He had vanished, leaving me alone with the baby. I rose from the bed, my steps slow as I made my way to the door, opening it with a gentle creak. Stepping out, the silence of the surroundings enveloped me.
Descending to the kitchen, I noticed Lexi was gone. Now, with only the baby in my care, I contemplated ending his existence. Retrieving a knife, I ascended the stairs, a sense of impending madness creeping over me.
Approaching Lexi's room, I stood before the closed door, my hand trembling on the knob. Slowly pushing it open, I peered inside to find the baby peacefully asleep.
As I moved closer, observing the tranquility of his slumber, I couldn't shake the feeling that he harbored a darkness within. Raising the knife, I gazed down at the innocent child.
"I'm sorry," I whispered. Just as I was about to bring the blade closer, the baby's eyes snapped open, a haunting shade of red.
