Chapter 168 - Chapter 168: Farewells and Futures (Part One)

"What? Brother Zhang Fan, you're leaving?" After returning to the city of Philiano and partaking in grand celebration ceremonies, Zhang Fan approached Princess Misiore the following morning to bid farewell. Having spent nearly half a month in this world, he had forged numerous friendships and acquired a wealth of knowledge. Yet, he knew his departure was inevitable.

Zhang Fan felt a deep attachment to this realm, which paradoxically compelled him to leave. He feared growing too fond of this place to ever consider leaving, leaving the girls from other worlds in a bind. Should he bring them all here?

The thought was tempting, but then what? Settle for a mundane life here forever? Abandon his quest for godhood as if it were but a dream? No. Zhang Fan didn't see staying in Filorende as beneficial. His journey was far from over; he yearned to explore more, refusing to confine himself to one world. His strength needed to continue growing.

"Yes, Misiore. But don't worry, I'll come back to see you. I've mastered the method to travel between worlds and can visit anytime. If you ever need me, just summon me. Your Star Singing is powerful, after all." Despite Misiore's visible distress, Zhang Fan could only offer a comforting pat on her head.

The completion of the main quest allowed him the freedom to return at will, a decision purely up to him. The promise of future reunions eased his resolve to depart, understanding that a swift return was always a possibility.

"Really? You'll come back to see me soon?" Misiore calmed down upon hearing Zhang Fan's assurance. His initial announcement of departure had deeply saddened her, not understanding why her heart ached so. Yet, she knew she didn't want him to leave, desiring to be by her hero's side forever.

But Misiore understood that Zhang Fan had his own life, friends, and family. His return was inevitable, but she wished it wouldn't be too soon.

Now, knowing Zhang Fan had a way to traverse between worlds, she took solace in the fact that they could meet anytime. With this consolation, she had little else to say.

"Of course. I couldn't possibly leave you alone, could I?"

Thus, the news of Zhang Fan's impending departure spread throughout Biscody and even reached Garette. Having spent significant time together, a deep bond of friendship and affection had formed amongst them, making farewells painfully difficult.

Zhang Fan's departure was set for three days later. During this time, he met with many friends and expressed his heartfelt goodbyes. Reflecting on the joyous moments shared, he felt a profound sense of happiness...

"Have you decided to leave?" In Darkeion's cottage, Zhang Fan and Darkeion sat facing each other, enjoying tea brewed by Yu Jikazhe, reveling in the serene moment.

"Yes, it's time to leave." Savoring the tea and admiring the view outside the window, Zhang Fan felt a bittersweet tranquility knowing his departure was near.

"Then, let's spar with swords before you go." Without insisting he stay, Darkeion stood up, drew his sword, and suggested a friendly duel. Understanding the gesture, Zhang Fan transformed his weapon into a longsword, and they moved outside to practice.

Their silent agreement led to a synchronized exchange of blows, more a collaborative dance than a duel. The elegance of their moves belied the deadly precision behind each strike, showcasing the mastery of Darkeion's swordsmanship, the Sword Technique of Demon Hunting.

Despite the short time spent together, Zhang Fan felt a profound connection with Darkeion, akin to family. Their bond was inexplicable but deeply felt, making the farewell even more poignant.

After the practice, Darkeion affectionately touched Zhang Fan's cheek, then turned away with a bittersweet smile, acknowledging their parting with a nod.

"Will you return?" Yu Jikazhe, holding the small land god, looked forlorn. The reality of Zhang Fan's departure was hard to accept. Yesterday, they fought side by side; today, they faced goodbye.

"Of course, I promise I'll return," Zhang Fan assured, aware of the budding feelings between them but choosing to focus on the future. A reunion was certain, and when it came, he would be ready to face everything openly.

"You're here, hero!" The young knights greeted Zhang Fan energetically at the practice field. His popularity among them, and even among the lady knights, was undeniable.

"Hmph, what brings you here again?" Aikrele, ever the tsundere, couldn't hide her mixed feelings about Zhang Fan's departure.

"Of course, it's for a practice duel." Zhang Fan was accustomed to Aikrele's demeanor. After greeting everyone, he picked up a spear and challenged Aikrele, ready for one last friendly match before his departure.
