Chapter 9 - God Breathes Slowly

Kaddyr sat at his desk. Business was hectic these days. There was so much to do and very little time left to do it in. A mound of papers sat at either end of his desk. A weary look rested upon his face. He volunteered his help to Gaian. But, he wasn't sure if actively doing something like this would render the rules he and his brethren set void. It was just paperwork after all.

Suddenly, there was a shift in the air. It grew thick. Dread filled it. And, Kaddyr knew that it only meant one thing.

"Quit hiding, Yog." He called out to the nothingness in his office. "You can't hide the scent of death from me."

"Touchy, touchy." A melodic voice came from the void as a swirl of dust created a humanoid that shared the features of a spider. "I only came for a friendly little chat."

"I'm sure." Kaddyr responded. "What do you want?" He hadn't even bothered to stop reading through the papers he had on his desk. His tone, like his image was gruff. He could care less if Yog just left without saying anything.

Yog cleared his throat a little. "Like I said, I only came for a chat." He scuttled closer. "I have seen something very interesting as of late."

 "Where?"

 "In Haddock."

Kaddyr sighed. He still wasn't paying Yog Thalthos much attention. But, something he said piqued his interest. "Isn't that Nesbeth and Rammel's domain."

"It is no longer. They both have moved on." Yog said with a coo, sinister mirth dripping from the last word. "It had been vacant for some time now, until your son took domain there with a small band of refugees. But, that is of no consequence."

"Then, what is so interesting about what you have seen?"

Yog knew it was at this point that Kaddyr's interest was on him. "She has returned to Haddock."

Kaddyr let a smile grow across his face in the most sinister knowing fashion. "That is not all that she has done, oh Lord of the Shadows." His smile grew wider as Yog's expression of confusion stretched across his face.

"What do you mean?" He asked. His confusion reaching its peak. Yog's twitchiness reminded Kaddyr very much of a spider in every way. "I don't… No, she couldn't have done anything while I was there. She was too afraid. Too…"

"Did she call you by your name?"

"How did you…" This time frustration replaced confusion.

"I know a great deal, Yog." Kaddyr said calmly. "Now, begone."

And, Yog Thalthos disappeared into a puff of black smoke.
