Chapter 2 - Chapter Two: Escape

The air crackled with energy as the woman and the man engaged in a ferocious display of magical prowess.

The woman, nimble and agile, dodged the fiery onslaught with a series of maneuvers. Her movements were like a dance, evading the attacks of her enemy with swift and precise movement. The man who had all his fireballs extinguished screamed in rage as he created larger ones. In response, she conjured gusts of wind, attempting to redirect the fireballs back towards the man who had unleashed them.

However, the man, was also quite strong. He manipulated the flames with precision, guiding them through the air like living beings. A fiery serpent twisted and turned, homing in on the woman with relentless determination. She countered with a barrier of shimmering light, deflecting the serpent and sending it spiraling into the ground.

Undeterred, the man shifted tactics. He extended his hand, and the very ground beneath them trembled. Lava bursts through the ground and surged upwards, forming molten tendrils that sought to ensnare the woman. Swiftly, she flew higher, soaring above the danger and surveying the battlefield from her elevated vantage point.

The man's eyes glowed with an intensity that spoke of both desperation and determination. With a whispered incantation, he summoned spectral illusions that mirrored his every move. The illusions moved around the woman, making it challenging for her to distinguish the real threat from the decoys.

But the red eyed woman was a experienced battle hardened woman. She closed her eyes, relying on her heightened senses to discern reality from illusion. Focusing her energy, she unleashed a burst of light that dispelled the spectral mirage, leaving the man exposed.

Seizing the opportunity, she descended with rapid speed, landing gracefully and launching a barrage of spiky energy projectiles.

The man, now on the defensive, erected a shimmering shield of arcane energy. The projectiles collided with the barrier, creating a dazzling display of lights that illuminated the night sky. However, very soon, the woman sensed a vulnerability in the shield, a tiny fracture created from the onslaught of barrages on a single point that hinted at its impending collapse.

With a burst of speed, she closed the distance, her right hand aglow with a radiant aura. The man strained to reinforce his weakening shield, but it crumbled under the relentless assault. The woman's magic enveloped him, binding him in ethereal chains to the groud that sapped his strength.

As the battle reached its climax, the woman landed on the hard surface of the snowy mountain her hand now glowing with a fierce white light that seemed almost intangible.

"I thought they'd send more" she said as she raised her glowing hand planning to kill the man and end the battle.

A soft grin appearing on the face of the man "Oh they sent enough ".

She was about to win, but then… behind her a sword materialized from the shadows along with a man who came out of it. His features were completely hidden with a dark cloack covering him, and at the back of that cloack was the same symbol as that of the sleeveless man. A radiant sun being pierced by a sword.

The distance between her body and the sword was too close so before she could even think of escaping *Pierce* the sword pierced her back bursting out through her chest.

* * * * * * * * * * * * *

Back at the battle between Rin's mother and the man on a sleeveless vest a fireball had managed to get past his mother and that fireball was coming at full force on Rin now.

'Is this the spell she cast on me' Rin thought as he ran as fast as his little legs could carry his body, however, the attack was infinitely faster than him.

At the moment the fireball was about to hit him though, a gust of wind pushed him to the sides barely dodging the attack, which crashed on the ground of the plain fields, exploded, destroyed the ground and released a shockwave one too strong for Rin as he flew and crashed on the ground making his already bad condition worse.

Rin staggered to his feet, his body aching from the impact of the scattered stones. 'I'm alive'. This just confirmed his suspicion. Now he knew what spell his mother had cast on him. It was physical enhancement and maybe immunity to elemental attacks. How he knew of this was because he was alive. He was sure if it was his usual self then he would've died from that mere attack. If it was before the child was sure that he would have died from the mere shockwave released by the fireball.

As he stood amidst the settling dust, his eyes glowed with newfound determination. But that determination wavered as he caught a glimpse of two more fireballs both aimed at him.

Drawing upon the strength he felt coursing through his veins, Rin dashed towards the peak of the hill he was on, luckily his mother had bought him enough time to reach the highest hill, however, not enough time to reach the peak.

Even though he was blessed with a physical enhancement spell right now, he still couldn't compare to the speed of the incoming attacks as what happened the first time repeated itself.

"H… how did.. it all come to this"

Far back into the snowy mountains, the man on a sleeveless vest was staring at Rin's direction as he felt something wasn't right. Rin's mother was on the ground staring at the sky above with a sword placed at her neck.

The new person on the battlefield holding the sword still completely shrouded in darkness.

Seeing Rin finally reaching the hilltop the subtle glow that surrounded him suddenly intensified. The hilltop, now bathed in the warm embrace of the morning sunlight, seemed to hold a mystic power that intensified the glow enveloping Rin.

The sleeveless man squinted against the radiant light, his scowl deepening as he realized the significance of the unfolding events. Knowing that he was too late and couldn't catch up to the kid even if he wanted to, however his subordinate might have a chance.

Looking in the direction of Rin a shadow that resembled the cloacked man manifested at the back of Rin, his sword about to do the same thing it did to the child's mother. However, it was too late.

As the light reached its zenith, a blinding white brilliance consumed Rin entirely, his silhouette etched against the luminescent backdrop.

A sense of frustration gripped the sleeveless man. He had underestimated the spell cast on the boy by his mother. Turning to face the said woman on the ground, he lifted her off the ground by her hair " where did you send him to?" He barked

Trying to chuckle but entering into a coughing fit, blood rolled down her mouth as she smiled. Seeing this, the sleeveless man threw her to the sides knowing that he wouldn't get any answer to his question.

Looking at the man still shrouded in darkness "bind her and bring her, she would be of good use to us."
