but Ms. Jennifer seems decent." A smile graces his lips.

"Ah right… just don't get on her nerves. She might seem composed but she's a ticking time bomb."

Han Gyeol visualizes Jennifer as a time bomb. Carrying a tint of red on her entire face.

"Han… Han are you still here with us?" his father pokes his arm.

The voice pulls Han Gyeol out of his head.

"Yes, father?"

"Good luck with everything!" The father forms a thumb ups with a spark in his eyes."

[The next day]

The song of turning pages harmonizes with the tranquility. Like a swan in the lake. Like the rejoice of the summer break. Jennifer sits there, looking through documents.

[What a beautiful, silent day.]

Little does she know, it's the calm before the storm…no. A whole cloud of diarrhea.

The phone's ringing could be heard, startling Jennifer. Her gaze reflects her murderous intent on the telephone.

[That startled me! What the hell?]

She takes a deep breath as she picks up the unwelcome call.

"Hello. How may I help you? Excuse me!? Yes, I'll be there." Her eyes pop out, her ears perking up.

Footsteps could be heard traveling out of her office as she catwalks her way ahead.

Distant bickering could be heard as she walked towards the infamous marketing team , Team A.

"Gosh, youth these days have no tact at all. It's not that hard." The middle aged man scoffs.

"Mr. Hong I'm done with your nonsense! I'm not your assistant!" the young man scowls as he shouts.

The rest of the team members witness this in horror while some of them see it as a source of entertainment. Just like the toxic mother-in-laws in Pakistani dramas.

Han Gyeol gives both of them side glances, sitting in the corner.

[It's 10 in the morning...get help.]

Familiar fast-paced footsteps are heard across the room. Some hushed voices say, "Grim Reaper!"

The horror dripping from their faces.

"The Grim Reaper's here !" "Shh!"

These murmurs spark Han Gyeol's curiosity and he asks his co-workers, "Who's the Grim Reaper and what is the reason behind this name?".

"You'll see." The co-worker replies.

A feminine voice is heard sternly, "Back off. Right now."

"Ms. Lee?" His eyes squint.

"Mr. Hong and Mr. Cha, follow me to my office." She exhales, tapping her foot.

Despite the calmness of the tone, those brown eyes alone could plot arson.

The two of them continue to quarrel. Suddenly, they feel a heavy presence behind them.

"Is she going to break their ba- I mean bones?" Han Gyeol asks his co-worker in amusement, his face gleaming.

The corners of his mouth turn upwards as he wonders, "So she's the grim reaper… this is going to be entertaining."

"I said follow me to my office. I hope I don't have to repeat myself." She shoots arrows from her gaze.

Despite her 5'4 frame, her voice flaunts authority and elegance. She may seem small but her fiery gaze could wreck havoc.

Eventually, the quarrel quiets down. Replaced by the fear of uncertainty. Atmosphere tense, chill-inducing. Mr. Cha and Mr. Hong follow her as directed. They could feel their knees tremble.

"Take a seat"

A slight creaking could be heard.

"Mr. Hong… I've been informed that you've been pushing your work on your juniors. Is that true?" She rubs a pen on her forehead

"Ms. Lee it's just that they take things too seriously-" Mr. Hong waves his hand in nonchalance.

"I don't remember asking that. I asked if it's true that you've tried to exploit your junior.".

He hangs his head downwards, feeling a pang of guilt.

Her jaw merges, letting a sigh out, "You're almost 35 Mr. Hong. I don't expect such unprofessional behavior again in the future".

[Ah yes...a perfect example that age doesn't equal maturity.]

"And Mr. Cha, I truly understand your feelings and frustration and they are justified but we can't use violence. Can we?" her tone switches to softens while she addresses him.

"Please contact the HR department if you face such a situation in the future."

"Yes, I understand. My apologies for the disruption." Mr. Cha nods and smiles apologetically.

"Although I'm letting this go this time, I'll inform you that you might face a strike after 3 warnings. And this is one of them."

"My apologies Ms. Lee." Mr. Hong being unable to meet her gaze.

"I think the one who deserves an apology is Mr. Cha," she shifts in her chair to lean on the desk.

A clacking of glass was heard. It was nothing else but the shattering of Mr. Hong's egoistic and prideful enclosure. He had no other choice but to apologize to his victim.

A voice echoes through the room, "You may take your leave now."

They both walk towards their cubicle Mr. Cha can sense the malicious glances towards him. A smug expression appears on his face. He takes his seat next to Han Gyeol.

"What happened in there?" he asks out of curiosity.

Mr. Cha says, "Whoa I thought hell would break loose but she's quite composed."

He pauses, "Ah and one more thing, she asked me to call you to her office." He reaches out for the mouse.

Han Gyeol choked on the air and wondered if it was because of 'that' incident.
