Wyonna grabbed his hand with all of her strength, "Shane, you said that you would never let go of my hand..."
"Honey, I don't want that either. But if I didn't do that, both of us would die." Shane gazed at her with all of his attention, trying to print her image deeply in his mind.
"You say that you will die with me. So will I!" Wyonna felt that his hand was getting less and less tight. Flustered, she leaned forward, trying to grasp his finger.
"But I won't let you." Gazing at her eyes, Shane mouthed the sentence word by word. Then he said, "Wyonna, look, there is a ship coming."
Wyonna looked in the direction he suggested. There was no ship. What she saw was only the waning moon, together with the rough sea.
The instant Wyonna shifted her attention, Shane forced her hands apart from his, letting himself drown at sea.
Feeling the wood was lighter in weight, Wyonna twisted her head.
