Chapter 1 - 1. Damien Barrow

Born and bred in Lasido city, Damien Barrow lived a life of optimism. His dad was a lawyer who taught him that no one was above the law. That those who broke it got punished sooner or later.

His mom died in childbirth so it was just him and his father. He was taught his father's ideals on the viewpoint of justice making him a serious and straightforward person.

He aspired to be a lawyer like his dad so he could follow in his footsteps and make him proud while bringing justice to society.

Damien was considered a genius by many, having aced all his exams, good at sports, tall for his age, built from working out, and being a devilishly handsome kid with white hair that boosted his attractiveness which made many flock towards him.

Even with all these qualities he had a major flaw, he was as lazy as lazy could get. He only did something if it was totally necessary, never went the extra mile, and dodged any and everything that caused him to think too much.

This affected his social life as he considered going to parties, hanging out with people, and even dating girls a chore. Rejecting party invites and turning down love confessions, basically ghosting everyone.

He was always found sleeping, buried in story books and comics, watching anime, movies or playing video games and never doing anything of much action giving him a known reputation for being too dull a person.

His dad constantly nagged him for it telling him he had the potential to reach for the stars but would settle for stairs. He was like a "Koenigsegg" that settled at a scooter's speed.

Later on in his life at the age of sixteen, he was forced to take things seriously and shed his old lifestyle after his dad died. He was killed by the son of the Smiths, one of the biggest business families in the city.

The boy was on his way back from a party with his friends and was speeding to impress the ladies he picked up. Deciding to ignore red lights and traffic signs.

His intoxication and adrenaline rush coupled with the encouragement of his friends made him move at high speed even while turning into a corner.

Henry had just left his office and decided to grab dinner at his most frequented restaurant bringing Damiens's favourite food in the world: slow-grilled chicken. Hoping to see his lazy son move like a living person even if it was for food.

He reached the traffic light waiting for the pedestrian light to turn green before using the zebra crossing. Maintaining vigilance he still checked for oncoming cars, and seeing the coast was clear he decided to cross.

At the last moment when he was right in the world middle of the road, he noticed an oncoming car moving way too fast for him to leap away. His last thoughts were him not being able to have a battle of wits in the courtroom with his son or be there as he became a man. He muttered "Goodbye son" as his final words.

The car ran into him at a hundred kilometers per hour, killing him instantly. Sending flying through the air and slamming back down on the coal tar with a sickening squelch.

People gathered around and began to call 911 and some videos the scene while others screamed hysterically. All staring at the mangled flesh and blood of what was once a person.

Adam and his friends had stopped some four meters away as they realized what had happened. The girls with him began to scream as his friends panicked claiming that they would go to Juve. The fear started spreading as they all let their mind roam while screaming and panicking.

Adam yelled that they'd all shut up as he could handle it. He got out of his car running to the scene ignoring his friend's questions and asking him where he was going.

He approached the corpse of Henry Barrow as people began to notice him and yell in anger and outrage at his actions and carelessness as Mr. Barrow was a known person in the city.

Adam being ready for this type began to conjure up a story on the spot about how Mr. Barrow crossed at the wrong time and he wasn't supposed to be on the road. Summing it all up the city's inability to make traffic rules obvious to drivers.

The police arrived and arrested him and his friends who later got bailed and taken home

Damien was at home ready for dinner when he turned on the TV and saw the news broadcasting a man who got killed outside Hearty's restaurant by an overspeeding vehicle. Fear gripped his heart as he watched praying his thoughts wouldn't come to pass.

The news reporter started to describe him, stating different body features as the final nail in the coffin was her saying to the camera "The man has further identified to be Mr Damien Barrow".

Fear, confusion, anger, denial all slammed into Damien's chest like a sledgehammer. He got up and flung open his door to see a police car stopping outside his house as two officers stepped down. Noticing him their eyes were saddled with apprehension and sorrow as they could only stare at him in silence.

Damien took off in a run as the officers called after him. He began running with all his strength proving why he was a track gold medalist every year. He ignored all cars running across the road, using all known shortcuts, and leaped over everything in his way.

Reached through the crowd pushing and shoving people all the while yelling for his father, with the faintest hope that he'd answer. Only to get through and see a bloody mix of what was once his father.

He hugged his father's corpse as he began crying and wailing, getting blood all over his body and clothes. Paramedics came to pull him away as they wanted to clear the scene and send the body to the morgue.

Damien held the body crying until the police chief walked up to him and convinced him to let go. The chief gently pried his hands on his dad's corpse and took Damien to his car to sit. A police officer came up to him and gave him a bag containing his dad's things.

He was then taken to the station where he was told to fill in information about his dad and asked anyone could come pick him. His dad's sister walked into the station crying and hugged him, filling out a form and taking him to leave. The police chief then said to Damien "don't worry boy justice will be served".

Adam got away with his crime as the family lawyer Mr. Edgar started he was a minor and was drugged at his party due to the results of the blood work done on him. A statement signed by the commissioners of transportation, stating that there was a fault with the traffic lights making them out of sync and causing them to make Mr. Barrow and Adam be on the road at the same time

Adam was later given four months of community service which he showed up for and did nothing since no one was dumb enough to make him.

Everyone who tried got into one bad situation or another which was a silent warning to others. Adam was all over his social media platforms, laughing off the sentence and how he was getting any actual punishment.

Damien was furious and could only grit his teeth and watch Adam go Scott free. He swore to get justice for his dad the right way and began putting his all into his studies while working a few jobs to support bills for his aunt. His dad's will was read to him as he inherited his car, the house, and a bit of money saved up for college.

He moved in with his dad's sister after he got his house sold. He began to work online doing web design photo editing and trading to save up for his tuition fees while working jobs on the side. His father's death was a wake-up call as he lost all traces of unseriousness and laziness as they became things of the past. Pursuing his only goal, to get justice for his father.

Seven years later he emerged from university as a first-class master in law, taking on lawyers who were known old monsters in law and winning them in court. He became known as the law devil, a vicious, dogged, sharp-witted man with a silver tongue who could turn the worst cases around and win. With the aura of confidence and a face that knew no smiles, he could with utmost confidence convince a rock it was bread.

His ability to win cases made him a few friends but lots of enemies. Enemies who were looking for the chance to get him at the worst time. The chance later showed itself through a woman, a woman he trusted.
