Dottie didn't hesitate to go to Saint College the next day.
Determined to be more attentive in class, she bought a cup of coffee to refresh herself.
Upon entering the school, Dottie found that the air became exceptionally fresh, and her mood lightened. "It feels so good to be myself," she thought.
Yet the good mood didn't last, for she saw Wyonna getting out of Shane's black Cadillac.
The man inside the car seemed reluctant to let go of her hand, and the two had clung together for quite a while before Wyonna headed off.
The car, as well as its master, remained where it was. Shane followed Wyonna with his affectionate eyes until she disappeared.
Dottie was critically stung by the scene. Shane was supposed to be her fiance, but she disapproved of their marriage owing to his disease, and now she had to bear witness to her taken-away happiness.
