"This isn't... about... her?" Dottie asked in disbelief. "But I... I've been exposed. I-I may be infected. That doesn't... bother you?"
Jack looked her in the eye. "I promise you that I'll treat you right."
He had made up his mind to stay by her side, in sickness and in health.
Tears blurred Dottie's eyes. "Give me the answer in a week's time. I don't want you to regret it."
Her biggest dream finally came true when it was least expected.
She was thrilled, but at the same time, she wanted to be fair to Jack. If she was HIV-positive, the last thing she would want is to marry him and be a burden.
But if she was negative, she would say yes a million times over.
"I know what I want. And I'm not gonna regret it," he said softly. "Now you make sure you take your meds. I'll come and see you every day."
She nodded, tears running down her face.
