My mood changed drastically immediately after I saw that face. He still had those eyes I felt for; those beautiful dark brown eyes. But right now, as I look at him, all I see is hate and disgust.
We were at the dining table sitting opposite each other. The table was very long so he couldn't reach me. We served him some snacks but he did not eat anything. He just drank the wine. We were both silent. I wanted to give him a chance to speak but he didn't say anything. He just kept on looking at me like I was supposed to feel guilty or something.
"We are you here?"
"I came to see you." He told me.
"Why?" I asked. He is not that jobless to come here without reason.
"Hemera, what are you doing?"
"What do you mean?" I asked calmly. I didn't want to make a scene. This is not my house.
"Marrying Elpis? You only knew him yesterday."
"So?"
"What do you mean by so?"
"I have known you my entire life and in one moment you ruined everything."
"That was entirely different and you know it." He argued.
"Was it?" I questioned, "After courting for over ten years, you rejected me in front of everyone under the moon and made me look stupid." I wanted to rip his heart out, roast it, and feed it to his stupid brother but I needed to remain calm.
I saw a hit of guilt on his face but I didn't trust him anymore. He and his brother were snakes; snakes that needed to be killed.
"Hemera, I know you hate me but Elpis is not an option. He will just use you he tried to convince me.
"I think you should leave." I said and stood up, "And please, for your self-respect, don't come here again." I left the room.
I went straight to my room and locked to door. I didn't know I kept my cool in front of him. I took deep breaths. Tears ran down my cheeks. Memories of that day flashed through my head.
"I am going to kill you, Crane," I said to myself. I was angry, very angry and I didn't know how to show it. It was painful and too much to bear.
I heard a knock on the door and I cleaned my tears immediately. I couldn't be weak. I haven't even started yet. I opened the door and I saw a man. he looked like the younger version of Elpis but he had green eyes.
"May I come in?" he asked nicely but I knew he wasn't nice. There was anger in his tone. I opened the door for him.
"How may I help you," I asked.
"I am Kai Kane."
"Elpis' younger brother," I said under my breath. I was a little bit shocked.
"You did do your research. Nice to meet you. He told me.
"Is there something you need?" I asked. I wasn't in the mood to receive visitors.
"Yes, we need to talk."
"Okay, I am all ears." I sat down on the dressing chair.
"What do you want with my brother?" he asked.
I looked at him and honestly, I envied Elpis. He had someone that cared about him, someone that came to ask questions.
"Your brother and I are getting married," I answered. If this was going to work, I might as well start accepting it.
"But why my brother?" he asked.
Honestly, I admired his confidence. Not everyone has the guts to question an alpha, brother or not. Crane couldn't even dare. I could understand even though I couldn't relate. He is his brother after all. He is just looking out for him.
"Kai, I understand we just met and you have your doubts but I would like for you to keep an open mind and trust your brother's judgment. He chose me, not the other way around and I wouldn't do anything to hurt your brother, you, or your pack. you have my word." I tried to convince him. I didn't think it would work. He is not a moron or anything. I just wanted him to have a verbal assurance, we can work on actions later.
He looked at me, so much suspicion in his eyes. I didn't flinch. If I did, he would think something was wrong.
"What is your name?"
"Hemera." I bowed.
"Well, Hemera, I will be watching your every move. Let's see if you actually do what you say." He told me and left.
I didn't think much of it. I just went back to my reading. I have had enough drama for one day.
