Chapter 23 - True Self

Boring.

This word describes his entire childhood in his previous life.

Playing with other kids, caring for them, and developing into a decent boy.

Every day, he did it in this amazing institution known as an orphanage.

A house where everyone is his siblings and there is an education system up to the middle school level.

Everything changed when he did something wrong for the first time.

He was ten years old when he noticed a wallet on the ground.

He looks around before taking the wallet and putting it in his pocket.

A few minutes later, a man walks about the area, as if hunting for something.

His expression indicates that he is in difficulty, and his eyes cannot quit glancing about.

When the man noticed him, he asked whether he had seen any wallets around here.

Do you know what he answered?

"What is a wallet?"

As an orphan, no one thought he was educated, so the man scratched his head, knowing he couldn't get an answer from him.

He apologized and continued looking around.

Something is being birthed inside of him right now.

"It's exhilarated…"

This moment made him recognize his genuine self.

The man's look reflects guilt.

It delighted him to the point where he became addicted to it.

He began to lie day by day, eventually progressing to theft.

From toys to cash, he is improving every day.

No one can find what he hides unless he notifies an adult.

But one day he decided to steal some paper money.

He almost got caught, which made him even more enthusiastic, so he keeps doing it.

His earnings are increasing day by day.

He stole from his teachers, caregivers, and those who came to the orphanage to adopt a child.

Speaking of adoption, he is now fifteen years old, and the law specifies that children aged fifteen to sixteen can live independently if they have not yet been adopted by foster parents.

He had already finished from middle school, so he opted to live alone.

The government provided him the opportunity to participate in a scholarship program, and he barely passed the tests.

He was given a monthly income and a room in a dorm where he could live for the three years of high school.

The money he stole when he was younger is hidden in the orphanage's wooded area.

A day before leaving the orphanage, he digs it and tallies how much he finds.

Surprised by his labor, he discovered that he had stolen a million dollars in just five years.

He only cares about the money since it gives him an exhilarating feeling when he steals it from others, therefore his shocked expression could not be removed.

However, he sighs in disappointment as he realizes that stealing is wrong.

He knew stealing was bad when he was younger, but he understands it now.

In other words, his conscience had been created, and he chose to halt his bad activities and confront his new life with a fresh perspective.

Still, if his younger self discovered that he had grown up to be a boring man that he did not want to be, he may become enraged.

Despite this, he believed that maturity was simply the way of life.

No one can stop you unless you refuse or desire it.

He went on to become a normal high school student at a private academy.

His first year goes quite well.

Unfortunately, the first day of his second year didn't go well.

His group of pals decided to go to the karaoke bar, and they got playful on the way, causing his companion to crash with a woman pushing a baby stroller.

The woman falls, causing the stroller to push into the middle of the road.

*Honk!

A truck was about to hit the stroller, and the woman and his pals acted quickly to save the infant.

Meanwhile, he didn't move at all; why would he save that baby?

Does he recognize the mom or the baby?

No, correct?

Unfortunately, my boss—wait a minute; my smartphone is vibrating.

*Tut

[Fast forward ->]

Yes, sir, I will come soon.

Yes…

Uhum…

Thank you.

*Tut.

Hmmm…

Oh! I apologize for the inconvenience.

Hello again, 210 desu wa!

My boss contacted me, so I'll let 212 handle the rest.

So, 212, you may now continue.

Gah! I regret passing by!

Anyway, it's my job, so I may as well do my best.

Additionally, overtime money is beneficial so…

Anyway! Moshi Moshi, I'm 212, and I'll be the world's narrator starting now.

Where did she stop before...?

Hmmm…

Okay!

Does he recognize the mom or the baby?

No, correct?

However, his typical thoughts will lead to his death.

The truck driver was able to steer to the left to escape the individuals attempting to save the baby.

Unfortunately, the driver gives up a life to save others.

And the life that was sacrificed came from him, who did not try to save the baby.

"Is anything wrong?"

When Alicia realized he wasn't hearing her anymore, she asked if there was something wrong with him.

Returning from his thoughts, Alex said, "No, nothing. I simply remembered something minor. Anyway, let us continue our date."

He feigned a smile, but his sister didn't notice and simply believed what he said, so she smiled back and continued their "sibling" date.

They go to the amusement zone and play at a gaming stall.

"Five copper coins for two balls."

The man wearing an eye patch spoke.

Alex said, "Two tries" as he formed a peace sign with his fingers and tossed a silver coin.

The man easily catches the silver coin and converts it into four balls in a basket.

"Give me that!"

Alicia points at a large teddy bear.

He wanted to tell her that if she wanted, she could accomplish it with no difficulty because she is powerful despite her feminine form, but he decided not to say anything because she could believe he thought of her as a gorilla.

He is, but he remembered that being oblivious isn't always a good thing, especially while on a date with a girl, even if they're siblings.

Anyway, he exercises every day, so he is confident that he can—

"Congratulation!"

The eye patch man handed him a notebook.

"…"

For some reason, he feels a chill on his neck.

He's not sure why, but he feels that if he didn't give that teddy bear to his sister, something horrible could happen to him.
