CHAPTER 3
While at the hospital, Anita forgot like 30% of her worries. At first,it wasn't fun;the sight of blood, the awful odor, the screams of most patients, all these were really irritating to Anita. It gave her goosebumps.
At times, she would want to have a rethink about studying Medicine which is her dream course but giving up was even a bigger risk.
She gradually got used to the medical center and the people there within. George was literally in pain. His whole body ached him more especially, his left leg. He couldn't even stand on his own and wouldn't miss the slightest opportunity to vent his frustration on Anita. It was really hard for Anita to stay with her father. Staying with him was like dining with the devil.
But nonetheless, Anita decided to stay happy with the few friends she had met at the hospital. Most patients were crazy indeed and this made her laugh her heart out at the slightest funny scene.
The hospital was becoming fun for Anita.
George was healing gradually after two months of admission to the hospital.
He was getting ready to be discharged. Anita and her father finally got discharged on a Saturday morning.
This was a bit of relief for George,at least,he was now ablee e to walk around with his legs without anyone's help or feeling any pains on his legs.
They finally arrived at Ekwulumili street. George was given a warm welcome by his brother and his family. Unbelievably to Anita, her mom had already established a school structure for pupils. She was overwhelmed by this. Indeed, her mom was a super woman.
A determined woman with difference.
Uncle Charles started being unhappy lately;he was really spending too much on the needs of two families. It wasn't an easy task. Anita and her siblings started feeling uncomfortable while staying there as Uncle Charles' family began to murmur;we were invading their privacy.
Ella decided to give them a bit of space and respect their privacy as well. She gathered enough money to pay for a room and parlor apartment at Ego Lane .They shared the apartment with an old woman in her early 60's. Anita and her siblings still had to adapt to the new environment.
It was really tough doing that but they
still had to.
George had healed completely from the stitches he got after being operated upon.He was more of himself.
He had probably forgotten he had a family. He cared less about their welfare. He brought little or no money for his family's upkeep. Since he was placed on a diet as a diabetic patient,he spent his money only on his diet and clubbing with his friends.
Mrs Ella wasn't bothered about all of her husband's irritating attitude .She decided to care for the family without any complaints. She probably thought George only needed time and that maybe he was only stressed out as a result of workload but little did she know that he wasn't interested in her love or care . He only wanted to get quick money and fame in any possible way and he wouldn't hesitate to take away any form of distraction from his life for the sake of his pursuit.
He considered his own family the biggest distraction and therefore didn't hesitate to consider them meaningless in his life. Ella kept hoping that there would be a turn around soon but nothing was moving; everything seemed stagnant in her emotional status with George.
George found himself in the midst of a diabolic set of people that he referred to as friends. Friends whose beliefs was that everything u ever wanted was possible only through magic and diabolic charms and rituals. He probably became one of them.
He started living a diabolic life . Coming home really late at night without anyone noticing his footsteps.
This was absolutely creepy!
George never had a rethink about what he was about to do. He was about engaging himself in a diabolic affair;a deal with the devil. He was only desperate for wealth even though his family never pressed him to get the kind of money he wanted by hook or by crook. Ella, his wife, was content with what she had with George. She never disturbed him about getting more money for the family.
She did all of these because she still loved George deeply. Ella's love for him had probably blinded her. All she wished for was that George would return to his family and put heads together with her so they could plan things together and build something meaningful out of their lives all for the benefit and betterment of the family as a whole.
George was never interested in all these things Ella was thinking about. He was not going to listen to Ella. He only did whatever came to his mind and no human could change his decisions once he had made them.
Anita and her siblings only saw a beastly figure in their father because he never considered their feelings and opinions as his own children. He never listened to them .He never put them first in his daily plans in life. He was beastly indeed!.
George's undying quest for wealth made him act weird. Strange dreams by Ella and her children;all these were not making any sense to them and no one could tell what those nightmares meant. Strange noises,it was really unimaginable but unfortunately this was a reality they were facing and had to face. George had become demonic!.
Due to his demonic nature, the old woman they shared the flat with noticed the danger in the atmosphere .
She sensed darkness surrounding the whole apartment. She really had to make a move to save herself.
She reported the issue to Mr Raymond, the landlord of Ego Lane . He took the matter into his own hands and made investigations himself. When he was done with the whole investigation and had found the necessary information he needed to know, he went straight to George's apartment.
He gave a loud knock on the door. Ella went to see who was at the door . It was Mr Raymond. He requested to see George . He gave George 72 hrs to vacate the apartment and if it had to be more than a minute past the time he had given them,he would throw them out of the apartment himself.
Ella was now more than traumatized because the landlord couldn't give a reasonable reason why he gave them such quit notice within a short period of time
Maybe this was what fate had in store for them .
